Home Depot has Black Friday savings on what looks to be a brand new Dewalt brushless impact wrench kit, model DCF921P1.

With this deal, you get the Dewalt DCF921 1/2″ impact wrench, which is part of the 20V Max Atomic compact tool series, a 5Ah battery, charger, and tool bag, for $169.
This looks like a new kit, but it’s not a new tool.

Shopping around, the Dewalt 20V Max cordless impact wrench kit with (2) batteries (DCF921P2) is $429 at authorized dealers right now, such as Home Depot and Acme Tools. Take out one of the batteries, change the charger for a more modern version, and the price gets knocked down $260?
The special buy DCF921P1 kit seems like a great deal to me.
Acme has another deal where you get the same impact wrench (tool-only) with a free starter kit, including a charger and PowerStack battery, for $219.
While I think the compact PowerStack battery is fantastic, I’d rather have the 5Ah battery and save the extra $50 with Home Depot’s deal.
Here are the key specs:
- 1/2″ square drive with hog ring anvil
- 450 ft-lbs max breakaway torque
- 300 ft max max fastening torque
- 4-speed settings including Precision Wrench and Timber Screw modes
- LED worklight
Price: $169

Slightly off topic, but BF.
Duragrit started a 25% off on their carbide sanding gear.

Code is BLACKFRIDAY2024.
Their website can be a little frustrating to use to order, but I’ll put up with it for the longevity of the carbide sanding surfaces.

How does Duragrit compare to Klingspor’s?
I don’t need any abrasives now, but for my needs (hobbyist woodworking) I’ve been reasonably satisfied with Klingspor’s in the past. Thanks.
Robert
Kilroy, I’m afraid I never heard of Klingspor. Going to their site, I see this disks for example are silicon carbide, and you get 50 discs for about $35. (Which is pretty good if they are better than Diablo quality or equal to 3M cubic quality.)
The Duragrit are a metallic carbide disc and abrasive, sold singularly not in packs. One disc costs a bit more than that price (so I wait for specials) , but it lasts a long time. And I find sands very fast. I use them for rough, low grit # sanding. None of the disc or flat sanding strips have worn out in using them in a couple of years since purchased. But I don’t use them every day, maybe every other week.
Kilroy
Thanks, that helps a lot.

Klingspor is excellent. I’ve had several of their lines over the years and they are all high quality abrasives with good resin bond and sharpness. I love their lighter weight cloth backed stuff.
I’ve had a Duragrit 5″ round disc and frankly wasn’t that happy with it. They do last forever but they aren’t all that sharp and they still clog. I think they’re best for very rough work where you aren’t going to finish sand later, but if you do then it’ll take some work to start to remove the gouges and proceed to finish sanding. I also had the tiny dremel-sized sanding drums…too much clogging and it’s a pain to clean them out (similar to the Kutzall style in that way but easier on these). I’ve wondered if Dremel has their similar carbide sourced by Duragrit, and the old Stanley Surform carbide plates, too.
Also, if you get one of the flat discs you need to be pretty careful to get it as close to perfectly centered on the pad/platen as you can. That extra weight can play hell on bearings or bushings if it’s off center much (probably more important on a handheld than on a bench disc sander with an induction motor, but still).

For much of my needs, my source for many years running has been Lehigh Valley

One of the only black Friday deals I snagged. Only actually got it because they left one not locked up on the display. Having to get someone with a key to get any tool at a store has really cut back on my impulse buys. If Lowe’s didn’t have the v series behind locks I probably would have jumped on most of those too.
Evan
Interesting! I bought this impact and almost all of the V series tools Stuart posted about, and not one of them was locked up (Home Depot and Lowes in Littleton NH and Williston VT). Are other stores locking a lot of tools?
Stuart
All of the stores near me have a lot of cordless power tools locked up in cages or with anti-theft wraps connected to steel cables.

I needed Dewalt batteries and was going to buy the three 3amps for $99 at Home Depot. After about 25 minutes and no one could unlock them I walked.

So about the wrench. I bought one of these last year when it was free with starter kit of a 6ah and a 4ah battery set with charger. Anyway it’s great for general auto work and I did use it to run a few bolts when making a pergola but mostly I use it on cars
Fairly easy lug nut removal. Strut bolts etc and it pairs well with a swivel I like the break free pause as it keeps you from running it all the way off too quickly
Evan
Thank you for this comment Nathan! Your experience and some others I read about online encouraged me to buy this for the same reason – will be my first impact wrench!

Hi Stuart! I purchased this kit at HD for $169, but now I see that Acme’s $219 kit (DCF921B) with Powerstack battery kit is reduced another $30 from $219. Is it worth the extra $20 to get Acme’s Powerstack battery over the HD battery?
Stuart
Here’s the Acme Tools deal.
This is a tough comparison. Bundled with a 5Ah battery, charger, and tool bag for $169, or with a charger and compact PowerStack battery for $189.
I like the PowerStack battery with compact tools, but a 1/2″ impact wrench – even the compact model – might benefit from the higher charge capacity and runtime from the 5Ah battery.
I’m not sure which I’d choose. I think the $169 kit is a better value, but the $189 bundle seems more enticing. I think it all depends on if/how you plan to use the batteries beyond the impact wrench.
Evan
Thank you so much for replying here Stuart, especially on Thanksgiving! I hope you get a chance to connect with people in real life in addition to your excellent posts here. Im tempted to swap out for the Acme deal (have not opened my HD order yet) and appreciate your take. My only other Dewalt tool is the OMT, but Im sure that will change over time. I do have a compact 1-2ah battery that came with the kit, as well as a 4ah backup for heavy cuts. Im probably overthinking it and either way would be a great choice!
Stuart
Thanks! I spent the day with family. I brought my laptop just in case I needed it, and was setting a prepared post to schedule when I saw your question. It was fairly quick, and I put the computer away for the rest of the afternoon and evening.
The next couple of days (mostly Black Friday and the earliest hours of Cyber Monday) are going to be brutal, and so I make sure to unplug on Thanksgiving as much as possible.
