Festool Drill Dust Collection Nozzle

In the comments of the Skil Dust Collector post, fred turned us onto the Festool Drill Dust Collection Nozzle. Like the Skil Dust Collector, this Festool version removes dust at the point of drilling. Unlike the Skil version, the Festool requires a vacuum both for sticking to the wall and collecting the dust.

If you are carrying around a portable vacuum anyway, you won’t have to worry about batteries or stopping to empty the dust bin. Or, you could probably use a cordless-powered vacuum too.

First some bad news: right now the Festool Dust Collection Nozzle isn’t available in the United States (yet?), but some retailers are allowing you to pre-order it for shipping June 1st, 2015. It also should be noted that this dust extractor is almost identical to the Starmix BohrFix, which isn’t available in the US either. The only real difference is the brand name that’s molded into it.

The nickel-plated steel drill sleeve will accept drill bits up to 12mm in diameter. When you turn on an attached vacuum, the suction is divided into two different paths, one to secure the foam rubber pad of the nozzle to the wall, and the other for removing the debris from drilling. Since you are using the power of a vacuum to hold the device in place, it can be used on the floor, walls, or even on the ceiling.

Festool claims the dust collection nozzle is compatible with all standard and domestic vacuums. The flexible joint can be positioned to move the hose out of the way, or it looks like it can be removed entirely, but it looks like you need this piece to be compatible with vacuums other than Festool’s own.

The Festool 500483 Drill Dust Collection Nozzle is launching at $21.

I’ve got one of these. There’s a guy about the interwebs that brings Festool stuff over the pond before it’s sold in the US. Though, I thought it was already available here.

Works really well. When using my Festool dust extractor, it holds very tightly and removes all the dust from drilling.

This sound s like a great way to kill your vacuum. Drywall dust+vacuum=dead vacuum. It’s fine enough to go through most bags

That assumes you’re using crap vacs.

Any high quality vac is designed for drywall type dust – Fein, Festool, Clarke, Nilfisk, Wap, Alto, etc.

No issues whatsoever; of course you do use the bags as well as the filters.
