Hot Deal: Buy a Dewalt 20V Max Starter Kit, Get 2 FREE Cordless Tools

dewalt-dcb205-2ck-20v-max-starter-kit

Buy this Dewalt 20V Max starter kit, which comes with a charger, (2) 5.0Ah Li-ion battery packs, and a carrying case, and get your choice of 2 FREE tools.

Yes, that’s right, you get to choose 2 free tools, from among a list of 15 tools, most of which are hardly ever discounted, if at all.

To get in on the deal, you have to buy a specific starter kit, for $310 $299. Some other retailers are offering it for $299, but to get the deal you have to buy it from Amazon directly.

(Amazon lowered the price of the starter kit to $299 on or just before 8:30am 11/19/16.)

See More Tool Deals

I saw this kit pop up during a regular “what’s new from Dewalt on Amazon” search, and wondered why the price is so high. Well, this deal is why.

Buy Now(5.0Ah Starter Set)
Promo Details

The deal ends 12/31/2016, and it might also be dependent on a limited quantity of 20V Max starter kits. I’m willing to bet that some of these bare tool choices will also be selling out.

By itself, this new starter kit, DCB205-2CK, is not a very good deal. In comparison, (2) 5.0Ah Li-ion battery packs are $145 via Amazon. That 2-battery pack is usually higher, at $159, sometimes higher even, as previously discussed. (2) 5.0Ah batteries with a charger? $214 via Amazon. (2) 5.0Ah batteries with a double-bay charger? $228 via Amazon.

Sooo… yea, the $310 $299 price of the Dewalt 20V Max starter kit is heavily inflated, unless I’m missing something.

When you look at the selection of free tools, priced up to $259, with the average being around $125, the deal turns to REALLY HOT.

If you’ve been looking to buy one of these higher priced tools, or any 2 of the entire selection, this deal becomes a really good buy.

Just pretend you’re paying $310 $299 for everything, and the sourness of the starter kit pricing wears off quick. Let’s say you want the offset shear and the grease gun. So that’s $310 $299 for $419 worth of bare tools, or $633 if you consider the retail price of the bare tools and the the regular 5.0Ah starter kit.

The brushless drywall screwgun plus the brushless 3-speed impact driver? $310 $299 gets you the batteries, charger, and $246 in bare tools.

If you look at the least expensive offerings, the grinder/cut-off tool and the LED spotlight, the free tool value is only around $165. It’s an okay but not terrible deal. For around the price of the grinder and LED spotlight and a regular 2-pack of 5.0Ah batteries, you also get a charger and the carrying bag.

But most selections get you at least $250 in free tools, which I feel to be a very good deal.

Actually, I think this is the best Dewalt cordless deal I’ve seen in a while.

Here’s what you can pick from, and remember that you pick TWO:

Oh, and there doesn’t seem to be a rule saying you can’t buy 2 of the same tool. I added 2 of the metal shears to my cart, along with the starter kit, and at checkout it shows the discount just the same. The final price is still just $310 $299 plus tax.

Actually, I think it hasn’t started shipping yet.

While “temporarily out of stock,” you can still order it, and the discount is applied just the same.

I just checked, and the discount is working perfectly and as expected.

You have to add everything to your cart with Amazon as the seller. All of the above “Buy Now” links above were specially coded to ensure this.

When you add the 5.0Ah starter kit, it HAS to be the one sold directly from Amazon. If you go by the promo landing page, it shows a listing from a 3rd party seller that’s offering a slightly lower price. If you go by the Buy Now links above, it takes you to the direct-from-Amazon listing.

You won’t see the discount in your cart until you get to checkout. There, right before you finalize the order, it’ll show a discount for the full amount of the 2 added tools.

I confirmed that it worked at around 7am 11/17/2016.

If you’re still having problems, please send a screenshot or tell me which tools you’re trying to add. Or contact Amazon – their customer service should be able to sort things out in case there’s some kind of weird issue based on the combination of tools or something like that.

It looks like there’s also a new 1 3/8 SDS + model out as well, that makes three 20v Max options. Potential comparison test? I’m in the market for one and would love to see the Milwaukee Fuel and Makita X36 and 20v max side by side.

So, I’m generally handy, when necessary, with only hand tools and a corded drill – no cordless tools at all. Is it time to pull the trigger with this deal? And, if so, what are the two best tools to buy to start out?

It may be handy to have an impact wrench available for work sometimes, but which one?

Thanks for any and all feedback.

If you work more with wood then go for the DEWALT DCF887B. If you work more with mechanical then DEWALT DCF883B 3/8 (I’d prefer the this one with the hog ring) or DEWALT DCF880B 1/2. If you do buy start with what you will use the most and go from there.

