New Dewalt ToughSystem Tool Tote

Dewalt ToughSystem Tool Tote

Earlier this month, thanks to a tip from Pat, we wrote about the new Dewalt ToughSystem organizer that’s soon coming out. Pat also mentioned having seen that a new tool tote was coming out, but I couldn’t dig up any info or imagery of the tote.

Pat wrote in again today and shared more information and an image of the new Dewalt ToughSystem tool tote. Although the tote looks simply designed, I can’t help but think about how much I could use something like this!

The new ToughSystem tote has a large centered carrying handle, and two side handles. It can be connected to other ToughSystem tool boxes, both on the top and the bottom. That means that this need not be your bottommost or topmost ToughSystem case.

It offers a single wide open storage compartment that looks inviting for all the sorts of tools and supplies that you might have trouble fitting into a lidded tool box. Dewalt gave it a load rating of 20 kg, or about 44 lbs.

Price: ~£36 excl. VAT. (~$55)

If, or probably when, this is released in the USA, I would expect for the price to be around $45. Since it doesn’t need a top lid, weather sealing, or metal latches, it should be a little less expensive than the large ToughSystem case. Or at least that’s what I’m hoping and predicting.

In case you missed it, here’s more of my Dewalt ToughSystem tool box coverage:

Update: It’s now available in the USA, Dewalt DWST08205, for around $35, but doesn’t come with a top handle.

First Thoughts

Yes, please! I’d totally keep one of these in the car for holding random stuff. Jumper cables, glass cleaner, paper towels, gloves, and other stuff that typically just floats around the trunk Maybe it’ll join Milwaukee’s 13″ tool box for baby gear duty.

I’d also use another for things like extension cords or larger cordless tools that are tough to wrestle into Dewalt’s large ToughSystem case. The extra large ToughSystem tool box could fit a lot more than the large one, but it’s also a lot larger and bulkier to carry around.

Although I think we might see a $45 price tag, I’m hoping to see this near the $35 point. This is all wild guessing, but I don’t think we’ll realistically see it sell for much less than that.

Despite my initial “I want one of these” feelings, I can’t really visualize how this would be used with other ToughSystem tool boxes. It could be stacked together with a small ToughSystem case or maybe the new clear lidded small parts organizer, but that’s about it. Have you ever carried two fully-loaded large ToughSystem tool boxes? They’re awkward if not heavy to tote around.

I could envision lots of ways to use this new ToughSystem tote, but for most if not all the ways I imagine it, the tool tote would be used by itself. Or maybe a short stack of ToughSystem cases is carried in one hand, and this in the other.

It seems to me that you could slide this onto Dewalt’s carrier rails, just like you could any other ToughSystem tool box. This functionality is typically built into the side handles.

Could you see yourself using this as part of a ToughSystem setup, or by itself as a standalone open-topped tool tote?

I think I could see this only be used in a stack while on a dolly. Looks just like the ridgid box lol

that was my first thought as well. it could be stacked on top of the dolly for the odds and ends or if you need to bring an extra tool .

Seems like this is a response to Ridgid’s tote. I could see these being used for miscellaneous tool or attachment carry on a site. Although I think I would still prefer a soft tool tote for working around inside a finished home.

Stuey, long term update, have you decided if you like the other Dewalt Tough tool boxes or the Ridgid tool boxes better for durability and functionality?

No new thoughts about Dewalt ToughSystem vs. Ridgid Pro.

If money’s not a concern, ToughSystem all the way. If I’m a tighter budget and need quantity at lower budget, then Ridgid.

The Ridgid tool boxes have their special features, ToughSystem tool boxes have theirs.

I haven’t bought any new Ridgid Pro tool boxes since that initial investment, but I have bought a couple more ToughSystem boxes when on sale at Amazon.

I love that Dewalt is putting some more attention in the toughsystem line. I’ll for sure be picking up a couple of these. One for my shop vac attachments and maybe another for misc corded tools. I’m still kind of surprised Dewalt doesn’t have more accessories for the toughsystem line they usually love the accessories. I’d love to have a toughsystem caddy for my DWV012 vac and maybe some inserts, tool holder or dividers. I used wood now but that weight adds up fast.

