What types of cordless power tools do you want to see Dewalt come out with this year?
We know that a new group of Dewalt 12V Max Xtreme Sub-Compact cordless power tools are coming. We also expect to see a couple of Dewalt Atomic cordless power tools.

Here are some other tools that are coming soon: a new 8Ah battery, cordless fiber cement shears, and a cordless heat gun. Their new FlexVolt blower has also hit stores.

I also wished for new 12V max compact cordless power tools and brushless 12V Max cordless tools, but that part of my 2016 wishlist is coming true. Although Dewalt has not yet officially announced their new 12V Max Xtreme Sub-Compact tools, they have announced new brushless drills and drivers in Europe. I don’t think it’ll be long before we see those tools announced here.
Dewalt has done a lot with their 20V Max cordless power tool lineup and also their FlexVolt system. But, users’ requests will never be completely fulfilled.

Totally agree. Love this little saw. Brushless and dual bevel would be killer. Don’t have to pull out big saws for dragging work or repeat frame ups. Awesome.

– A miter saw that is more capable than the brushed 20v 7 1/4″ DCS361 yet more portable and budget friendly than the 120v 12″ DHS790. Ideally a 10″ dual bevel slider, whether it be 2x20v or 60v. I’d buy at least 3 or 4.
– Pole saw, 20v and/or 60v (like most of the OPE it’s nice having both available)
I know there will be many job specific uni-taskers mentioned by others, so I’ll leave that to them.

A 1/4 and 3/8 ratchet would be wonderful for the 20V. I shouldn’t be that hard seeing they make it for MAC tools. I’d like to be able to walk into Lowe’s and buy it.

why a 12V – 1/2 inch impact? at those torques and that size fasterns you will need a bigger tool to avoid arm damage anyway.
The 20V comes in 2 flavors and the big one easily does those values and then some. The mid gets close.
now a 1/4 drive or 3/8th impact at 150 ft lbs is reasonable. Then again that’s about where the impact drivers sit today. I use my dewalt impact driver with a socket adapter on my car now.

Right angle brushless impact ratchet at ¼, ⅜, ½ inch. Needed to have tork of at least 60 – 75 ft lb. Doesn’t have to be high speed just constant. Needs LED light and paddle switch. Have an option so battery can be on bottom so to could stand on battery ( like a 4 amp battery) and be able to have to battery able to slide so it would be more flat in hard to reach places (1.5 amp battery).

I was working on a flat ages ago, it was a furnished flat and they wanted to sell it, a guy from an agency came to do a floor plan and was using a DeWALT laser distance measurer and was noting all in a notebook, suddenly I heard he measured the length of the room and it was 13 meter! He was working for agencies for ages and I am sure he had not seen 13 meter long rooms in more than 99% of the flats in Central London. I told him the length looks like 6-7 meter to me and then he measured it again and it was close to 7 meter, I remember I told him that I would never trust a measurer like this and I am still behind what I have said!

I’ve been using a Bosch for years and have no issues. Tons of these are sold, and I just don’t hear stories like that. I suspect user error, and not doing a reality check on his results. I know I hit the wrong target occassionally.
Now, those old ultrasonic (? had a cone-thingy?), those I did not like. Laser though? Good to go.

This seems like an increasingly common foible of our digital age. While some folks were always better with spatial relationships – reliance on calculators and now computers and digital devices may have a negative impact on people being able to do math in their heads. I was over on your side of “the pond” last month – and someone asked me about why I had bought my principal residence (back in the 1970’s). I mentioned that the basement was some 2400 sq. feet and that I thought it would do well for a shop. The sq. ft. measurement – got a glassy stare – so I quickly guessed220 sq. meters – while my listener fumbled with his cell phone and corrected my guess by a small bit. I had multiplied 2400 by 0.09 in my head and then rounded up.
I recall a cartoon in construction magazine – with a young architect looking in dismay at the long line of cement trucks waiting on a pour at a small residential site. The caption read “I think I forgot to divide by 27 !”
Having a good sense for the numbers – is a indeed a useful skill to acquire. I really like my Leica Disto 810 – but I hope that I would recognize that something was amiss if it told me that a typical Manhattan kitchen was 40 feet long.

I think the tool got confused and instead of 6.5m measured it twice more as 13m. Maybe new ones are good, but this story was about 9 years ago. But what made me angry was that how he could not understand that distance did not look 13m and it was his daily job to just measure rooms from one flat to another flat, anyone here has seen a bed room 13m long?

