Not sure if Amazon’s was limited, but there was some stuff under the power tools that appear to have been sold out. Not sure if when replenished back from *zon* direct, will they populate the ~limited selections~ on the Fathers Day promos.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the Bosch promo at Amazon. It looks like the discount was posted on deal-sharing sites, along with mention of how there was an additional $20 off $100 stacked promo, and so that’s why a lot of popular products sold out quickly.

The Bosch promo seems to have been suspended for the time being, in which case it doesn’t matter if they restock soon or not. Products they know they’ll be able to reorder will probably be listed as “available to ship in 2-4 weeks” or similar. Products that are eligible for promos while in stock are typically eligible for promos when available for backorder.

Wish there was a edit button…but to clarify for someone who’s not clear…there are products listed under the ~available for promo~ that is currently not listed there. Those said products is what is being discussed. I’m sure this is clear to Stuart…just wanted it to be clear to a passerby to the site.

Regarding an edit button, that’s only possible if I require everyone to register and login to comment, or if I were to implement a 3rd party commenting system that works off of Facebook or other social media accounts. Lack of an edit button seems to be the lesser hassle.

If a product is eligible for a promo and then isn’t, it’s usually because the featured seller changed from being Amazon.com, to a 3rd party seller, either because Amazon sold out or the 3rd party seller has it for a lower price.

In this case, it’s because the promotion appears to be suspended all across the board. Either the promo was short-lived, or was taken down temporarily in order for Amazon employees to modify the conditions.

No worries Stuart. Appreciate the Blog regardless.

Wanna do a backstory on how Amazon became to sell tools.
Back then, it was Toolcrib. I got some AWESOME deal promos back then.
It used to be something like buy 4 items, the lowest of X is free, and all sorts of good promos. When you called Amazon Toolcrib, u reached a live rep who was a real tool salesperson who knew tools. Alot of that has long gone, but there was something nice when they did have sales reps who were somewhat like talking to a B&M knowledgeable versed product rep.

I’m not sure they’d want to talk about it, but it does seem like it would make for an interesting story.

I’ve been shopping at Amazon for years, and fondly remember their Friday and weekend deals. They had crazy good deals back then, and then on random tools and brands for a few years. Now they’re still my go-to place for tools and accessories, and the deals are great, but not quite as crazy-good as in past years.

It looks like HD also have $25 off $100 for select Bosch products. I can’t find a way to list all the products qualified though. Maybe the same as Amazon. Here’s a product that’s valid on both sites with discount: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bosch-7-2-Amp-Barrel-Grip-Jigsaw-JS572EBL/203370182#

    Stuart:

Thought I’d pass along a Father’s Day Tool Discount deal that borders on being a scam, or at best a misleading way of doing business. Check out [http://www.napaonline.com/Savings/CurrentPromotions/Gearwrench]. I ran across this offer on GarageJournal.com and since it was a wrench set that I wanted and the price was great, I “reserved” the item. I assumed that things would work like many other consumer websites in that if my local NAPA store had the item, it would be set aside for me. If the store did not have the item, the “system” would send the store one (or more) along with its normal resupply and I would be called or emailed when it came in. In the case of the Father’s Day Sale, I presumed that the local stores would have a stock of the items in order to support the advertised sale.

Turns out that none of the above was correct. My local store, after considerable prodding, was able to find the “reservation” on their computer, but had no clue of what to do with it. They had no wrench sets in stock and no idea if any were in the pipeline. They offered to order the item, but assured me that there would be shipping charges and had no idea of how long it would take. I called the NAPA Atlanta corporate office and got pretty much the same story.

I recently got a “We’re sorry” email from NAPA, but no solution. They seem surprised that I expected them to actually provide the wrench set at the advertised price prior to Father’s Day.

I’ll provide an update if anything happens…

Lowes has some nice deals. Right now a 4 piece dewalt 18 powertool set for $199 and for next week $99 porter cable 20v drill or impact kits. Also the hitachi slidepack lithium drill and light kit for $99.

Those are pretty good deals. Dewalt 18V power tool combos have hit low price targets a couple of times now, probably because they’re taking up valuable shelf space that Lowes wants to give to the newer and better selling 20V li-ion tools. Still, NiCd tools are a great bargain for those that don’t really need the advantages li-ion batteries offers.

The Porter Cable 20V deal lasts through Monday. $99 for a well performing 2-battery drill kit or impact driver kit is highly appealing. My personal 18V drill/driver (Bosch) is still going strong, otherwise I’d jump on the PC drill sale.

UPDATE on my above NAPA/GearWrench/Father’s Day Special comments:

On Thursday, I called a second NAPA store in my local area to see if they had the wrench set. They said no, but they were trying to get them and would call me if they came in. Much to my surprise, they did come in on Friday and they did call me. And, the first store also called saying that they now had a set for me. So, both the local NAPA franchises came through when they finally got the sale items. Still have not heard from NAPA corporate…

That’s really good to hear, thank you for the update!

I have been trying to look into the issue further after seeing your first comment about how mangled the NAPA in-store fulfillment process is.

It’s easy to find all sorts of stories about in-store pickup at Sears and other stores, but there aren’t very many public complaints about NAPA. My feeling is that few people have taken advantage of NAPA’s reservation system, especially when buying tools.

It’s disappointing to know that their system is frustrating to work through, but great to hear that they did everything they could to come through with the Gearwrench sale items for you.

I’m glad it all worked out in the end. Thanks for sharing about your experience!
