Tyler sent in an early morning tip about great pricing on the Dewalt DWP611 variable speed compact router. Thanks, Tyler!
I’ve been looking at this router for months (sitting in my Amazon cart). It’s usually in the $129-139 price range. The price just dropped to $115 AND there is a $25 off $100 for select Dewalt tools (including this one). I finally pulled the trigger!

$116 is a good price, $91 is even better! The instant $25 off $100+ Dewalt discount is applied at checkout. I checked around, and the next-lowest price I could find was $128, and as Tyler saw, others have it for $139.
Price: $91 after coupon ($116 – $25)

The deal is for the router with adjustable-depth fixed base. If you want the plunge base too, it’s currently ~$84 and also eligible for $25 off $100+ savings. If you don’t want to bother with padding a separate order over $100, the 2-base kit is ~$176 and also eligible for $25 off $100 savings.

The 2 base kit is the same price at Home Depot – and I think they have the $25 off deal online too,
If the deal looked better by buying the router with fixed base separately, from the plunge base – you might be able to pad out the plunge base order with some of the accessories. These include dust extraction adapters DNP615 and DNP616, a round sub-base DNP613, edge guides DNP618 or DW6913, centering bit DNP617. I’m not sure which of any of these come with the kit or bare router as standard equipment. The kit also used to come packed in a bag : PN 629053-00 – not sure if that is still the case.
This is a well regarded router in the compact class

Pricing aside, how does this compare with the Bosch ?

If I wanted to buy a Colt – I’d wait on the new version to be released – that would then have comparable HP (1.25) specs. The current Colt is 1HP. If you are just doing trimming – my thought is that the added HP is not really needed. The Colt can be had with several different bases that are aimed at laminate trimming. Such bases are not available fro the Dewalt. We always found the Colt a bit finicky on depth adjustment – perhaps the new one will be better. The Dewalt’s depth adjustment is better than the current Colt.
In this class – there are also some cordless trim routers to look at from Ryobi, Ridgid and Makita. The Makita also comes in a kit with plunge and fixed bases.

I should have said – that I’d wait on the new Colt’s release – because then the old Colt will then probably drop in price – and you might then decide which to buy.

I had the Colt for some time and then picked up one of the DeWalts when it came up on Amazon Warehouse at a great price (it was an unused return). I find the Colt to be easier to balance for edge work, but it is certainly under powered and the height adjustment is terrible. The Dewalt is a more substantial router and has one of the best height adjustments around. If I was buying again then I would certainly take the DeWalt over the current Colt model.

Re edge work – I think that I mentioned in a prior post they you can make an extended base for either the Colt or Dewalt – with an outboard auxiliary handle (or 2) to give you as larger more stable footprint. If you prefer for can also buy bases from places like Woodhaven.

Snagged the router! I already have a 2 base kit, but it’ll be nice to have a second on hand, I think this is by far the best compact/trim router on the market, just waiting for a flexvolt or cordless version!

Not sure how this compares but I’ve read good things about the Makita. The RT0701CX3 kit is for $139.00 over at Amazon and it qualifies for a $25 off coupon. So for $114 + tax you get a fixed base, a plunge base and edge guide. Same price over at HD but no coupon on it.

That’s quite a deal.
Amazon also has the complete kit with plunge, tilt and offset bases – plus dust collection accessories, and edge guides for $208.49 – minus the $25 Makita promotion.

I have the DW611 kit with the plunge base. It’s my most used router. It can handle easily quite a few jobs that a regular trim router would not. Also, it has good dust collection which is always one of my criteria. The optional dust attachment is easy to attach and remove, and reasonably priced. I use it for dados, cutting circles, making holes for shelf pins, etc. Nice, light speedy. I do recommend the plunge base since it makes it much more versatile.