It depends on the dimensions. I don’t know what they are, but it could be a good “trunk” case. Keeping items in the back of the car/SUV, etc.

Speaking of “trunk organizer”, does anyone have any suggestions for that? I’d rather not spent excess money on something that is going to stay mostly stationary and sit in the trunk. My wife got a new car, and I would like to buy something fairly compact for her. I’ve put together some supplies, mainly for cleaning, but don’t have anything to put them in. It would be fine if it held a few spray bottles, a roll of shop towels, and maybe even a compact tool set at some point (like the $20 auto supply store special I have…great deal for a few cheap hand tools, some sockets, and storage container.)

I also have some other tools I’d like to find storage solutions for. Most of my power tools are in hard plastic containers (that they were originally sold in.) I’ve used older containers for a couple that didn’t (like an oscillating tool or sander). I have a biscuit joiner that is about 17″ long that I currently have in a reusable grocery bag. That needs to be updated. I also just bought the M12 vacuum and would like some sort of soft bag for that, especially since it comes with several attachments that could get lost very easily…

I have a long collapsible organizer that I bought a few years ago. It’s good, but takes up a lot of space. Sure, it can fold down, but its size makes it a hassle to move and stow out of the way. I used to keep a tool bag in the back, but that’s not suitable for anything other than small hand tools and supplies. I’d be curious to see what other people use too.

I used to have a small bucket, which is kind of trashy. Now I just have a stack in the corner consisting of a 4-way lug wrench, mini air compressor, jumper cables, and a small tool kit. It’d be nice to have a better solution, but it’s not a huge deal.

I keep all car detailing products in my garage, but my wife wants to keep a couple bottles in her new car. I would love to figure out what to get. Any of those “trunk organizers” or the like I’ve seen at stores like Wal-mart are either kind of the cheap collapsible type or they’re nothing more than an overpriced plastic tub. I saw one without any compartments for $20 dollars that looked like someone sawed the top half off a plastic tub and sold it without the lid, although they did cut a couple holes for handles… Actually something like that would work, but it must have some compartments so it’s not all just thrown together with bottles laying on their sides.

Have you thought of using a milk crate? It should fit all your stuff. I used to keep one in the back of my Jeep Cherokee. It held my jumper cables, flashlight, tools, and paper towels.

Regarding the Tough System Tote: I already want two or three! One for cords and air hoses, one for lights, and one to put my small compressor in. When I use the L-Cart, anything I put on the bottom platform bounces off. If I put my Senco compressor in the tote, then hook it on the arms, it should stay in place.

I waited until now to order 2 totes and as Joe said no top handle. I have made several attempts to connect DeWalt to find out more information. I still love the Toughsystem but would just like an explanation of “Why” the missing handle in the US model. Any ideas who to contact? As far as price it has been between $29 and $35. But you can find deals using promo codes and sales.

That’s weird. I didn’t even know it was available in the USA yet.

After finding it (USA model DWST08205), I also see that it is sold without the handle. Very weird.

Maybe because they anticipate users will stack them? I have no idea.

The European version has a collapsible handle so you can still stack binary on top.

…bins. You can probably get one with the top handle shipped here to U.S. from EBay U.K. for about the same price .

Nothing says professional like showing up at job sites with milk crates full of tools. They stack great and stay together well…especially if you plastic wrap them together like delivery men do . Keeping them on hand trucks is really easy over rough terrain and stairs too, with bungees (or said plastic wrap) … Oh wait, I can lock this dewalt tote to other toughsystem boxes I have?… It even slides securely on my dewalt tool carrier/dolly in seconds for quick portability from one work area to another??… Whoa…No more bungies securing tool loaded milk crates to hand trucks… score!!!… But hey, if all you want is a box, then there are cheaper options then even milk crates…

While I agree about the tote I don’t understand why Dewalt left of the center handle.
Also I see European market have more options than USA.
