Dewalt Jab Saw

A reader wrote in about sale pricing on this Dewalt jab saw, model DWHT20540. Thank you Mosh for the tip!

I took a quick look, and it is indeed very attractively priced. At this time, the Dewalt jab saw is priced at $6.71, and with an “in stock December 1, 2020″ ETA.

Comparing prices, Acme Tools has matched Amazon’s sale pricing, but you have to pay shipping fees if your order amount is under $199. Home Depot has the Dewalt jab saw for $12.

The Dewalt jab saw features a rubberized handle grip and induction-hardened saw teeth with 3 cutting edges.

Dewalt says that the design has aggressive cutting action that cuts up to 50% faster than traditional jab saw tooth designs.

The 6” jab saw blade is designed for use on drywall, plastic, and other building materials. Its tip looks to be shaped for piercing into materials to start cuts.

Price: $6.71

Mosh was hesitant about whether this is a good deal or not, but it looks to be a solid deal to me.

If you want to spend less, I came across a basic Irwin jab saw for $3.11 as of the time of this posting, and also a more premium-featured Irwin jab saw for $10.88.

For another upgrade option, you might also want to look at the Klein Tools folding jab saw/drywall saw, priced at $19.97 and with extremely positive user reviews on Amazon.

I have Milwaukee’s- the rasping feature is nice because it helps to clean up the cut a bit. Still, I find this to be messier than using a utility blade. Milwaukee’s is just under $8 at HD right now.

I’ve bought cheap jab saws for my wife’s gardening endeavors. Right now I think she has a few Hydes left that I paid $6 and change for. I may buy a couple of these Dewalts as replacements. While she loves Silky brand pruning saws – a cheap jab saw is just the thing for cutting roots in place. Then, when the saw is no longer sharp because of all the sand and muck its seen – you can just pitch it out. Better than spending $25 on Silky Pocketboy replacement blades

Are these appropriate for small downed trees or branches on hiking/ mtb trails! Thx!

You might be better off with a folding pruning saw. The set of the teeth, curved blade and fold-up protective design would make one safer and faster cutting. Probably can get a cheaper and/or smaller one – but this excellent silky is advertised as being on sale right now on Amazon

Be mindful of what you carry in your pack, a crash could cause this saw to literally stab you in the back. Stick with a folder!

I’m also going to say no.

However, Milwaukee and some other brands have folding jab saws that work with reciprocating saw blades. With one of those, you could equip the saw with a pruning blade and use that for small branches.

As Fred mentioned, there’s also Silky, although that’s going to be a pricier solution with harder to find replacement blades.

I like this jab saw much better than the Milwaukee model that is currently on sale. The grip is more comfortable, it is sharper (especially the tip), and keeps its edge better.

It is there, but won’t let me add to Cart. Acts like it is going to then nothing is there. Weird. Maybe it is just me.

It does that usually when there’s a disconnect between in their system. Happens to me on occasion, and usually means the last one just sold out.

It’s now back to saying “in stock December 1, 2020,” which I suppose means they verified inventory levels?

I guess they would rather take a listing down temporarily than to oversell.

24 hours later, and nobody let me know that the title said “Jaw Saw” instead of “Jab Saw!” Whoops!

    Or did everyone miss it?

I thought the typo was kinda neat, but I did see it. I think everyone understood, though.

Sometimes no matter how many times I read something over or see a headline, I still miss something.

Or is it intentional as a way of maintaining my cover as a human being? =)

I eventually caved in and bought two of ‘Jaw Saw’, third time it was back in stock. I don’t even work with drywall as all our homes here are made with bricks and mortar. I’m sure they will come in handy chopping up cardboard or something.
