Dewalt Multi Construction Drill Bit

Dewalt’s new multi-material drill bits bore through anything. Well, almost anything. Similar to the Bosch Multi-Construction drill bits that came out a while back, these multi-material bits are designed to handle light-gauge steel, sheet metal, PVC, wood, ceramic, tile, brick, and cinder blocks.

The bits are designed with carbide split point tips and aggressive flute angles for faster material removal. A non-spin shank helps to minimize slippage.

If you want to try them out, a 5-piece set is priced at a little over $20. This set, DWA56015, includes 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 5/16″, and 3/8″ drill bit sizes. These sizes are also available separately, as are 5/32″, 7/32″, and 1/2″ bits.

Our Impression

Regardless of how “universal” these bits, and others like them, might seem, they’re not. They are best used to drill through some material and into masonry, such as when mounting metal, wood, or plastic objects to bricks or blocks. Yes, you can use them to drill through any standalone material, but you’ll get better results switching to a regular twist bit. There’s a reason why these bits are only available in limited sizes that correspond to the most popular construction fastener sizes.
