I posted about the new Craftsman Pro System Tower tool storage system yesterday, and since Facom – another Stanley Black & Decker brand – already has red-accented Dewalt ToughSystem tool boxes in their storage line, I figured it made sense to include some of those images.
Facom also has some unique-to-them mobile tool storage cabinet and ToughSystem integrations, and so in my mind that seemed like an interesting direction Craftsman could potentially go in as well.

Given the seemingly strong interest in those Facom tool storage options, I thought maybe you guys would also be interested in seeing another line of Facom tool box options.
Facom actually has some very appealing tool storage products, but my personal experiences include their metal cantilever-style tool boxes and whatever hand tool organizational products came with some of their sets.
In this post, I’ll be showing you Facom “My Mobile Storage Solution” tool boxes. Yes, that’s really what they named this line of modular tool boxes and accessories – “My Mobile Storage Solution.”
Here’s their 3-drawer tool box, which features a metal frame with polypropylene drawer construction.

The Facom 3-drawer tool box has full-extension ball bearing slides, and has a set of 5 drawer dividers (1 lengthways and 4 cross-ways), with additional dividers available separately.
The tool boxes are stackable, and each drawer has its own safety latch. A padlock (6mm diameter max) can be used to lock the drawers from opening.
It also features 2 side handles and shoulder strap attachment points, and can also be mounted to the optional hand truck. This is true for their bi-material tool box as well.
The bi-material tool box is more of a traditionally-styled tool box, and it also features metal and polypropylene construction.
When open, you can place the removable tool tote on the lid for easy access. The lid has a maximum load rating of 5kg, or ~11 lbs.
The internal storage compartment features tool holders at the dies for screwdrivers and wrenches, and a dedicated storage slot at the rear for a hacksaw.
The top lid has a retractable carrying handle, side handles, and it comes with a detachable cushioned shoulder strap that can be used with the 3-drawer tool box.
The total load rating is 15 kg (33 lbs). The tool box measures 510mm long, or 21.7″, to give you an idea about its size.
And, on top of all that there’s a v-groove in the top lid for conveniently holding pipes or other such materials for cutting.
From the product video, it looks like the top handle is actually part of the removable tool tray. It’s said to have a retractable handle, and this makes sense in a way.
Given that there’s a hole in the top lid, this probably isn’t the type of tool box you’d want to leave outside in the rain for very long.
The image above also shows how the tool box mounts to the optional hand truck cart.
You can fit up to 3 tool boxes to the hand truck.
Or, you can use the bottom for bulk materials. There’s also a wire basket accessory that’s part of the Facom modular tool box system. The bottom folds up for storage, and the hand truck can handle up to 100 kg (220 lbs) of weight.
Facom’s My Mobile Storage products are all advertised as being made in France.
The Facom tool box system looks to be very efficiently designed, and although versatile, it’s obviously designed with hand tools or the smallest of cordless power tools in mind.
The product line has been available for quite some time now. I have not noticed any expansion beyond the core product offerings, and it seems unlikely that we’ll see any additional tool box options in the future.

How much do these tool boxes cost, and where can you buy them? I unfortunately have no idea!

As with the Ryobi and BluCave products, the Facom modular tool box system isn’t readily available here. Why not? Who knows.
The older Craftsman modular tool chest products, currently still available via Keter on Amazon, is almost similar in essence to the Facom system, but there’s likely a big difference with respect to price and quality.

When I saw the pic, I wondered what was in there to prevent tipping over like would happen the first moment I’d try it.

Remember, the box is made of metal and plastic, and so it likely has some heft to it. The lid also looks to open to a maximum angle that’s not quite 180°, which would reduce the downwards force and shift the center of gravity closer to the center of the tool box. They specify a max weight limit, which is likely to prevent tip-over.

It looks great. I’m sure as a Facom product it is top-notch and expensive. Custom foam inserts are the bees knees. The divider system looks clever – would allow reasonable density and custom configurations.
I would sooner Craftsman adopt the existing Toughsystem toolboxes though, rather than adding another line. Toughsystem could benefit from more options, configurations and accessories, cross-compatibility would be welcome.
I’m thinking of the Toughsystem 2.0 trays, for example, with custom foam cutout trays stocked with USA-Craftsman tools. 🤤
Maybe make the foam segments modular for even more awesomeness. That way I don’t have to buy a new XXX-piece set to get the custom aspect when I probably already own all those tools. I could just buy a component in a foam tray and throw my own hammer in the rest of the tray or whatever.
I also wouldn’t want a tool box system that’s less robust than Toughsystem (e.g. those three-drawer plastic units Stanley kits come in), but I also probably wouldn’t be willing to spend a bunch more for an even nicer system. Toughsystem works pretty well for what it is.

I like the screwdriver/plier holders on the inside of the main box. I’d love to see a box like this with holders to store a dozen or so pliers at least. I feel like vertical storage makes it easier to find what you need, which is probably why I prefer tool bags.
The trays down below for hammers, wrenches, sockets, parts bins, etc, make more sense to me. Some tool boxes have small parts bins in the lid, which is neat, but if the bin lids are not secure, and you open the main lid, everything can spill out.

That would be an awesome Toughsystem accessory – e.g. maybe make segments 1/3 the width of the Toughsystem box, then have at least screwdriver and a pliers segments plus an empty container option. A user could then mix and match them per their storage needs.
I would definitely buy that for the bottom level of my big Toughsystem box. If the segments were removable, you could take out your screwdriver tray while you worked on something – or easily transfer tools between a shop and mobile toolbox.

The three drawer unit looks like $161.83 at “Mister Worker” website. You choose your country’s currency in the page header. I didn’t check on shipping costs. Looks like Mister Worker site carries many Facom products. Looks like 65% of Facom tools made in Europe, 30% in Taiwan, 5% made in China.

Mister Worker orders shipped outside of Europe may be subject to trade tariffs. Which you pay to the courier it looks like, if applicable.

After initial excitement of spotting something you have not seen before, it always “hurts” to watch foreign diy shows and see brands that are mainstream in the US, offer extra tools and storage options there.
Do we not have a big enough market?

While I agree to some extent and I too wish we got some of these cool storage items we have to remember they do things differently over there. Stuff like: most work is done on site so mobile tool storage is a big deal. Big huge stationary tools are comparatively rare. They like battery powered jobsite coffee machines 🙂 but seriously Makita did or does make one.
Tool systems that would appeal to us tool organization nuts might not do well with main stream DIYers in the USA market.
Still we can only hope SB&D and otgers are reading this post and see there is a market for some of this stuff in the good old USA.

As storage solutions go, i’m finding great value in real small plastic storage totes. I see myself making some fixed & mobile storage units with these small totes. Very customizable indeed, and pretty cost effective. Labeling the clear see through totes will really add efficient tool storage. That said, there is still need for the tool companies modular storage units also.

This seems like a pretty well thought out layout. I like some of the storage concepts they use in their design, like the screwdriver & plier storage and the way the saw is tucked away.
Picture 5 brings up an interesting idea that’s not really fully fleshed out here, but might be a future idea for some manufacturer. That is having the storage incorporate some sort of a small work surface with integral clamping on top. If there was some sort of provision to allow a squeeze clamp to be attached it would be nice,

Some brands do have tool boxes with work surfaces, or work surface attachments, but for a tool box like this it might just add to the cost for all users with only benefits to some.
