Acme Tools’ Dewalt 20V Max cordless power tool is better than similar deals at Home Depot and Lowe’s right now.
All 3 retailers have a similar deal – buy a Dewalt 20V Max cordless power tool starter kit, get 2 free tools.

Basically, you’re putting together a 2-tool Dewalt cordless combo kit for $299.

(The price for the starter kit is higher than usual, which is typical for “free tool” promos like this one. This also seems to be a strategy to combat “deal hacking” where consumers return parts of “free gift with purchase” types of tool deals.)
Acme Tools’ is better because Home Depot and Lowe’s selections are very limited.
At this time, Lowe’s selection is limited to a free bonus circular saw and a free bonus cut-off tool, with both having brushed motors. These are older and lower-value tools, and there are no other free tool options to choose from.
Home Depot’s selection features 4 different 1-tool bundles, and you can select 1 more of any of the 4 tools.
Their base starter kit is also different; Home Depot’s deal features a 6Ah battery and a 4Ah battery, instead of 2x 5Ah batteries.
Acme Tools’s free tool selection pool is bigger, and mainly includes a number of brushless tool offerings.

So while the deal is the same in essence – buy a starter kit and get 2 free tools – Acme Tools’ selection offers a much better value.
Would you rather choose as a free-with-purchase tool gift, a circular saw that retails for $99 for the tool-only, or a brushless jig saw that retails for $199?

Shop Home Depot’s Dewalt Tool Deal:
- Circular Saw Bundle + 1 Free Tool
- Reciprocating Saw Bundle + 1 Free Tool
- Sander Bundle + 1 Free Tool
- Cut-off Saw + 1 Free Tool
I find Acme Tools’ brushless offerings to be much more compelling, but you can judge it for yourself.
If you’ve up to braving holiday weekend crowds, local Home Depot and Lowe’s stores might have better selections than what’s available in their websites.

Update: It seems Lowe’s now has more options if you go to “choose your gifts.” They select 2 free tools for you by default, and you have to unselect them via checkboxes before you can choose others to add to your cart. I tested a couple of combinations, and some gave availability errors when adding them to my cart.

Not shopping this time but thanks for working today!!!! It’s your dedication that keeps bringing many people back here among other traits

Thanks, I appreciate it!
I figured there’s a chance that HD and Lowe’s selections are very sparse because online inventory already sold out, which meant posting about it today rather than tomorrow.

Disappointing that the trim router never seems to appear as a bonus tool anymore. I remember it used to, but I guess its price has just risen too high?
The models they put with the promotion these days all seem to be pretty low-spec. I’d be curious what the opinion on the promo tools are, and whether any of them are particularly good or bad quality. Some of those seem like pretty out-of-date SKUs where I’d sooner spend a bit more and get a much better model.

I remember seeing the trim router as a bonus tool during the holidays late last year. I remember it very well because I was planning to buy one but I ended up not doing so because I had a lot of non-tool-related expenses at the time. It was a “want” rather than a “need” so I passed on it, though I kind of regret that now as I have a couple projects coming up where a trim router would be a lot handier than my plunge model.
