Dewalt Tool Deals of the Day 1-23-18

Over at Home Depot, there are several Dewalt tool deals of the day, a mechanics tool set deal, and a Ridgid deal. Thanks to Christopher and Andrew for the heads-up!!

  • Dewalt 200pc Mechanics Tool Set for $85 (Compare 250pc set at Amazon)
  • Ridgid 18V X4 drill and impact driver combo kit for $119
  • Dewalt DHS716AT2 FlexVolt double bevel miter saw kit for $399 (Compare at Amazon)
  • Dewalt DHS790T2 FlexVolt sliding miter saw kit for $499 (Compare at Amazon)
  • Dewalt 9.0Ah and fast charger FlexVolt starter kit for $129 (Same at Amazon)
  • Dewalt 20V Max Large Area Jobsite Light for $149 (Same at Amazon)

Deals end at 3am ET 1/24/2018 unless supplies sell out sooner.

The deals are pretty much self-explanatory. There’s one thing to point out – the FlexVolt sliding miter saw kit doesn’t come with the 120V Max AC adapter, which is available as an optional accessory if you do ever want or need it.

That 9.0Ah FlexVolt battery and fast charger starter kit is a very good deal. Right now there’s a special bundle on Amazon where you get 2 9.0Ah batteries and a charger for $278. But with this special buy deal, which Amazon has matched, you can get 2 9.0Ah batteries and 2 fast chargers for $258.

The previous best deal I’ve seen on the 9.0Ah battery packs was $199 for 2 batteries, and that was in October. This new deal has a higher price tag, but you get 2 very good DCB118 chargers that work with 20V Max and FlexVolt batteries. The charger retails for $79.

The DCL070 Bluetooth area worklight is also a particularly good deal. It launched last year at $399 for the bare tool! I saw some pricing oddities towards the end of the holiday season, where the kit was priced lower than the bare tool. The bare tool dropped to $199 recently, and now it’s $149 at both Amazon and Home Depot.

$149 is practically a steal for what you get!

Dewalt DCB1800B Portable Power Station

The DCB1800 portable power station is also lower in price – even lower than in December when I was shocked to see it dip below $250. Over at Amazon, it’s $221 via Amazon Prime and $210 via CPO with free shipping.

Dewalt DCK592L2 20V Max Cordless Power Tool Combo Kit

Amazon also has a Dewalt deal of the day today. The 5pc cordless combo kit, DCK592L2, a premium tool combo kit, is on sale for $399. Deal ends at 3am ET 1/24/2018, unless supplies sell out quicker.

Buy Now(via Amazon)

Personally, I find the more recent brushless combo kits more appealing. There’s a 4-tool combo kit that comes with a drill, impact driver, LED flashlight and reciprocating saw, DCK484D2 for $399, and one that swaps the reciprocating saw for a circular saw, DCK483D2 for $399. A brushed motor circular saw or reciprocating saw bare tool can be had for $100 more. These brushless kits have compact drills and not the 3-speed premium one of the deal of the day kit.

Wow, did you know that Dewalt’s 20V Max cordless power tool platform launched 6-1/2 years ago? Seems like forever ago, and I’m glad to see that they’ve greatly expanded the platform since then.

I wish I could buy several of these deals but it would add up way too quickly. Part of me wonders with all of the deals on the flexvolt miter saws and the power station if new versions aren’t on the near horizon.

I know there is a new light coming DCL073 should be tripod mountable and not take up so much space in the truck.

      David,
Where did you get the info on the “coming DCL073”?
A quick Google search didn’t give me anything other than your mention of it here.

I just picked up the tripod light. Wish I knew more about the dcl073. I like the idea of a smaller light that you can mount on a tripod, has higher lumens, and can plug in and charge a battery.

I had noticed the Home depot deal a bit before it was posted here but thank you for the comparison and the deal descriptions from Amazon. I just purchased two of the battery/charger combos from Home Depot along with a DEWALT DCCS670X1 FLEXVOLT 60V MAX Brushless Chainsaw. I was about to buy the two battery packs with one charger for $278 from Amazon, but this is a better choice. While I own and prefer gas chainsaws, for doing some quick workaround the house or times when I am elevated, a cordless electric will be easier to deal with.

Also with the amount of stuff left to clearance when the DeWalt end caps closed off in Home Depot, I wonder if maybe more their sales are just not where they expected. These look the same as the deals before the holidays, so maybe even with those discounts they didn’t get the sales they wanted.

Looking at FlexVolt in general, the table and miter saws are the biggest shifts. People are used to having cordless circular saws, joist drills, grinders even, and some of the other FlexVolt tools. People are not used to having cordless miter or table saws. My guess is it’s taking longer for them to become tested, accepted, and common than DeWalt thought it would take.

Maybe DeWalt anticipated more large scale replacements of corded saws with these just so the option of batteries was there, even if it was mostly used as a corded saw. I think people don’t view it that way, as a corded saw that is battery capable, and instead view it as a battery saw that is cord capable. This is an important distinction for whether people even look at the saw or not. If you don’t need a battery saw, which seems even on job sites to be somewhat niche, you’re looking first at corded, and may not even get so far as this saw, or when you do you write it off as cordless and unsuitable as a corded replacement. And that’s the way it has been marketed, at least as I received it, a cordless saw first, albeit more powerful and capable than the cordless connotation, that you can also plug in if you need.

I’m looking more at the mechanics tools to keep a spare set at my daughters. I’ve been a Craftsman tool dedicated user since high school five decades ago. But that was then. The latest Craftsman hand tools are all from China unless you go the Pro route and even then it seems to be “iffy” as to their manufacturing location.
Does anyone know where the Dewalt hand tools are manufactured? Or for that matter, does Dewalt manufacture them, or as I suspect, are they OEMd from elsewhere?

According to the questions on HD’s website they are manufactured in Taiwan.
I was tempted at that price but have an older Craftsman set that does 95% of what I need already.

I got one of the DCL070 lights for $199 on black Friday, and ordered a second today. I can see not wanting them taking up huge amounts of room in a work truck, but it is fantastic for lighting up my deck, yard, or woods. For my use at home I do not see the additional utility that a smaller light like the Milwaukee Radius compact/DCL073 would give me. I do hope one day a Tool Connect based update will allow the full 7,000 lumens on the DCL070, even if the battery life is terrible.

I am also really tempted by the power station since I have enough 9ah batteries to power it at this point (I bought the entire flexvolt outdoor line – incredibly happy with them, hoping for a power head next year). The table saw puzzled me, I would rather buy the power station and attach it to my existing 10″ saw, where in the case of the Flexvolt miter saw there appears to be absolutely no sacrifice vs corded.

I broke down and got the non-sliding miter saw with AC adapter for $274 over the holiday. It is an awesome accurate saw, and I am sure I will find uses for it with batteries eventually. I am a home gamer with a large property and woods and I am neck deep in 20v Max and now Flexvolt tools.

Regarding the comment above, the Flexvolt cap did not seem to do well at my local home depot. I think Tim is correct in assuming that people in trades have worked around needing electric or a generator for so long that there would not be an instant massive transition to cordless.

I’m really tempted by the battery and charger deal. I’m in Canada but will be travelling to the US soon so could order it and have it delivered to my destination. The only problem is I am concerned about bring 9.0Ah batteries back on the plane, does anyone know for sure if these are allowed?

You need the carrier approval since your battery is rated over 160 Wh (180 Wh).
