Dewalt DW735X Planer Package Savings

Dewalt DW735X Planer Package

Over at Amazon, this Dewalt DW735X 13″ 2-speed planer package is on sale for $600, and is eligible for their $25 off $100+ holiday promo (ending 12/22/15), dropping the price to $575.

The same package is $649 elsewhere, or $624 after discount at other retailers also offering the $25 off $100 savings.

The planer by itself is $549 and is not eligible for the holiday discount. So for $26 more, you get an extra set of planer blades, and both infeed and outfeed table extensions. The folding tables are typically priced at $45-$55, and a spare set of planer blades is $47, or $75 for 2 sets.

In other words, if you’re interested in either a spare set of blades, or extension tables, the DW735X planer package is a good way to go.

This is a very highly regarded planer.

It has a 15A 20,000 RPM motor with 10,000 RPM cutting speed, and can handle workpieces up to 13″ wide. There’s a 2-speed gearbox that changes the feed speed from 96 CPI to 179 CPI for finish or dimensioning cuts.

There’s also fan-assisted chip ejection that helps clear dust and debris from the machine. It comes with a dust hose adapter for attachment to a dust collection system.

If a new Dewalt planer was on your wishlist, you can save a little bit if you buy it now.

This model is said to have a 100 pound shipping weight, so and probably weighs near that when unpacked. Make sure you have a sturdy base for it. If you don’t, there’s an optional stand available for $150 to $180.

I bought one used a few years ago from the owner of a small cabinet shop. Great small planer. Between the two owners mine has had 1,000s of board feet run through it and still runs great. The blades can be sharpened and I’d recommend that since they’re rather expensive. Mine came with the stand as well which works really well and is solidly built. The only warning I’d give is that the included fan chip ejection works well if you have a large dust collector. If you have a shop-vac I wouldn’t bother using it with this, just run hose from the dust collector to a large garbage can and let it do the work. It also generates a good amount of static electricity so definitely bond/ground the planer, hose and can.

If I didn’t already have my Makita – I’d probably bite on this deal. The extra set of blades is a good thing – as my experience with the Makita is through them fairly quickly. I’m also not 100% satisfied with the Makita – when it comes to tearout on tough wood.

Rockler has the planer with extra blades and tables for $650 and throwing in free roller stand and wixey gauge for the planer. That might be the better deal if you need the extras

Nice! I was excited about the Rockler deal but just looked into it. It is not eligible for free shipping, and they add $50 for shipping. It came out to $727 with tax.

While on Amazon you can add the same Rockler stand, Wixey gauge and Dewalt package for a total of $697 since there’s no tax.

So, I guess it comes down to if you want to save $30 and get it sooner from Amazon (with Prime shipping), or spend the extra $30 and know you have Rockler there in case anything goes wrong with it. I’ve never had to return a power tool I purchased on Amazon and don’t know how much of a process it is. Either way I’d have to ship it out if worse came to worse, as I don’t have a Rockler here. If you have a Rockler close by, you’ll save the $50 in shipping and come out $20 ahead.

      Decisions, decisions…

I bought it on cyber Monday and got free shipping with the package from rockler but adding $50 for shipping definitely changes things. I live in Texas so have to pay taxes for Amazon and rockler
