Over at Amazon, this Dewalt DCD777 brushless drill/driver kit, which is new for the season, is on sale for $119.
I can’t say this is a complete surprise, because I predicted the pricing almost perfectly in my preview post:

I suspect we’ll soon see this model everywhere, potentially at the $129 price point, maybe even less. I’ve seen one listing with a $149 price, which might be the off-season price for the kit, and so $129 during the holiday season, maybe $119, isn’t too far of a stretch.
It’s a good price for what you get. While not quite as feature-rich as the latest and greatest Dewalt compact brushless drill, the DCD777 has strong specs and is reasonably compact. Plus, it’s packaged with 2 battery packs.

- 340 UWO (unit watts out)
- 0-500, 0-1750 RPM
- 1/2″ ratcheting chuck
- LED worklight (under the chuck)
- Kit comes with (2) Li-ion battery packs, charger, and carrying bag
Update: These are the updated specs from Dewalt. Thank you to JC!
There are so many cordless drill deals out there right now, so why buy this one? Because it’s brushless, and it’s inexpensive entry into Dewalt’s 20V Max cordless power tool lineup. But, to be fair, this is not the best starter kit if your hope is to buy some heavy duty tools next, like a rotary hammer or circular saw.

Amazon and Home Depot offer free shipping.
Acme’s price is $149, and it is NOT eligible for their $25 off $100+ promo, and they only have free shipping on $199+ orders, but they do have a lowest price match guarantee.
I hate to call this an entry-level brushless drill, but how else do you describe a brushless drill that’s designed to cost less and not be as powerful or fully featured as the regular compact model (DCD791)?

Looks like the DCD790 & 780 made a under achieving baby, that’s not a bad thing, everyone loves a newborn!

Off topic, but did anyone else grab the M18 16ga nailer kit at HD for $259 ?
It looked like a fantastic deal (given the kits are usually $350-399) and I was surprised to see it not mentioned. It’s out of stock now, so it must have been a good one.

It is terrible nailer, dont buy it.

Buy the ryobi! I LOVE my ryobi 18g nailer. I lent it to my father in law when he remodeled his house. He built custom houses for year and he said it was awesome. Not having a airline or compressor is AWESOME.
I bought mine used on CL for $75.

There is a comparison video of a Ryobi and Milwaukee nailer on youtube. From what I saw, and the 2-3 bills less that would be in my wallet, I’d get the Ryobi (I forgot to figure the batteries included).
The Milwaukee was consistently locking up to prevent heat damage. So it was limited on the bump fire. The Ryobi NEVER stopped. You would have thought the M18 would kick it’s neon green molding, but nope. I saw the deal and wanted to get the M18, but remembered what I saw. I love my red, but don’t nail often enough to justify the $$ to not go all (neon) X-Mas colors.

The Milwaukee had shown far less than acceptable performance, far below what their reputation would have you expect. The ryobi performance was stellar even when compared to the major brands.

Just to chime in – we were not happy with Makita’s cordless 18ga or 23ga – tools as well – as they could not consistently sink brads/pins in anything other than pine. But they still sell – so someone must get some use out of them. I haven’t tried the other brands.
I did see the Ryobi 18ga Airstrike on display at HD – they said “New Lower Price” – I think $99 for the bare tool
My go to tool in my shop is a Cadex 21ga pneumatic

I just bought this kit for 119. But the specs you have posted here are different than those on the actual product…FYI.

Thanks! I’ll see what I can dig up, and will update the specs accordingly.

This looks to be more compact than the dcd771 i have now but for this price I’m tempted to get a dcd996 that’s both compact and offers the hammer drill feature. The dcd996 would be less than $10 more with the $25 off $100

Hi Adam,
I thought the about too but for my needs the dcd777 is more than enough and once I thought about it yeah its only 10 dlls more but with the dcd777 you are getting two more batts and another charger(at least at my local brick and mortar stores).. therefore I don’t think its apples to apples….I need the extra batts and its nice to have two chargers even if its slower..
