I checked, and it is – the Dewalt DW735X woodworking planer kit, which comes with the planer, infeed and outfeed tables, and a replacement set of knives, is currently on sale at Amazon for $500 with free shipping.

The $499.88 price is a hair over Black Friday 2019 pricing of $499.00, which was the lowest price I have ever seen on this planer combo. A good price on this planer is usually $525 to $575, and that’s typically after a $25 off $100+ promo or similar. $500 is a great price, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it priced lower than $499.00.
You can refer to our post history of DW735X deals, as a historical price record or for helpful reader commentary. Online price trackers show that the price of the combo kit dipped to $499 at Amazon during Black Friday weekend, and that its price before and since then has been ~$550.
Other retailers have this planer combo at $649 right now.

Frankly, I don’t think we can expect to see this planer bundle priced any lower than this, at least not anytime soon. This is the second time I have ever seen the price drop down below $500. Right now, the DW735 planer, which doesn’t come with the infeed and outfeed tables or spare blades, is priced at $549. As mentioned, other retailers have the DW735X bundle for $649 right now.
If you’ve been waiting for a good deal on this planer bundle, you might want to act quickly.
At this low price, and given the uncertainty of how long it’ll remain stable, it might be best to decide quickly whether to order one immediately, or wait for the next promo. The price might skyrocket if the planer sells out, or Amazon might honor the price on a certain number of backorders. Or it might remain at this price and in-stock inventory levels for a week or longer. My gut feeling says that the deal won’t last long, but that’s also not a high-confidence guess.

Just for context – home depot also have it at this price. It has been this price at both Amazon and Home Depot for ~a week now or more. I have been debating for the whole week whether I really want to spend $500 right now

This is a really good machine, but the only problem with it is that it is exceedingly loud, even with ppe. I ended up buying a little bit less capable, and slightly more expensive, machine (Makita) only because it was much quieter. I otherwise really like this Dewalt thickness planer.

I have a Makita at home – OK and somewhat quieter – but it seems (no absolutely scientific testing on my part) more prone to snipe that the Dewalts that we had for one business.

Switching to a helix cutter should help. There is a video of an older Delta that was 110db with the carbide blades and dropped to 90db with the helix.

I scored this package with the dewalt planer stand a year or so ago for $599 on one of Home Depots one day deals. If one were interested in a stand, that’s the only comparable or better deal I’ve ever seen on this planer.

Yup! $500 is the once or twice a year deal. $450-500 is the less than once a year deal (blue moon deal).

All the comments about noise- apparently the thing to do is get a shelix cutter head that more or less drops in… I plan to for next project.

I went and watched some YT vids for inspiration. Minimal dB differences. I think the shelix is just a better performance finished product and longer lasting. Noise level not a meaningful factor to spend hundreds extra.

I’ve had this planer for a few years now, it’s great. I think I paid 550 for it and was very happy. If you’re on the fence get it. I also ended up getting the mobile stand as well, it’s pretty solid.

your experience with it? I just cannot wrap my head around it costing more than the entire machine itself. Seems so stupid. Why don’t I just keep buying a brand new machine then every time?

The potential benefits of a Shelix head include 1) reduced
snipetear-out, especially in figured woods, 2) longer-lasting sharpness, 3) easier cutting edge rotation and replacement.The Shelix cutterhead is a premium 3rd party upgrade. It’s completely optional, and the added cost seems inline with how much it costs to step up from plain knives to helical-style insert cutters in larger woodworking machines.
You don’t have to buy a Shelix head, and many (most?) DW735/DW735X users don’t, but it’s great to have the option.

It is a premium upgrade. A big draw for me was that there are no worries about sharpening or replacing knives – just rotate individual cutterhead(s). It is a little quieter and snipe is reduced.
It is expensive but for me, worth the cost.

I got this for free when I bought a guys woodworking shop and sold off the other tools. Actually got this, and a bench top drill press and made $100.
Nothing beats a local deal.
