Mosh and Josh wrote in about an early Black Friday 2018 tool deal on the Dewalt DWS779 12″ sliding miter saw. Thank you both!
The Dewalt DWS779 miter saw is a dual bevel saw, capable of making cuts of up to 16″ long on 2x material at 90°.

It’s similar to the DWS780, but lacks that pricier model’s LED shadow cut line guidance system. There could be other less obvious differences that we can’t see.
The DWS779 seems to have very good reviews, and it seems like deja vu to say it, but at this price (and possibly above it), it’s probably the best-featured pro-grade miter saw of its kind.
Price: $349

Buy Now(via Lowes)
This is the same price that it was for Black Friday last year. Lowes’ page says that the price is valid thru 11/14/2018, but if I had to guess, I’d say it’ll extend beyond that.

Flotsam
Looks like a great deal for a really nice saw!

I own this saw- the XPS light is the only difference between it and the 780.
Both are outstanding!
Mosh
I think you can add the XPS light
Stuart
I don’t think so – the XPS light has been discontinued for some time.
AngryDrumGuy
You can only add it if the 779 is Type 1.
Stuart
Hmm, Dewalt’s site says:
“The DWS7085 LED and DW7187 Laser are designed exclusively for the:
DW713 Type 1
DW715 Type 1 and 2
DW716 Type 1, 2, 3, and 4
DW717 Type 1 and 2
DW718 all Types
DWS782 none
DWS709 none
An XPS light comes already installed in on the DWS780 and the DW716XPS and cannot be converted to the DW7187 Laser
It is not recommended for use with any other DEWALT miter saw or any other brand of miter saw.”
Maybe the first generation of DWS779 came when the light was starting to be phased out?
John
I saw the $349 price on Amazon last weekend. It’s tempting.
Will the 779 accept an arbor laser such as the Oshlun one? I’ve had one on an older 705 miter for 20 years and a Makita 1221 for 10 years.
Stuart
You might have good luck asking Oshlun. Their site lists some models that it’s not compatible with, and I’m sure they’ve been asked about the DWS779 by now.
Nathan
Only difference is the XPS light and that’s one of the big features I want in a new miter
Not that I couldn’t live without it.

I was able to track down the parts to add the laser to my DW779 a few months back. I found them on erplacementparts.com
1 X Handle Set (624730-00)
1 X Work Light (N030317)
1 X Power Supply (N078832)
Looks like they only have one power supply left. You can find videos on youtube of people showing how they did it.

Here’s a video on how to rig up a LED to just about any miter saw. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHM8K-JS-Wk

I went to Home Depot yesterday to get this saw for $350 and walked out with a free DeWalt rolling stand as well. Not sure if that’s how it was supposed to be but it rang up with a $199 discount for the combo price and still kept the $350 price on the saw. There was a price sign with a $399 combo price and that’s what I thought I was getting but that’s not how it rang up.
