Dewalt DWS780 Sliding Miter Saw Cutting Wood

The Dewalt DWS780 12″ sliding miter saw is on sale right now, and eligible for added coupon savings on top of that. This is Dewalt’s best corded 12″ sliding miter saw.

Right now (September 5, 2023), more than one retailer has the miter saw on sale for $499. Not only that, it’s eligible for $75 coupon savings, bringing the price down to $424 with free shipping.

At Amazon, you have to “clip” the coupon on the product page prior to adding the miter saw to your cart. At Acme Tools, use coupon code YELLOW.

The DWS780 does not usually go on sale. On occasion, it’s bundled with a free or discounted portable stand. It’s rare for a tool like this to be both on sale and eligible for additional coupon savings.

The DWS780 miter saw increased in price from $600 to $649 last year, and its list price has apparently inched up to $669.

Dewalt DWS780 Sliding Miter Saw Angled View

The Dewalt DWS780 features a dual bevel adjustment (49° left and right), 3800 RPM blade speed (no-load), 50° left and 60° right miter range, and LED CutLine blade positioning system that casts a shadow where the saw blade will make its cut.

With the back fence design it can cut up to 2×14 construction lumber in a single pass at 90°, and 2×10 at 45°. It can cut nested crown molding up to 7-1/2″, and base molding vertically at 6-3/4″.

As mentioned, the DWS780 is Dewalt’s best 12″ sliding miter saw. The DWS779 is their typical holiday season promo model, with a few differences, such as not having the CutLine positioning system.

This and other Dewalt 12″ miter saw models were recalled last year – see Dewalt Recalls Nearly 1.5 Million Miter Saws. A “stop sale” was issued prior to that. As long as you buy from authorized dealers (such as the ones linked-to above), you should be getting fresh or verified inventory.

If this 12″ sliding miter saw doesn’t suit your needs, keep in mind that there will be a second Prime Day in October, and the holiday shopping season will follow on its heels.

I have it on good authority that plug-in tools are compatible across all brands 😉

I missed that, thanks. Wonder how popular these are now compared to cordless. Regardless, I wouldn’t consider a corded model at this point…

corded miter saws are still significantly more popular considering how much retail space they still occupy.

I wouldn’t consider a Milwaukee (corded or cordless) anyways. Not a very reputable miter saw brand. The 12″ cordless has reliability issues, though Dewalt’s original cordless did too, but only because of the wall adapter (that Milwaukee never had and will never attempt because it’s 18V). And for how much they charge (with limited sales, especially on their corded saw) you best be expecting rail forward designs for what you pay.

Dewalts got the standard style miter saw market still pretty well locked down regardless. They’re the gold standard there. Tablesaws too.

The 120v dc flexvolt version was awesome! The new 60v is not. No ac adapter no deal. Even if the battery is awesome a 12″ saw is more professional so it needs a professional power source.

Yeah, nah, nah. The 120V saw is, for sure, an awesome tool. But the AC adapter was its weak link, although a major selling point. It often blew the controller when used on AC power, and a lot of professional users endured lengthy delays getting it repaired.
The new 60V 12” saw is a much better battery tool, runs all day on a 9AH battery, even on professional sites. The regenerative braking really is the silver bullet that kills the need for a 12” saw to be corded.

I’ve used this saw quite a bit, and have the 779 with the shadow line upgrade.

For $425 this is a no brainer. Other than being heavy and needing a lot of space behind the saw, it’s a great piece of equipment.
If you can avoid traveling with it, and have a deep cabinet to put it on, it’s one of the bests. The LED shadow thing is far superior to a laser, and is a dream to cut miters with.

Where do I get the shadow line upgrade for the 780?

        It’s built into the DWS780.

It’s built into the 780, but not the 779. It’s about $100. I got the 779 for $350 and the 780 is usually $600 so it made sense.

Yeah, I hope they have a redesign on the armature so it does not take up so much room behind, but other than that, it is a great saw.

(I also have an upgraded 779)

I keep hoping the 12″ non-slider will go on sale soon. Hoping to replace my old Craftsman 10″ slider with one that stays square when you make cuts.

I have no idea how good this deal is, but I just noticed that CPO has the DWS716 non-sliding corded 12″ miter saw on sale for $320.99 with free shipping.

As many have noted good saw at a good price.
Question: Anyone know of a 3rd party replacement miter saw clamp source? The ones that come with most miter saws seem problematic, kind of finicky to use. Looking for a better mouse trap here. I have the HF Hercules, but looking at the 780 in the stores, the OEM clamps seem very similar.

I have this saw and like it. But, the XPS shadow line is not that great. The shadow distorts as you move the saw along the rails. And the shadow isn’t really crisp until the sawtooth is nearly on the material—at which point you don’t really need it. It’s nice to have it when the workspace is dark however.
