Over at Home Depot, today’s Deal of the Day features a selection of Dewalt and Black & Decker outdoor power tools.
One of the 2 Dewalt deals caught my attention. This bundle, DCKO97M1, features their 20V Max trimmer, blower (which I like a lot for clearing the garage floor and for light leave and debris clearing outside), a charger, and 4.0Ah battery pack.

It’s said to be on sale for $179, from a regular price of $229.
Last year’s holiday season lawn & garden tool deal had a similar kit, but with (2) 5.0Ah battery packs, for $249.
Amazon has a listing for this same Dewalt bundle, but it’s not available for purchase and there are no reviews, suggesting that it might be a new configuration.
All of Home Depot’s reviews, at least the ones I checked, seem to be pulled in from other related reviews. I’ve expressed unfavorable views about this, as it can be misleading or worse – inaccurate. For example, a lot of the reviews are pulled in from 5.0Ah kits. What if there are review comments about runtime? This kit has a lower capacity battery pack, and this could invalidate certain review opinions.
It’s just something to be on the lookout for.
A Google search for this promo kit, DCKO97M1, doesn’t turn up a whole lot, suggesting to me that it’s a promo bundle. That’s not a bad thing, but it raises questions about the pricing claims. If this isn’t a regularly stocked kit, are you really saving $50 off the $229 “regular” price?

That all said, this does look to be a very good deal, if you consider at how much just the trimmer and blower would cost as bare tools (~$120 each).
Neither tool is aimed at landscaping professionals or those who have more demanding lawn & garden trimming or cleanup needs. But they’re compact, lightweight, and should still be fairly capable.
I have not tested the trimmer, but I’ve had a sample of the blower for some time, and I love how compact it is. I’ve never been wanting for more power, at least not for what I tend to use it for. It’s a very good mid-level tool that sits right between smaller “jobsite blowers” and full-size leaf blowers.

You mean you don’t go to toolguyd.com at least once per day?… Shame

Only adding that I’m just about done with my 3rd full season of the trimmer, and it’s been perfect for a ~ 1 acre lot w/ fence trimming. I used to be a ‘professional landscaper’, i guess, and we had a bunch of stihl and echo gas trimmers at our disposal…but even for some commercial properties, they were overkill. I’m in an odd area where it gets into the low 80’s on fall days, then high 30’s at night for at least 6’ish weeks out of the year. Right in the middle of that currently, and it makes 2 stroke gas equipment a nightmare for cold mornings.
Anyway, strictly power wise, if this trimmer was around a decade ago…no question it would’ve been a go to for most of the residential properties and even some of the commercial. I have the blower also, both 5.0ah kits…and I can trim my entire property, and blow off walks, driveway, etc. all on one battery without trouble. yes, the 40v and/or 60v options would offer more capability, but these still seem to be well tuned for output and capacity that most residential people would be concerned about. They’re not for a shopping center with 26 grass islands + 1,000 yards of additional wrapping curbs that need trimming/blowing, but honestly i find these 20v OPE options to have great runtime with surprisingly high power.
Agree with the post, though. This mentioned kit doesn’t include the 5.0ah battery, which makes my use case irrelevant. But all i mean is that I have a background in the gas side of this equipment, and have been thrilled with trimmer and blower for a small property.

I have two of these trimmers, the blower and also the smaller more compact blower, all in 20v.
I love them. I find I need both blowers. The compact blower is a replacement for compressed air… a more focused blast… but not enough CFM to blow leaves or the driveway off. The trimmer works well for trimming grass around trees. IE light use. I have two because one failed and needed repair (Dewalt repaired it for free) I bought the second because my mother ended up taking one due to the fact its easy to use (she could not use a gas trimmer).

I thought about buying the trimmer last spring and visited Home Depot to see it. I ended up not buying it because it just felt too long and unwieldy. I’m 6’2″ and the battery pack area of the trimmer was all up in my armpit area. Handling it was just really awkward. I’d recommend trying one out at the store before ordering. That being said, I do have the blower and really like it.
