Hot Deal: Dewalt Cordless Tripod Worklight

There are some very good Dewalt 20V Max cordless LED worklight deals going on right now, and they’re definitely worth checking out. In this post, we’ll focus exclusively on the tripod worklight, DCL079.

Dewalt 20V Max Tripod LED Worklight Bare Tool

Dewalt DCL079B LED Tripod Light

Over at Amazon, they have the Dewalt DCL079B 20V Max tripod base worklight on sale for $139. It’s backordered, but still available for purchasing.

(Note: a lot of tools are backordered right now, but the 1-3 week estimated shipping time on this one is pretty optimistic.)

The last time we posted about this worklight was 2 years ago, when it was on sale for $159 and then $151. It’s regularly priced at $179. Some retailers sell it for even more, but I consider $179 to the regular price.

Dewalt DCL079B LED Tripod Worklight Features

I really like the DCL079 worklight – it’s bright, easy to operate, and highly portable. I still have a test sample from Dewalt, and it continues to see regular use.

The Dewalt DCL079 features a 7′ height adjustment range, 3000 lumen brightness rating, and 3 brightness settings. The worklight is rated to IP55 water and dust resistance.

Sale Price: $139

Dewalt 20V Max Tripod LED Worklight Kit

Dewalt DCL079R1 LED Tripod Worklight Kit Bundle

If you already bought into Dewalt’s cordless power tool system, the bare tool is a fantastic deal. However, what if you also need a battery and charger? Luckily, the tripod worklight kit is also on sale.

Here, with the DCL079R1 kit, you get the worklight, a charger, and a 6Ah battery pack. Acme Tools looks to have exclusive low pricing on this kit, where it’s priced down to $299.

The same kit is currently priced at $329 at other Dewalt dealers, and so you’re saving $30 with Acme’s pricing.

Is it worth it? Oh, this is a fabulous worklight that any Dewalt 20V Max cordless power tool owner should consider buying – there’s no doubt about that. But is this a good deal?

The lowest price I could find on a singular 6Ah battery is $116, or $183 for a 2-pack. Home Depot has a 6Ah battery + 4Ah compact battery bundle pack for $149.

Compared to the $179 bare tool pricing, $299 is a good deal price on this bundle, especially compared to its regular pricing. But compared to the $139 bare tool deal pricing, the special pricing on this kit loses some of its luster.

Plus, this kit was on sale for less money last week. Are we going to see that pricing again this holiday shopping season? Maybe, maybe not, it’s impossible to say. Still, $299 is the best pricing on this kit right now. If you want the bare tool, that’s an excellent deal right now. If you want this kit, maybe keep an eye on it, I certainly will.

Paid $170 back when I got mine, saw a lot of use underground and on night shifts, and wound up with a second. All crew trailers have at least one of these or the Milwaukee version, and I know of a couple crews who personally own and use the bigger bouy style ones for underground construction. Great light👍

I have the Dewalt tripod light. I couldn’t be happier with it. I like to aim it at the white ceiling, bounces off & lights the whole room.

Hard to get too excited about either deal seeing as how Amazon had the light with charger and 6.0 battery for $189 just last week. Now that was a killer deal. MIne’s arriving Monday.

Makita fanboys, fear not! Makita has also copied Milwaukee and made their own work light. You just get the privilege of paying the brand tax to the tune of $300 for a green clone of reds light.

That shoulder strap, tool bag, and lockable battery compartment almost seal the deal, though.

That Makita looks much better than the Milwaukee. Other than the Milwaukee being able to be plugged in the Makita looks better designed.

These were $149 a week or two ago on Amazon and I thought that was as good as it was going to get. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an updated one on the way.

Stuart, how does it compare with the Milwaukee 12v tower? If I had Dewalt batteries, it seems like a great choice, but I don’t. I keep thinking that I want an entry level Dewalt 18v and 12v kit come christmas, just to have a battery and charger for when I see a Dewalt tool that feels better than a different brand tool I have or need. I don’t actually mind having multiple brands, but it isn’t effecient, just financial situation. I bought a brushless rigid circular saw with hammer drill and two batteries with charger for $150 several Christmases ago. It’s “good enough” and I like the $30 light with flexible arm to read by when we lose power. I have lots of ryobi lights, fans and the $80 lightweight weed Wacker which has lasted 4+ years. As I’m typing this, I’m seeing a pattern. I need to rationalize the Dewalt multi head kit.
Thanks for the heads up Jared. I just signed up for the Lee Valley/Veritas seconds sale. Looks like the kids won’t be getting any Christmas presents this year, or have any of their college fund in the future. (I don’t actually have kids – but I have at least 74 great nieces and nephews, and no, I don’t know must of their names. Or buy them hanakkuh presents.

I have both. The DeWalt is good for lighting up a whole room, even a very large room. The Milwaukee is good for lighting up an area of a room, even in a small room.

I also own both currently. The Dewalt is stupid heavy and large compared to the Milwaukee and basically matches the M12 light output on it’s lowest setting. Obviously, on it’s highest setting it’s at least twice as bright. It’s also much taller which is a huge benefit.

I figured I’d sell off the M12 after getting the Dewalt, but maybe I won’t as it’s so small and lightweight and the ability to run on AC gives it added possibilities as a general work light instead of a battery consumer on the job.

The other reason I think I may keep it is one of my main reasons for buying the Dewalt is working past dark on projects in my driveway and having the 2nd light M12 might make it a better lighting scenario by offering a shadow filling option.

I bought the m12 tower light from homedepot clearance for $75. It wasn’t even worth that. I use M18 radius lights and dewalt tower lights. Just better have some big batteries for them.

Oooops, just checked and the Dewalt is 3000 lumen 20v v.s.Milwaukee 1400 lumen 12v.
That’s comparing apples with much bigger apples.

I have two of these and haven’t had issues with the legs. What problem did you have?

Mine broke at the top joint of one of the legs under light use. The black plastic ear that holds the steel pin at that joint isn’t robust enough and snaps off, leaving you with a 2 legged light. Amazon is full of reviews with the same problem. Otherwise it is an excellent light.

Look at the Amazon reviews and pics. Tons of people had the top part of the leg snap.

Thanks for the tip on the 6Ah battery + 4Ah compact battery bundle. I was looking for some more batteries and I liked that package before, but it was unavailable for so long I thought they discontinued it. Just ordered one!

Looks like the holiday deal I mentioned above does not include the compact 4Ah, my bad.

I have Dewalt’s 5,000 lumen DCL074. That is a sturdy light but no tripod included. It has a joist hook or can be mounted on your own tripod. For bouncing off ceilings, or mounting high upside down, it lights an entire room.

If you want a focused light then this tripod light might be better. The reviews about the legs breaking would give me pause until Dewalt corrects what seems to be a design flaw.
