Dewalt ToughSystem Tool Box Large Size

Over at Amazon, this Dewalt ToughSystem tool box is currently on sale for $31.53, which is quite a bit lower than what I paid for all of mine. This is a very good price on an excellent and sturdy tool box.

But do you really want this deal? Do you want your tools well-protected from dust, water, and impacts?

Dewalt ToughSystem 2.0 tool boxes were announced, but with an April 2020 ETA. They’ll probably launch at similar or higher price points, and April is around 5 months away. According to Dewalt, ToughSystem and ToughSystem 2.0 products will be fully compatible.

The fact of that matter is that Dewalt ToughSystem tool boxes are solid, and this is a very good deal. I bought a number of them over the years, and although most are now in the possession of the local high school, I still have a couple in active use.

The last time I bought these tool boxes was back in June 2015. At that time, the tool boxes were $52 each, and Amazon had a $20 off $100+ Father’s Day promo at the time. So, I paid $84 for two after discount, or $42 each. This current deal has them at under $32 each.

The latches aren’t effortless, but I’ve never found them to be enough of a hassle to complain about. The side handles make me nervous when the boxes are fully loaded with heavy tools, but I haven’t broken any of them yet. The top handle could be more comfortable for hauling heavy loads, but it’s workable.

Ultimately, these are well-built tool boxes. The weather-proof seal has kept some of my hand tools rust-free, even in uncontrolled temperatures and environments with high moisture at times. I cannot say the same for my Bosch L-Boxxes.

If you’re planning to reorganize an entire work truck or van, perhaps wait for ToughSystem 2.0 so that you invest in the latest designs. But that’s also going to be at least 5 months away. If you need just one or two heavy duty tool boxes right now, this is about as unbeatable a deal as we can hope to see.

Price: $33.99 (as of 11/20/19) – Amazon sold out, took the deal down, then came back with this price

I can’t tell if Dewalt and Amazon are looking to move inventory, or if this is some kind of pre-Black Friday 2019 tool deal. All I can really tell you is that it’s a very good tool box and that the price is excellent.

The large tool box (DWST08203H) comes with a removable tote.

Has anyone had work site experience with the cart which goes with the DeWalt tough system?

What do you want to know? It’s wide, but strong and sturdy. I have a sample that I use occasionally as a work dolly and less regularly for ToughSystem tool box transport. It’s built like a tank.

I moved some cast iron radiators with it; probably not the best choice but it worked without breaking

I was interested in seeing how tough the cart was. From the responses it sounds like the tough system cart does a good job. Thanks for everyone’s input. Now it is time to decide on purchasing some cases on sale.

I strongly second these guys. I bought mine 4-5 years ago for a job rebuilding 50L explosion protection tanks between 8 and 15 floors up on a massive coal silo and it worked phenomenally. I could strap two 50lb buckets of chem on the dolly foot, hung an open tote on the middle arms full of loctite, wrenches, hammers, gaskets and rebuild parts, maybe another 50lbs loaded, and then a ds150 with my hand tools and calibration stuff on the top arms. I’d also hang my 4-5 chain falls and come-alongs off the rim of the tote, and then stay stash the pieces of my floor jack arms, sleever bars, and short pieces of pipe/strut in the back rack sort of thing. I’ve used it to move my household 3 times since, moved sacrete, loaded buckets, and of course tons of my system stuff across all kinds of sites since. Last month I strapped a miniature power supply+breaker panel, probably 250lbs, and he-manned it over some berms. I bowed the axle a little when I hooked a strap to it, around and over a giant dresser once, but I flexed it back after, and it’s never given me issues. The rubber handle grip with be able to spin after some age or a good winter, and while I haven’t broken an arm ever, I don’t try to test them when it’s getting cold.

I have two of this. One came with Dewalt mechanical tools, the other one from flexvolt circular saw. Many time it is better choice than the bigger one, because the bigger one is too deep for any of my tools.

Should I consider ds450 mobile toolbox with a wheel instead of ds400xl?

I think DS300 + DS450 mobile toolbox will be a great combination instead of two xlarge boxes….

I have all of them. If you just need to organize stuff in garage, get two big boxes. The one with wheels is a must if you need mobility. However, it is not very good when mounting on racks.

I have a slick deals alert setup and have gotten many of the toughsystem products for really cheap via home depot and amazon. I can’t explain it but when I see them pop up cheap I stock up. Kinda have too many right now

I buy 2-4 of the toughsystem ds150 cases and the clear lid organizers each time they go below $20 and the ds400 xl size box when it goes below 30. At $30 this is a deal but not quite in the range that makes the credit card tingle. I really wish that I had a few of the large box instead of just the extra large, but I can’t bring myself to buy it for more than the bigger box. I’ve been picking up the racks and cart on local clearances.
Like JR3 said, slickdeals alert, home depot in stock alert on the model that sells for cheap.

We need some tstak/versastack killer deals! Where they at? I did get a couple of the single drawer units on amazon for $24.99 the other day.

Lowe’s has versastack stuff on sale for a little discount. Nothing earth shattering like the 20% off mid year.

I own a couple of the carts/tower stacks from last year and they’re great for your large tools but I wouldn’t use the tough system over the tstak for on-site use like trim, cabinet installs, etc.
