Dewalt 80pc Drilling and Driving Bit set

Technically, based on the sale price, you’re saving $2 and getting the drilling/driving bit set for free.

Bundle Sale Price: $173

Buy Now(via Amazon)

Thank you to Mosh for the heads-up!

Deal ends at 3am ET 6/7/2018, unless supplies sell out sooner.

Our Thoughts

Frankly? I’d pass, unless that same Dewalt 247-piece mechanics tool set was already on my short list. Or maybe if I was looking at the 205-piece set, or something like that, which wasn’t too far off in price.

The bit set looks pretty basic to me. It retails for $40, but on a regular day I’d put that same $40 towards a Dewalt Pilot Point drill bit set, and maybe a Bosch or Milwaukee impact-rated screwdriver bit set.

I like Dewalt mechanics tools, and that set looks to have a nice selection of tools and accessories. It seems to be a very good value, too. But I’d be more excited about the deal if the mechanics tool set was discounted, instead of being bundled with a somewhat lackluster starter bit set.

If you buy this, it should be because you want to save a whole $2 off the regular price of the set, or you have a specific plan for the bit set.

I agree – its kind of a ho-hum “deal” – probably not even worth my comment or space as a Toolguyd Post.

On a bit off topic deal of the day – ToolUp is offering (for 2 days) 25% off on Milwaukee drain augers, cordless machines and accessories. As an example the M12 drain snake model 2571-20 is priced at $164.24 ($219 at Home Depot) and there is a deal for a free 5.0Ah battery direct from Milwaukee

I figured that some commentary was called for, partially because I know some other sites might be talking it up as a fantastic Father’s Day deal, and partially because it helps balance out my usual enthusiasm, which can be strong at times.

I always assumed that there were lots of tools and/or so called “deals” that you were not enthused about – and that they, therefore, did not appear on ToolGuyd. I don’t think you hand out praise or gush-poetic about everything as some others do. My thought is that folks who rate every tool with 4.5 to 5-stars provide little value – and might as well be saying ” I never saw a tool that I did not like”.

Meanwhile, thank you for what you do and how you do it – including letting your readers nitpick from time to time.

Part of the “deal filter” is time-limited. But with things like this deal, mass media and nationwide tool-related magazines typically cover them as “WOW, buy this.”

I check Amazon’s deal daily, and so do a lot of readers, and figured some readers might be curious about the deal.

Deals are a tough topic area, but I tend to focus my attention on friendly sites I can vouch for, and those I naturally pay more attention to as a customer, which also tend to be the same retailers ToolGuyd has affiliate relationships with. That’s not by accident – I tend to say “no” to new affiliate opportunities, as I don’t want ToolGuyd posts to have built-in shopping engines with half a dozen or more different retailer links.

This is more than I probably needed to say, but maybe it’s good to know.

Your filter is appreciated. Amazon drives me crazy with their deals, especially the daily ones. Who has time to go through the huge list and consider it saving?

I did notice that ebay has a 20% coupon today for Father’s Day. I used it to get a Sun Joe SPX3000 pressure cleaner but it’s good up to a total of $100 total discount which seems worth mentioning.

I appreciate the lack of enthusiasm here Stuart. Sometimes posts can seem way to excited for nothing special

Home Depot has the 200 piece set on sale for $90. It’s not a stock item and retail is $180

I agree. Definitely ho hum deal.

I am looking to purchase the M12 Inflator. The price is actually reasonable as is at 79.00 for the inflator + 2.0Ah battery but since father day is just around the corner I am hoping that it will go on sell. Beside I already have the Viair 88P so it’s not a must. Though after one of my tire developed a slow leaks recently taking out my compressor or popping the hood to hookup the 88P did get old pretty quickly.

I own the DeWalt socket set and, for me, it’s an awkward combination of sizes and drives. I paid a lot less, too. If memory serves, around $99, and I wouldn’t buy it again. It’s middle of the road quality, the pieces can be VERY hard to remove from the case (on the plus side, they don’t fall out when you carry the case around, and I’ve had one piece replaced by DeWalt under warranty, which was a quick and positive experience. )

Not a horrible set, but not great either. I wouldn’t ged rid of it, but like I said, if I had it to do over, I wouldn’t buy it again either.

Dewalt is having their dewalt days. I picked up a 3ah battery and charger kit for $119 and got their sawzall for free [$119 value].
It was actually to replace a employees old XRP stem pack sawzall that broke while he was working on a project for me.
You can choose either the sawzall(recipsaw), 6-1/2″ cirsaw, or grinder. I thought it was a good deal.

Not a good deal. Even the Dewalt mechanics sets sometimes at Costco are much cheaper with equal items…all of theses types of sets are fine for a cheap set to have in the trunk but not for diy mechanic work…..

I agree on the deal being meh. Might I make a suggestion for another ToolguyD post though.

“Best, cheap all in one OR pieced together trunk toolkit/mechanics kit.”

^I’m sure that phrase could be cleaned up better. Would love to know what people are willing to spend to keep in the trunk of their or their loved ones vehicle for emergency/on the go use. A specific list of tools or an all in one kit.

I’ve been trying to figure out best for cheap to keep in my vehicle that if for some reason if it got stolen I’d be pissed but not ripping my hair out pissed.

Good idea about the mechanics tool kit to keep in your car trunk for emergency / on the go use.

Last year I was visiting relatives in Canada and I installed a few sets of brakes on several cars. It was a hassle not having my own tools and trying to track down what was available from my brother-in-law’s and my father’s toolboxes. I ended up having to buy several tools.

My car is 14yrs old and the drive up to visit my folks is 900-miles so I think it would be prudent to have a toolkit in the trunk.

I did see the Dewalt 200-piece kit at Home Depot for $90 and wondered about the quality of Dewalt’s mechanic’s hand tools and the selection of that kit…
