Will there be a better deal?
I don’t think so – this is a very hard bargain to beat. There will be more table saw deals to come, that’s for certain. But if you ask me, I think these are the best Dewalt DW745 table saw deals that we’ll see. The deals change year to year. There might be promos on the DWE7480 again this year, but even if so, it’s a higher-priced model.

In this size saw – saying it has no Dado compatibility (arbor length too short) might be a good thing. Unfortunately table saws are one of those tools that demand respect and that their operators should be trained in their use. An inexpensive table saw (you can buy ones for just over $100 at HF with a coupon) might suggest to untrained amateurs that they can and should join the table saw club. Whatever you may think about the inventor and patent holder for the Sawstop technology – it came to be in good measure because of table saw injuries and accidents – some of which are pretty horrific. Dado sets do not improve saw safety – and in fact I understand that they are banned as being unsafe in the EU.
My first encounter with a table saw was in one of my mother’s uncle’s shop – and he took the time to instruct several nephews in its safe use. My use of the tool in High School Shop (seemingly all but vanished) was more listening and learning some more from the shop teacher – not unlearning bad practices conveyed by my great-uncle. Since those years in the late 50’s and early 60’s, I’ve used various table saws – and dado sets to good effect – and without injury. But that does not mean that I’m smug or complacent about their use. I take every cut that I make seriously – not wanting to mess up the project or myself.
Toolguyd readers who are new to this tool – and are contemplating buying their first one – would be well served by first getting some training in its safe use. Sorry for the sermon – but I hope it may help.

As far as training goes, I’ve found that user manuals are extremely in-depth, as far as safe operation goes. I cringe whenever I see contractors, DIYers, or YouTubers who use their saws improperly, riskily, or with the guards removed. All tools should be well respected, but table saws especially given the higher frequency of permanent irreversible life-affecting harm they can cause.

I’ve been using table saws for something like 25 years, and I’m still a little scared of them. It doesn’t bother me, because it makes me be even more cautious, which is a good thing. That said, I may well end up with a SawStop once I’ve got an actual shop to put it in.

The explanations about how kickback works is clear and simple. Worth a watch, though it’s not a substitute for proper training.

As someone who ran their hand into a table saw I can certainly say it sucks a big one. In my case I actually had the safety gear on… just a quick reminder that complacency is almost more dangerous than a lack of guarding!!!

The DW745 indeed has a 20″ rip capacity (it used to be 16″ and was upgraded a few years ago).

To me table saws are like band saws in a meat room. Must be dealt with with the utmost respect or you lose body parts.

And it’ll cause the saw not the slightest trouble.
A butcher shop I used to go to has a framed knife on the wall…in about six pieces. Someone left it on the table and it went through the bandsaw. Seems like a pretty effective safety remainder to me. If it’ll do that to a sizeable steel knife, think about much softer your fingers are.

I just bought (today) the Ridgid with rolling stand for $369. I think it’s a better deal on a really good saw. I think the table and fence on the Ridgid is better. The Ridgid also can use a (6″) dado and has 25″ rip capacity. Ridgid is also 5000RPM no load.
Sure the Ridgid deal is $70 more but I think it’s a far better saw. Also throw in a couple stocking stuffers, a Freud 50-tooth or higher blade, a GRR-RIPPER 3D Pushblock and a featherboard of your choosing. I’m thinking of replacing my Milescraft featherboard for a hedgehog.

The rack and pinion fence is one of the best features of the dewalt saws – and now the ones that have copied them. If you take the time to setup the table saw (there’s another thread on here about that) and you add on the minute to setup the fence. It’s rather handy.
Cost wise though I would still shop around for the 7480 and 7490 models that have dado capability. Wish dewalt would have put the dado insert in the box but that’s another gripe.
I also will say I can’t say enough about the X stand for this. It’s very handy for the guy that has to put up and take down in the garage. I don’t want to waste the room the rolling stands take up vs hanging the X stand on the wall