You can also get funky measurements on reflective surfaces and some windows.
Using them from wall to wall though is always on point. LDF’s are great.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more flexvolt OPE that is on equal feature setup as the 40V series.
I don’t really want to buy into the 40v line and have the 2 batteries I can’t cross use. I’d rather have flexvolt batteries that I can use on my 20V tools and future Flexvolt tools.
I’d like to see a flexvolt x2 table saw come out that is the same saw or size as the current larger corded model.
Not the same question but I’d like to see a new corded drill come out that’s updated and made in USA
a flexvolt random orbit sander/buffer would be nice too. 6 inch actual random orbit.
Dewalt version of the MAC ratchet would be nice if only to sell one at a reduced price – damn things are spendy even used. But I’d still rather it was on the 20V system than the 12.
Does the new mid torque wrench have tool connect? I’d like to see all the torque wrenches have a tool connect mode where you can put a torque limit on them – or register a value. maybe a speed too. That’s just me being picky and needy though.

Here in the UK a lot of Makita’s 36V tools are in two options, one with 36V batteries and one with 2 x 18V batteries, both the same just battery ports are different, it seems in the US Makita has less options like this. I think DeWALT can adopt that policy also and they can make their 40V tools available with two 20V batteries, as it is with their 2 x20V Mower.

The 36v, single battery is the old tech. I think the last new tool on that system was 10 years ago. They certainly haven’t made any new tools in that form factor. the 18vx2 is a far superior system to the single 36v battery.

– This seems like a natural progression, but an updated toughsystem radio that accepts flexvolt, keeping the current sound quality/design. I returned the new tstak radio because it could not get as loud as my toughsystem radio without distortion.
– Last year Stuart talked about wanting a 120V 10″ table saw… me too.
– Not necessarily DeWalt, but how about a decent size (10 gallon +) cordless vac without the HEPA priced for the homeowner? Maybe technology isn’t there yet to compete with corded vacs since $100 gets you a good one. But with all the rolling dust extractor carts I see people making I bet I’m not the only one that would buy one.

I for one would never buy a cordless large format shop vac. Doesn’t make physics sense for the power need. The constant run would require significant battery capacity – not necessarily draw demand. Just capacity.
now I guess if you said it was a Flexvolt X2 that could use the adapter – maybe I would consider it.
The smaller capacity Flexvolt vac they make now – makes a lot of sense for portability.

I would also hope that it would have some form of tool control or remote control like the new flexvolt model to reduce battery consumption. And I guess vacuum capacity isn’t a big deal anymore when you have a separate dust bin ahead of the vac. I guess what I want already exists, just has a HEPA/OSHA label price tag. Since construction companies HAVE to have them lets double the cost, or at least I hope that’s why the price is so high.

5) Toughsystem Vacuum/Dust collector 60V/120V Flexvolt, which accessories and hose are placed in another Toughsystem box not wrapped around the Vac as it is in TSTAK version.

That mitre saw comment has me curious. I mean it’s a reasonable idea but I have to say I’ve never seen one with markings on them. probably due to the size of the rotating base plate. still interesting idea.
I’d want a 20V soldering iron – not the 12. More power capacity and quicker availability.
The copper pipe thing might sell too good point.

I remember I had to cut a lot of 2 x 4 in approximately 19cm (less than 20cm) length and I was measuring and marking with a pencil and there was a Portuguese guy working with me who did mark the Mitre saw table 19cm from the blade and that is it, I did not need to measure anymore and I was just cutting non stop. This idea would work for short length cuts only, probably up to 30 – 40 cm, but it would be a big help, I hate to look for a tape measure or a pencil at work. It would be good if you don’t need a precise cut.
A soldering tool for copper pipe is a good idea, Rothenberger makes one but it is so huge and it is corded and Antex makes one hand held version which does not have good reviews, also corded. A cordless version of this would be amazing, I would buy ten units if they make one.

around here (US) mostly people use propane torches for copper pipe solder. But there are the occasionally issues where you’d rather not have an open flame.
clamp on inductance heater would be nice. I’ve seen the corded ones but you make a point there isn’t a cordless one. Wonder what that power demand would be – never looked into it.

Here in the UK also they use gas torches for soldering copper pipes. I don’t like compression fittings too much as they can leak one day, I would only use compression fittings if the work is going to be visible, not next to any wooden or plaster surface.
I know, it might be a good idea if it is going to be a 60V tool.

Id like to see more 12v max stuff. Maybe a 12v brushless angled driver or a compact light like the dcl050 or a 12v compact light duty grinder. I use the 12v max impact drill and the lights everyday. Im in the hvac field and also would like to see a vacuum pump. It would be very helpful since sometimes there is no power around.

Re-introduce a small, lightweight cordless screwdriver with variable speed, led light, folding handle and a Li battery that can be removed to charge- and make extra batteries obtainable at a price that is FAIR for consumers.

I can think of three things that I’d like to see:
– 20v vac, dust-buster style.
– 20v atomic series ratchet.
– A lightweight cordless glue gun that uses standard glue sticks, preferably based on the 20v system so I can use the small batteries yet still have it heat quickly.

How about a 3/8″ drive 90 degree 20V ratchet (similar to the Fuel). They already make the BRS038 in 12V for Mac. I own the Fuel, it’s the only (lonely) Milwaukee charger in the whole shop.

