Home Depot has been advertising the newish Dewalt DWS782 sliding miter saw as a “special buy,” with a price of $399. They also say it has a “$599 value,” which is the price of the DWS780 sliding miter saw that it’s based off of.
There are a few differences between the two saws, mainly how the DWS782 lacks the XPS LED module of the DWS780. I really like the XPS guide light on the DWS780 (more about that here), but don’t know if the DWS780 is worth an extra $200. The DWS782 also comes bundled with a cheaper blade.

I feel kind of weird posting about this as a Black Friday deal, but a couple of readers wrote in about it, and it seems that everyone thinks this is a BF or holiday deal. So who am I to argue?
The DWs782 came out last May, right ahead of Father’s Day, and so it’s no surprise that it has reappeared with the winter holiday shopping season.
Aside from the two main differences I mentioned, this saw should perform as well as the DWS780 miter saw, and that makes this a pretty good deal.
If you are the type to replace stock saw blades quickly, and don’t mind the absence of the stellar XPS LED cutting guide system, then you can save $200 on this saw compared to the regular model.
While I would like to say I would definitely buy the DWs782 over the DWS780, as $200 is a pretty sizable difference, I really haven’t made up my mind yet. Either way, I’m not in the market for a new sliding miter saw, and there’s no need for me to be definitive. If you’re looking for a 12″ slider, maybe my post about the DWS780’s XPS system will help guide you either way.
This is a good saw for a great price.

As for the reader that asked about how much the DWS782 cost last Black Friday, this is the first Black Friday and winter holiday shopping season that it’s been on the market. As far as I’m aware, it has ALWAYS been priced at around $399 or so.

I saw the Bosch GCM12SD saw (the one I currently use) on sale for $649 at my local HD – with the sign saying it was a special buy. Now I see its down to $599 – not sure whether that’s also a “Black Friday Deal” or not – but they say “limit 10”.

$50 savings is still an extra $50 that can be put towards a better blade or a stand.

I’ve had my eye on this saw for a long time. What are your thoughts on it since you own one? In the past, I’ve used a DW708 pretty extensively and various radial arm saws. The one thing I hated about the DW708 was how much space was required behind the saw for the guide rails.

When I worked for a living – we had a couple of dozen miter saws. We started buying the GCM12SD’s to replace older Makita’s that were starting to show their age. The first few we bought seemed perfect out of the box. I think the next one had a hiccup – maybe the packaging had changed and the saw was dropped in shipping or we just got a lemon – because the 2 fences were out of alignment. We returned it to our supplier and the next ones we bought were also perfect or just required a minor tweak to align the blade. When I retired, I bought one for my home shop – and it was perfect out of the box. All this said – I’d advise buying from a source where returns are easy should there be a problem.
Some observations:
The saw is heavy – and without the gravity rise stand/rolling cart (Bosch T4B) or some similar conveyance – you better be Paul Bunyan and have you blue ox with you easily move it around. The blade (Bosch CBT1040) is similar (junky) to what comes with may other saws. So if you want to do razor smooth molding cuts – better expect to invest in a better (Forrest, Tenryu, Freud etc. blade. In the shop you may wish to hook it into your dust collection system. Bosch hose VAC005 is 5 meters long – but will likely need an adapter to hook to your vacuum system. The saw has no laser or light guide and the Bosch add-on laser (LS010) is just OK for use in the shop – but probably not bright enough for outdoor sunny-day use. The glide mechanism, miter and bevel adjustments on mine all work very smoothly. The table features a 2-part adjustable (in and out) insert along the cut line – which has pros and cons. The pro is that it can be moved in to better backup the cutline – the con is that if you want to make a zero-clearance insert it is a bit more complicated than for saws with a 1-piece throat plate. The same might be said for the split back-fence. Overall I’d buy the saw again – or look at the 10 inch model if the price was OK

Well, the wife and I ran out to HomeDepot and picked one up when I realized they had TWO in stock and I could stack my veteran discount on top to negate the sales tax.
Just finished setting it up and playing with it a bit and I’m very happy. We had several projects around the house we had wanted to do but could not since I didn’t have a big enough saw. Now we just have to remember what those projects were. :^D

I would love to get a slider, but I’m not sure if I need a 12″. From what I hear the 10″ saws are all that you need. I have heard the 10″ saws are easier to handle, and the 12″ miter that I have used jumps a little due to the rotation of the larger blade.

For most folks the 10-inch saw is plenty. Unless you do really large crown molding or use the saw where you need that little extra cutting capacity – then the 10 inch saw would be my choice too. When I bought the GCM12SD – Bosch did not make a 10-inch version – so I went with the larger saw. My take is that soft-start would be a nice feature on many miter saws – particularly 12-inch versions – and without it you need to anticipate the blade jump.. My other minor quibble with the GCM12SD is that the safety interlock button is a bit stiff and a little awkward to depress with your thumb as you also engage the trigger – but someone with a large hand may not have this issue – and I’m not unhappy that it prevents an accidental startup of the saw

I saw the DWS780 with a miter saw stand included for “free” with the purchase of the DWS780 at home depot – “A value of $178”. It is on the website as well (model #DWS780DWX723). If you are planning on buying the heavy duty stand as well, this combo is the way to go and it does include the LED lighting system. The saws portion themselves are essentially the same price with this this deal.
