Fein Entry-Level MultiMaster Kit

Fein MultiMaster 250Q Start Kit

Remember the surprisingly affordable Fein MultiMaster deal we posted about back in December? Fein just released a press release identifying the $200 oscillating multi-tool kit (FMM 250Q Start) as their new entry-level power tool package.

There’s a lot of marketing mumbo-jumbo in the press release, but the gist of it is that they subbed in a cheaper fabric tool tote for the iconic Fein-orange tool case, and slimmed down the number of included accessories. The 250Q MultiMaster itself is the same as the one included in the higher-priced tool kits.

The MultiMaster 250Q features a tool-free blade change, and accepts other brands’ universal oscillating tool blades and accessories.

We bought the so-called entry-level kit, which is normally priced at $200, during Amazon’s short-lived holiday sale, and don’t have even an ounce of buyer’s remorse.

I work at Home Depot and we have stocked those $200 Fein kits since a little before Christmas. I believe I have seen these starter kits sold locally elsewhere as well, so you shouldn’t even have to order it online, unless you find a better deal or prefer not to pay sales tax.

Why would anyone ‘prefer’ to pay Sales Tax ?

One could be willing to pay sales tax and buy locally in order to help provide employment in the local economy, support local and state government functions (like roads), avoid giving support to the inhuman sweat shop wage slave conditions common among online marketers–like Amazon), examine the item before purchasing it, and walk out with it immediately after purchase and use it the same day.

The issue is not the tool bag; it’s the tool. The Multimaster is the Mercedes Benz of oscillating tools. Compared the many imitators flooding the market at under $100, the Fein is an industrial-strength tool with more power and durability than competitors. I also have a Dremel version which we bought so we could keep the Fein on our boat. The Dremel is fine for small jobs, but it will get hot with heavy use. The Fein just cuts till the blade dulls or you are finished. BTW, I tossed the big plastic case that came with my tool. It took up too much space in my tool cabinet.
