Dewalt sure loves sticking those plastic chuck drills everywhere, and kits like this sure don’t help explain their befuddling product lines.

You’re talking about the DCD777 drill? How can you tell if a tool is old, or if the chuck is plastic? Do you just have to remember the model numbers?

Metal chucks tend to be fine knurling. The plastic chucks have the raised/lowered areas to create grip.
Another strike against that drill: no light.

Agreed, it’s strange that they would bundle a combination of the latest and greatest batteries & recip saw with an older drill and impact driver. I’d think someone who wanted the latest or the higher performing tools would likely want that for their drill and impact driver too….and if the goal is to instead have a kit compete on price why not lower the price even farther by using an older model recip saw and batteries? I find the kits which mix late-model or high end tools with the older and lower-end ones puzzling.

I think that’s a good impact driver too though. The drill meh, light meh, batteries meh (although I like the 2’s for their weight), but that’s the newest brushless impact with their newest compact recip saw!
I almost bought the dcf840 because it has great specs (if not the best specs considering impacts per min!), but I was able to revive my 887 to like new performance and am very happy with that one.
