Discussion

Okay, so we have an Atomic kit that looks like be sold at Home Depot and online dealers, XR kits that will likely be available at all or most Dewalt dealers, and a non-Atomic and non-XR brushless kit that I expect will also be available at Lowe’s.

Dewalt upgraded the kits, with the brushless and Atomic cordless power tool combos now featuring one or two 5Ah batteries, and the XR kits featuring XR PowerStack or PowerPack batteries.

The prices seem a bit high compared to Dewalt’s current offerings. However, they give you hammer drills for each, and their modern and in some cases premium impact drivers.

These new combos are all a step up from the ones we discussed in an overview last year – Dewalt Cordless Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit Deals Compared.

Dewalt now has at least 8 different 20V Max compact cordless drill and impact driver combo kits, plus additional kits with different generations of their premium 3-speed hammer drill. It’s good to have options.

It’s nice that they’re updating kits with more modern battery options. I just hope that they actually phase out older versions instead of continuing to sell them as they usually seem to do with so many of their older tools.

I doubt they’ll phase out the older kits; these are all much more expensive, even if the launch prices aren’t accurate.

Both have the DCD1007, DCF845 and Powerpack batteries, two 4ah or one 4ah and one 8ah.

Thank you. I’ve been waiting for the 1000 series to be in a combo. Now just to see it kitted with the hydraulic impact.

All of my guys are foaming at the mouth for the hydraulic impact driver. I actually scrolled the new kits hoping to see an 870 in there, but no stopped at 860 as usual.

Dewalt’s dizzying array of drill/driver bundles and SKUs don’t make sense to me as an educated consumer/tool enthusiast (if I’m buying, I’m doing research, so the fewer mid-grade bundles the better) but might make a lot of sense for maintaining market positioning.

The ancient drill on Amazon is there to hook the consumer who goes by popularity and reviews: “10,000 sold this month? They can’t all be wrong!”

Then each of these bundles is there for the impulse buyers who might have legacy experience: “Bobby’s getting his first apartment, we should get him some tools. What’s current? I don’t know. I know my/my dad’s/my aunt’s old NiCad Dewalt stuff was good. Let’s head to the big box store and see if they have something reasonably priced.”

It makes a lot of sense to me from a corporate to retail perspective, rather than brand to end user.

Home Depot and Lowe’s both get exclusives, and then there are different XR options for pro users who want uncompromised tools.

Other brands make changes on occasion, e.g. https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/makita-xgt-cordless-power-tool-combo-kit-gt201sm-launch/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

Milwaukee added a higher priced M18 compact brushless combo kit option. First it was featured in free tool promos, and now it’s sold along side the typical kit. The new combo has a hammer drill instead of a drill, and one of the 2Ah batteries was bumped up to 4Ah.

Why do all the combos have to be a drill and an impact? I just need a drill and anything else but an impact. My impact I have is fine.

They have premium and promo priced cordless drill kits too. Most cordless brands do the same, it’s just a matter of timing.
