Dewalt will soon be expanding their modular Tstak tool box lineup with a removable bin organizer, deep tool box, and a rolling cart/trolley.
While we prefer to use Dewalt’s ToughSystem cases (here’s our review) and Bosch’s L-Boxxes more than the Tstak system, Tstaks are well made and offer most of the same functionality at a more affordable price point.

All three products are expected to become available in the USA and Europe around April 2013.

We were initially disappointed to find that Dewalt’s new stackable organizers are not compatible with the Tstak system. When we asked Dewalt about this, they pointed out that the Tstak system offers several small parts and fastener organizer options.
Perhaps this organizer was already in Dewalt’s Tstak product roadmap, or maybe they just listened to users’ demands for a removable bin organizer with a clear lid. Either way, we’re glad to see this addition.

It’s like the Tstak II, only deeper. Seems like a much better fit for bulkier power tools, although it is unclear whether you can fit a circular saw in there. Maybe a cordless saw at the least?

I was originally very impressed with the tstak size and functionality but seeing this version of the organizer I’m very disappointed. So much of the box is taken up by the latches that the actual storage space is limited, it’s very inefficient. Compared with the Dewalt/Stanley organizers which have storage for edge to edge. It will be interesting to see these newest boxes live but based on the pictures I’m very unimpressed with the form factor. I am a huge Dewalt fan and would also lean towards the Toughsystem storage.

It kills me that the availability of these is unknown in the US. I have some of the FatMax stackable organizers (awesome) and some DeWalt Toughboxes (mostly great but too expensive). But it would be really handy to have my boxes and storage systems all be compatible and fit in the same size slots in my tool trailer. I’ve been working on storage and organization so I’ve been watching the rollout of the Tstak line and it seems really unorganized. Put a workable system together and then get it out there!

As far as availability is concerned, I suppose that maybe Dewalt is building up more stock to be able to launch the Tstak line at one or perhaps more big box home improvement stores. This could possibly explain why the Tstaks are presently only available via a handful of online distributors.
Or perhaps they were waiting for a more complete lineup, including a rolling dolly, before they brought the line to big box retailers.

Perhaps you’ve done this somewhere in the past – I’m a lurker, new poster – but how about showing us your garage/shop? In your DeWalt/Bosch tool box write-ups, you’ve admitted to having at least 24 of each box. I see you’re also a contributor to [garagejournal.com], which I also frequent. With all the tools/boxes etc. you’ve accumulated, your man-cave must be both large and magnificent! We need a tour!!

No garage, and my fixed “shop” consists of a small spare bedroom. Half of my Tough System cases are in the unused bathroom, the other half are in off-site storage. For dustier operations I head outside or to my parents’ backyard 40 miles away.
It’s not magnificent, but I don’t let it stop me (too much).
My Festool dust extractor allows me to work with wood indoors, and for larger operations I bring my air cleaner in from storage.
An relatively new industrial vac will allow me to work easier with plastic and metal, at least on a small scale.
Less used tools, mainly larger benchtop power tools, have been moved to storage, but some will be brought back if I can manage to clear out some of the less used equipment currently stored in the unused bathroom.
I am in the process of rearranging everything to allow for easier video production. That means more trips to and from storage during projects with unanticipated needs, but I usually know what I will need in advance.
Anyways, I do plan on taking around-the-room photos once I’m done with the new configuration and with clearing out the clutter. I can also show or describe what’s kept off-site, but everything is in industrial bins, Tough System cases, or wrapped with black garbage bags (larger benchtop tools).
I used to have a lot of ball bearing chests, but gave them all away.
Looking around, there are three roll-away cabinets, a wire shelving rack with 30 16″ x 12″ x 6″ plastic bins, 36 Bosch L-Boxxes, about half purchased and half graciously provided by Bosch, 7 Festool Systainers, 4 Festool Sortainers provided by Festool for testing and review, and a stack of half-full Tstaks that I’ve been testing. In the middle is a small IKEA cabinet and Gladiator 4-foot workbench that I’ve been testing (it’s amazing, by the way). Closets are full of bins with tools and supplies (not for much longer).
Once I’m caught up with reviews I plan to do an extensive “show and tell” where I showcase all of the tools I’ve purchased for personal use.
