Price Drop on Dewalt ToughSystem DXL Tool Boxes at Home Depot

Dewalt ToughSystem DXL Tool Box Deal at Home Depot

Home Depot has dropped the prices of Dewalt ToughSystem DXL tool box system combos even further, and is now offering a whopping 33% reduction on both setups.

As you might know, the Dewalt DXL system is a large form factor mobile workstation and tool storage system, with a 4-wheel cart, 1-drawer tool box, 2-drawer tool box, and work top.

The drawers come with removable dividers and feature metal rails on the sides that can fit various Dewalt accessories.

The tool boxes can hold a lot of stuff, and you can take it apart for loading into a truck bed or transporting up and down stairs if needed.

The 4-in-1 combo kit features the cart, work top, and one each of the 1-drawer and 2-drawer tool boxes, and the 5-in-1 adds in a second 1-drawer tool box.

Regular pricing: $1195 for the 5pc combo, and $890 for the 4pc combo.

Home Depot online pricing: $799 for the 5pc combo, and $599 for the 4pc combo.

With Home Depot’s sale right now, you save $396 off the price of the larger setup, or $291 off the price of the smaller setup. Both reflect a 33% discount.

All of the components are also available separately.

If the price was holding you back, this looks to be a fantastic deal, and the lowest pricing I’ve seen since the DXL system launched last year.

I’ll be passing along my sample set to a local tester next week. Having spent a lot of time with the Dewalt DXL system, I’m impressed with how well Dewalt managed to engineer it, but have also come to realize that it’s far more specialized than I expected.

This is not a one-system-fits-most type of product. That’s okay, it’s just something that needs to be emphasized so as to manage everyone’s expectations.

It’s unclear if Home Depot is clearing these out or if the discounted pricing is temporary.

I was excited for this system before it came out. I thought it was going to be the perfect way to build a great set kit for art department work. But the drawers by themselves are just way too heavy. The appeal of this to me is being able to break it down and load it piece by piece into my pick-up truck instead of making a box-truck come by and get it with a lift gate. Even at this price point I think I’m going to stick with my 2 tstak towers.

A lot lighter than any metal tool chest! I got some, little expensive to only have one or two drawers per box though. A nice option to be able to use pegboard supplies on the sides though. I got them to make my already purchased smaller boxes roll around the basement easier. Still think they’re to expensive for what they are. They’re twice the price of any other construction drawer tool box on the market.

Solution in search of a problem. The time a resources spent on this would have been better spent updating or expanding the tstak and regular tough system.

Outside the outrageous price the system is an odd platypus. The strength of steel bolted to plastic… lightweight plastic weighed down by sheet metal… rusting materials brought straight to the job site… and the list goes on. This was for sure a marking developed product line. The sets at my local depot have sat by the exit door for months. Covered in dust and dirt as people don’t even want the steal them.

I fully agree with the above poster, definitely a solution searching for a problem. The system is great but not what people wanted at the job site. Too specialized, heavy, and expensive. Basically out of touch with the prospective buyers.

Stanley should be focusing on they other outdated modular system stacks. Tstak is a great home diy system, but it has grown stale. Thoughsystem 2.0 is not real competition to Milwaukee. Craftsman versastak/prostack or whatever it’s called is practically dead.

I would love to see some new tstak options. more drawer sizes (one big deep drawer as big as the tote for starters), a stackable cooler instead of just the rolling one, maybe a tote with a fold down front for quick access when in a stack. I think there are lots of ways they could expand tstak while keeping it affordable and light.

I just got the last set at my local Home Depot (2 of each box, base and table top) for $815 after tax, it was basically 50% off before tax

I wonder if some of these are selling a particular image. It’s like so many tool ads that tell you nothing about the product but just have that loud in-your-face music fast camera cuts, with guys banging stuff around. Meant to project strength and toughness. It’s a whole genre, even selling cars that way, though usually the info about the cars is available somewhere.

I still remember seeing a European ad for a tool also sold in the US. It featured actual users discussing the features of the tool, specs etc. The US ad was just loud and fast and you could hardly even see the tool. After years of frustration trying to compare tools to decide which to buy, that mindless in-your-face banging stuff around is particularly grating.

I tend to watch the Youtubers that do wood working or mechanical work, and disregard all ads.
In the store, this Dewalt product is out in the open, not boxed, and sold that way. I mean people open them, cleaning staff have overspray on them, and even dust/dirt since HD is a warehouse. Unless a clearance or actually in OEM packaging, I would never get this in store.
Yes, the US ads are all screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeam music and “get’r’done” ideology. Have to remember that anything else has to be filtered through Legal.

The “deal” is only on the sets. The separates are still priced high, as I had built mine with rolling base, *one large DXL drawer, my previous ToughSystem 2.0 drawers that connect to the DXL and a DXL top deck w/cup holders. That last component doesn’t fit perfect with the ToughSystem. I would replace with two more DXL drawers if they were 50% off… because its not cheap.
This week, a coworker gave me a $100 HD giftcard. Sorry Stuart, I have to use it instore as I need it this weekend – I’m getting the Milwaukee Packout Rolling Large Drawer ($149 with gc).

    * I did state that finally, DeWalt’s DXL large drawer fits the DeWalt flooring nailer. DeWalt never provided or made a storage case/container for their nailer.

As a avid DIY, I love the DXL. I don’t use it to store my tools ( I prefer tstak boxes for that purpose) but as a mobile work space. I never have enough space on a regular work table to put my tools so they always end up everywhere. With this, I can put most of my stuff in the drawers and have a clear workspace.

Depending on how many tools you’re moving around, these are a lot cheaper. I have two of them and use them interchangeably between moving tools around and moving parts around. If they get nasty from greasy parts, just spray them with degreaser and hose them off. Cheap enough that I don’t really care if they get damaged. Couldn’t say that about the DXL even at 50% off.

I have always liked the idea of mobile work/diy stations, dedicated to certain tasks; device on top with their tools and consumables / supplies stowed under it. I have a few open carts like that, but the open area below is problematic. Some drawers would be nice. So, I could see myself with a few of these. Just the price point … even on sale. Brrrr. Maybe in the future after I optimize & downsize the tool collections … if/when we have a house with larger garage, and everything would be contained, but wheeled. That would help with the spouse 😉

Granted, it’s not the same form factor. But when I linked to see the 4 piece combo on the HD site there was readily available stats showing how expensive this line is for its volume. HD says the 4 piece sets hold 11.4 Gallons. There was a link right there to the Makita Maktrak rolling tool chest ($249) that says it hold 5000 cubic inches, which is 21.4 gallons. So you could get almost 4 times the volumetric capacity for a hundred dollars less.

Home Depot is also selling a 27 gallon tote bin for $8? 5 gallon buckets are fairly inexpensive.

      Form factor is everything.

I bought it when it first came out. I was working out of a rigid pro gear system. I had 2 xl boxes and a regular box. I can fit all my tools in those boxes. But it takes 20 minutes to organize all your tools to fit in the boxes. I just got tired of of laying everything out and placing items in a particular order so they can fit. At the end of the day you don’t place anything in your boxes, because you don’t want to deal with it. I enjoy my dxl system everything is organized and secure . Not time is wasted in looking for tools and storing tools. I wish they had a vacuum. Money well spent.
