I checked on this recently, and the price was back to its normal price of $649, so it is good to see that it’s again on sale for ~$600.
Last winter holiday season I wrote about the same planer package deal, and at the time there was also a $25 promo, dropping the price further. So $600 isn’t the absolute lowest this planer has been, but it does come close. If you don’t want to buy the planer for immediate use, you could wait until the holiday season rolls around to see if you can get a slightly better price.
Interestingly, the planer itself, without the infeed and outfeed tables, or the spare blades, is also reduced in price, to $550. Usually it’s at the same $600 price. That’s a good deal if you don’t think you’ll want the extension tables, and if you don’t want to keep track of spare blades until you eventually need them.

Even if I were buying new, I’d probably still get the DW734 over the 735. From all the reading I’ve done, it doesn’t seem like the 35 offers that much performance gain over the 34, and the chip extractor is only important if you don’t have dust collection.
This said, I’ve never personally used the 735, so I could be wildly mistaken. Still, I’d rather have the extra $200, than the bigger planer.

From my understanding, the 735 gets more towards professional cabinet/carpenter planers as far as cpi. The 734 can only do the 96 cpi, which is one of the two speeds the 735 offers (the higher cpi is actually the slower feed rate, as both machines have similar 3 knife 10k rpm cutter heads).
Depending on what kind of work you’re doing, that could be important, and higher cpi is generally regarded to be better with chipping and snipe on specific woods. But my guess is if you find yourself needing high cpi for extra careful woodworking for most of the work being done, you’re already placing yourself out of the bench top planer market. I mean some high end planers have cutters that are more expensive than either of these. So it’s definitely not a case where the 735 is the ‘best anyone would ever need’…

I like my 734. There are times when I wished it had a two-speed feed rate but the price difference between the 734 and 735 can go a long way towards equipping the 734 with a helical cutter head. Especially if you can get a refurb 734 from Dewalt.
A Shelix head is on my to-buy list but somehow keeps getting pushed further down the stack. Funny how that happens.

I love my 734 as well. They’re built like rocks. I inherited mine from a family member who didn’t need it anymore (they’re still alive don’t worry) who never took care of tools. It sat outside, barely under cover in the Pacific Northwest for years and still runs like new.
The Shelix head is an attractive option. Especially in a small shop where you don’t have space for a floor-standing industrial planer. Seems like you can find them for the 734 around the $450 mark, so if if you got the smaller planer, you’d be half way towards saving for the helical head.

Pretty good deal, I have the 735 and the tables. I actually found suppliers of blades much cheaper than DeWalt and so I’m not sure I would care to much about that part of the package. As far as the tables are concerned, they are useful if you want to put the planer away somewhere between uses because they can fold up. However if you have space to keep it out then a single melamine board running all the way through the planer bed and extending either side would actually be better.