I just realized that the last time I got out an air hose was for the air hammer. That could be the only remaining pneumatic hand tool that no one has made cordless yet. Either it got overlooked or the movement is too complicated to reproduce.

I don’t see how it would be any different from a recip Saw mechanism, well, I don’t know how strong that style would hit. Not sure how they would accomplish it but it certainly would be handy to have a cordless one.

wonder if a rotary hammer mechanism would work for that. minus the bits that turn. IE rotary hammer without the turning – which if I recall the larger device – you can run the rotation off. But that is something you don’t see.

I’ve seen what they call a mag drill – magnetized base sticks to an i-beam or structural steel – and you can then drill the beam or one next to it.

3) A tile cutting scoring wheel adaptor compatible with their tracks. This could be used to score large tiles or drywal boards. No need to keep a separate t-square…

Raimondi has one and it’s really nice . They sell the tracks and an angle grinder adapter. They also have a scoring wheel. It’s called the raizor cutter system (check it out on youtube) but unfortunately the guide rails are like 600$ and the adapter 500$. Too expensive for me

I have a greenworks 2000 PSI model I bought 3 years ago. Granted I only use it about twice a year – give or take. But the nice thing – so far every year it’s started right off and I’m not spending a day fixing a shit carb on a lawnmower engine. Which is what I always seemed to have to do with any others.
Now if I used one every day or once a week I might of course use something a bit different.

While Dewalt does have a 3/4 impact wrench, it’s the same tool otherwise as the 1/2 inch model. I’d like to see a dedicated 3/4 impact, using the 60v platform. I’m ok with a larger and heavier tool in exchange for a more power and durability. Compactness isn’t as important as comfort and capability at the larger impact sizes.

At this point, maybe everyone should just look at the Milwaukee/ryobi lineup and see what’s selling the best and make a version of those to add to the lineup.
I really don’t want a cordless DeWalt anything, but it would be nice to see some variety and actual competition in the cordless market for stuff beyond drills/drivers/etc.
I’m really not understanding how SBD can be such a massive company compared to TTi and yet have such a small line of cordless DeWalt tools. Given how many commercial users swear by the brand and only buy it, I would have thought they would eclipse TTi/Milwaukee/Ryobi many moons ago in terms of the amount of cordless tools available. Maybe everyone really just wants more drills, drivers, and saws.

I deal with contractors on a daily basis at my job and see almost every contractor using DeWalt or Makita power tools. I rarely see any Milwaukee except for some items like to cordless fans and vacuums. For heavier equipment like busters I see mostly Bosch.

I mostly agree with you, their Flexvolt line is good though, they have made a 60V cordless Wall Chaser which is amazing, their 60V mitre saws are very impressive, But I also say that half of their 20V tools are drills and impact drivers.

Thought they had a rebar cutter – in 20V now. and they did for a time market a dewalt cordless welder. it wasn’t a common battery platform but rather a Lithium car battery for want of a term.
Use the battery – limited welder capacity – or plug it in and it charged and could be used direct on cord. but not at the same time. Either it charged or it welded. I think. The OE of the device was european I think. Always wondered what happened to that setup.

The What?
There are some tools that are not meant to be cordless and there are some tools that the big box brands have no business making such as welding equipment copper pipe soldering equipment. Power tools and sweating copper do not apply to one another in any way whatsoever. There’s only one way to sweat copper pipe and the same method has worked for almost a century so why would you think Dewalt should even attempt to fix something that isn’t broken. As for a big box brand cordless welder, it would take almost twenty 20v batteries just to get the electrode to spark. You would have to have over a hundred batteries to make it work. Nobody would be stupid enough to buy something like that. But what I would like to see Dewalt do this year is release their next generation tools for the 20v xr stuff that’s long overdue and steer away from the atomic and 12v xtreme crap. They need to focus on the 20v xr stuff which is their bread n butter. I’d also like to see Dewalt improve the parts quality on some of the lemons that they released in past years like that POS that they call a chainsaw and make an adjustable shoe standard for every single one of their recip saws. They also need to come out with a cordless framing gun that weighs a lot less than what is currently available. They’re great tools, but it’s almost worth going back to the pneumatic guns because the cordless is so heavy and can be a real PITA to use in overhead framing situations in tight spaces.

There’s not really enough common requests for a clear to pattern to have emerged.
I could ask Dewalt for a comment, but this is the kind of thing they are unlikely to answer in any specific manner. Brands generally don’t like talking about their future product plans or roadmaps, or how they might respond to specific requests.
Similarly, “what do you think of your competitors’ new tool releases and previews” isn’t a question that I could expect an answer to.
Privately? Maybe a product manager might comment or highlight differences they are aware of. On the record? That’s like asking the Yankees manager to comment about the Red Sox.
I have no idea if or when Dewalt might have a new product media event. Their last hosted event was 2 years ago.

A new line of impact wrenches. I’m about to buy the 1 inch line from Milwaukee and use a battery adapter. Dewalt is way ahead with drills and saws. Not when it comes to impacts though.