The big question is why is this “hot deal” only through Amazon? Why isn’t it available through all retail outlets such as eBay etc? . Is this something Dewalt is promoting or is amazon trying to lure people into buying tools from them? I personally don’t shop on amazon. The reviews are fake & their prices are always higher than most other online shopping sites. And $310 for 2 batteries and a charger is really steep. I bought the yellow Dewalt fan cooled fast charger and 2 3ah batteries for $175 & that was with tax. So how does 4 more hours of battery life warrant a $130 price gouge? And I’m sure that the number of drills/wrench/driver & saws are pretty limited. Who the hell wants a battery grease gun? The 2 tools deal is awesome, but the means of getting it suck.

Lots of people want a battery-powered grease gun.

    Just look at the reviews.

I’m sure that this is a promo that Dewalt and Amazon worked together to arrange.

This is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone complaining about a great deal, or calling it a “lure.”

I ain’t saying its not a great deal. If I see a deal where they give tools for the same shit I just bought, yeah I’m pissed. Especially that this shits only available through Amazon. I’m sure that there are others like me who don’t like Amazon. SBD has more than enough $ to promote this deal on all big shopping sites as well as the depot, lowes, etc. Why not let everyone get in on it? Not just amazon shoppers. Why just limit it to online? It would bring a hell of a lot more revenue.

      That’s how retail works.

Dewalt isn’t selling to you. They’re selling to Amazon, and Amazon is selling to you. Amazon is their customer, you’re the end user.

Amazon has far greater buying power and far greater reach than your average independent dealer, and even many larger ones.

Home Depot often makes their own special arrangements, and lots of dealers often participate in certain promos, such as the holiday $25 off $100 discount.

Festool is able to spread their promos to all dealers, because they have fixed pricing and often handle direct-to-user fulfillment from their warehouse.

I don’t know exactly how this all works, and we’re unlikely to ever find out the details of these arrangements.

Home Depot is offering the deal but is sold out, CPO is offering the same deal, Factory Authorized is offering the same deal, quit complaining and look, and to be fair, Amazon is $50 less than all of them who are at $299, Amazon is under $250 now

Wow thanks Stuart, this is an amazing deal. Very aggressive pricing structure. Another way to look at this deal is a pick any two tool with battery combo for $310. The selection of tools appear to be pretty good.

Stuart, I know pricing fluctuate but if you could add some price point to the post next to each item that would give us a quick idea of which combo give us the best bang for the buck.

I’m reluctant to add prices for 2 reasons:

      1) I figure that most people will make a short list of the tools they want and decide accordingly. That leads to too many pricing combinations to consider.

      2) The prices could change, and I don’t want anyone mad at me for that. Adding list prices might only complicate things.

Right now, the DCS355B oscillating tool is $120, but it could very well go to its MSRP of $129. Would I post the price of $120? $129? Both?

But is it even in stock right now? (Yes.)

I figured it would be easier to post photos and links for each one for quick reference. It took more work, but I also added to each link, forcing it to show the Amazon direct listing. Adding from a 3rd party seller, for either the starter kit or free tool selections, breaks the promo.

That was some easy Christmas shopping for me. I just pulled the trigger on the oscillating tool and 3/8″ driver. I have the old 18v batteries and tools. I wasn’t planning on upgrading but I thought this deal was too good to pass up. I’ll end up getting the adapter for the 20v batteries to use in 18v tools.

I didn’t have an oscillating tool before so curious as to how much I will use it. I have window trim to replace that is surrounded by grout that I can this tool to cut out. Also, think I will use it to cut drywall and make flush cuts whenever I need to do that.

The 3/8″ driver will be replacing my most commonly use ratchet set.

I almost got the rotary hammer but would probably end up using it once every 10 years as I’m just a weekend warrior DIY’er.

The price dropped to $299 and with the 5% amazon store card credit it’ll end up being around $300 out of pocket with sales tax.

    Thanks Stuart!

It worked for me. I got the sds drill. Multi tool and starter kit for $300. I always watch for deals on the 5ah batteries. I have lots of them. The cheapest I have found them was on eBay for $125 for two. Typically the cost around $140 for a 2 pack. So basically $160 for 2 tools a charger and a bag. Not too shabby

FYI for those on the fence or also purchased the Dewalt DCH133B Brushless D-Handle Rotary Hammer Drill, I downloaded the user manual for it on HD and was quite please that this also has a third hammer only mode for chisel bits, while the listing makes no mention and its not on the DeWalt site yet in addition to the fact that integrated depth stop rod in most photos blocks the hammer only setting not that I would necessarily trust the photo on any website as the final word.

Yet the manual describe that it is for light hammer work (which is perfect for me). I’ll order a SDS Plus Shank 1/2″ Drill Chuck an it will be perfect for boring holes in Railroad ties for 1″ rods. What an awesome deal, for about $20 more than the price of the M18 FUEL bare tool version (that is less powerful) the batteries and one more bare tool.
