Dewalt’s 40V Max cordless hedge trimmer, which first launched with the 40V Max lineup in Spring of 2015, is on sale over at Amazon, today only.
It’s priced at $189 for the kit, which comes with a 4Ah battery pack, today only (6/10/16). The sale ends at 3am on 6/11, unless supplies run out sooner.

The hedge trimmer features 22″ blades with a cutting gap of 3/4″. Dewalt says that the trimmer can handle branches up to 3/4″, with its hooked-tooth guard blade.
It has a large auxiliary handle for user comfort and grip. The top cover opens for access to the brushes, and gear case cover is removable for easy blade changes.

How does Dewalt yard tools compare to Stihl’s battery line?

I see a lot of favorable comparisons with the ECHO 56 V line. Where people prefer the ECO line due to their commonality with other pro line parts. (echo, Husqvarna, and Stihl share a lot).
but will show that the dewalt products work very well.
Also brushed vs brushless – with the jerk loads that a hedge trimmer could see and the spikes in torque demand – it makes some sense that this wouldn’t have a brushless motor in it – and be dedicated designed around the task.
Not to say a brushless tool couldn’t be designed for the job – but there would need to be some shock isolation and perhaps a good bit of over capacity built in.

Going on Amazon’s reviews of the dewalt products vs most of the other gas and battery they seem to be around the top. My dad couldn’t believe the power my 40v string trimmer had to tear through a 40ft long buildup of weeds 2ft+.
I love it first because I’m very tall and the length is better than anything else I’ve seen.
I have a dream that DeWalt will expand their 40v batteries to be used in more than just a few lawn equipment tools, and thats when it will really draw serious attention.
But even if they dont ,the string trimmer alone has been worth the price. You dont have that disappointed feeling after using it that it’ll do the job but it’s not as strong as you were hoping for.
Unless you are used to the stronger/higher end gas ones and are expecting it to whittle away at concrete and take out oak saplings, then you really need to reset your expectations or buy a brush cutter.

I keep thinking they will introduce some SDS Max or something rotary Hammer and maybe a _________ tool that will use the 40V system also.
you know more industrial tools based like their old 36V Ni Cad stuff from way back.

Oh man, back then those 36V units were unlike anything else available here. If they’d do that again, but with modern brushless and li-ion tech..
Maybe the #WorldsFirst thing they’re teasing uses these batteries?

Frankly I’ll wait for Milwaukee’s new ope equipment to fill in where I don’t already have working equipment. I have 16 m18 batteries and growing. I think that will more than cover my yard.

The Only Yellow tools I have is their vac, the framing gun and most of their OPE tools. Hemmed and hawed on Big Red to release something but while waiting, I picked up one OPE, and then another, etc from Yellow Team.
I’ve gotta say though, it’s nice to have a 7.5 40V battery on tap
