Matt write in about today’s “deal of the day” at Amazon: FYI, Dewalt power tools are Amazon’s Gold Box Deal of the day. Best pricing on a lot of these tools that I have seen in a while!
I took a look and… wow, these really are great prices.

- Dewalt 20-inch Scroll Saw: $369, street price of $500
- Dewalt 6.5A Plate Joiner: $130, street price of $190
- Dewalt 1.25 HP Variable Speed Compact Router Combo: $135, street price of $180
- Dewalt 2-1/4 HP Variable Speed Fixed Base Router: $117, street price of $160
- Dewalt Heavy Duty Heat Gun: $85, street price of $120
Since I don’t know what the “before” prices were, I listed the “street” prices, or the price that most other authorized dealers are selling the same tool for.
Buy Now(via Amazon)
These prices are valid all day 9/16/2015, until 3:00am ET 9/17/2015, unless supplies run out sooner.
All 5 of the specially priced tools are popular and seem to be very well-regarded amongst users.
I’ve used that scroll saw before, and think highly of it. Judging by how many woodworkers use it at the Woodworking Show, it seems to be extremely well favored. I have also used the compact router before, and think very highly of it as well.
I don’t think there’s much left for me to say. Go, check out the sale, and if one of these tools is on your wishlist, think quick about whether to pull the trigger.

Thanks to Matt for the deal tip!

We bought a 2 of the Dewalt compact routers when they first appeared on the market in 2010 – and found them to be very handy. Like many other routers – an edge guide is a separate item (DNP618) – and the one sold is not very strong as I recall. There is a good clear smaller sub-base (DNP613) available as well dust collection adapters (DNP615) that works with the fixed base and one (DNP616) that works with the plunge base. I’ve tried the DNP615 and it was just OK with dust collection – and kind of got in the way of line-of-sight.
The DW682 is also a solid performer – perhaps not up to the precision of the Lamello’s we had on the job – but way lower in price. I bought one, for personal use, back in the 1990’s and continued to use it on and off (enough to have to replace the blade with a Freud FI102) . I have mostly replaced it (in 2013) with a Festool Domino XL which I’ve adapted (thanks to parts from Seneca Woodworking) to handle all size Domino’s. Nonetheless, I can highly recommend it.
I also did a lot of looking at scroll saws about 8 years ago for me and my wife’s use – settling on a 22 inch Hegner – but really looking hard at the Dewalt. We really like the Hegner that we bought – but it was way more expensive – and I wonder some times if we would have been happy with the slightly smaller Dewalt leaving over $1000 in the bank.

the router and heat gun are calling my name I think. Especially if the heat gun comes with all that hardware. I mean I might not use half of it – but might as well right.

I’m on a mobile phone today so I can’t check today, but if you have the camelcamelcamel plugin for your browser, you can see the history of most any item on Amazon

I got the mini router kit for 127 at one point….typical Amazon price bouncing + 25.00 off DeWalt promo just happened to line up. If you are in the market now and need it in the near future, Id bite at 135 without hesitation.
Its a nifty little router and at the time was the only one with a real plunge base (Bosch Colt had one but wasnt as nice as the DeWalt)

Same here. Last December I picked up the heat gun kit for ~$79 on Amazon when the deals lined up. It’s a nice kit, highly recommended.

The Bosch Colt – because of its different bases – is probably a better tool if you do mostly laminate trim work – not requiring really dedicated routers (like Betterley modified PC and Colt routers) . The Dewalt is a better deal as a general purpose router – unless you need the capabilities of a 3HP machine.
I also get amused by Amazon’s price volatility – and have noted that some (especially lower priced items that are not part of the “add-on-program” sometimes seem to have the cost of shipping built into the price. I was recently planning on doing some Euro hinge/system cabinets for one of my kids and recalled that we used Fastcap tapes that facilitated the work. So I Looked on Amazon and found the PMMR-True32 priced at about $12 – was just about ready to order it – then looked at an old inventory and saw that we had bought them for about $6. Sure enough a local supplier is selling them for $6.95.

If you want to buy one of those tapes from FastCap directly, it’s $8.75 plus $13.52 ground shipping via UPS, or $7.09 via USPS (higher for Priority).

Amazon bakes the shipping fee into some products, but sometimes the final price is still lower. Right now it’s $10.90 there.

A local supplier won’t charge you shipping when you buy something in-store, but I’ve never seen these in-store. Even if an online retailer matched the $6.95 price, I doubt they’d be able to ship it for less than $4.
Amazon’s pricing is indeed crazy though.
I do like that some items are now part of the “add-on” program, requiring a minimum order charge, because it means more reasonably prices.
Now as part of the add-on program, Stanley’s technician screwdriver (https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/stanley-4-in-1-pocket-screwdriver/%3C/a%3E%29 is usually priced between $2.79 and $3.99. I remember when it used to be higher.

This is the local store in Bohemia NY that sells the Fastcap Tapes:
As you say – If I had to get them ship it to me – then the cost would have been much higher.
