Festool 100 Off Trade-in Event Fall 2018

Our friends over at Festool Products (a retailer run by Tool Nut) tipped me off about a new “Trade Up” promotion they thought I would be interested in sharing. Ktash also emailed in about the promotion (thank you!).

Here’s how it works: First, you purchase a new Festool power tool, from among select plunge-cutting saws, circular saws, and routers. then, you register your tool at Festool USA. They send you a pre-paid shipping label, and then you send them your old trade-in tool to Festool. After a few weeks, they’ll send you a $100 prepaid Mastercard.

ANY tool qualifies for the trade-in. Examples say that you could send in a tape measure, or even a Harbor Freight screwdriver. It doesn’t even have to be functional, since Festool is accepting tools of any brand or condition.

Festool doesn’t discount their power tools, unless you’re buying them as part of an MFT table or dust extractor package.

Even rebate programs are rare for them.

While it’ll take a little more effort to get in on the savings, the trade-up process seems pretty simple, and they even pay for the shipping label for the trade-in item.

Eligible Festool tools:

  • TS 55 Track Saw
  • TSC 55 Cordless Track Saw
  • HK 55 Cross-Cutting Track Saw
  • HKC 55 Cordless Cross-Cutting Track Saw
  • OF 1010 Router
  • OF 1400 Router
  • OF 2200 Router

Shop Now(via Festool Products)

If you’ve been on the fence about or saving up for one of the tools eligible for this promo, it doesn’t get better than this.

Promo ends 10/31/2018.

Update

The offer has been extended retroactively, to August 1st, 2018. Any eligible tools purchased between August 1st, 2018, and October 31st, 2018, will be eligible for the promo!

So you’re saying that if we here all chip in for your next full price purchase we’d then be able to plan for their next otherwise unforewanrned Sale?
      Cool.

Similarly with Home Depot, they still haven’t locally stocked any Dewalt 20 volt 12 mAh batteries. If I were them, I’d ditch all those niCad batteries and make more enough for 20V series. Especially since Acme Tools seems to be the only authorized merchant that is currently selling this.

While I am not corporate businessman myself, I’d rather have the opportunity to make profit. These aren’t cheap batteries and are worth every penny if you tools for a living.

I don’t think it matters where the tool is purchased from, as long as it’s a new tool from a regular dealer.

With all things being equal, I have had great experiences ordering from Tool Nut/Festool Products. Unless I have a gift card for somewhere else, I needed something quicker (e.g. with Prime same-day or 2-day shipping), or can think of another reason to go with a different retailer, I’d probably personally order from Tool Nut/Festool Products.

Note that while Tool Nut/Festool Products is an affiliate of ours, so is Acme Tools, Amazon, Rockler, and probably one or two other Festool dealers that are less top-of-mind for me.

I always try to order from the online places that also have brick and mortar stores within what had been my businesses territories (parts of CT, MA, PA, NJ and NY). AW Meyer, Coastal Tool, Burns Tools, Tools-Plus were some of the folks we dealt with. Tool Nut was in our area – but don’t recall ever having many (if any) dealings with them. There were others too that we dealt with when we needed something for a local job. Some were better than others – and there are some that I’d hesitate to recommend. One good thing about some of them that stock a lot of what they sell – is that a stop by – lets you put your hands on a tool to see how it fits.

        AW Meyer comes to mind:

Didn’t Bosch just release their Mafell track saw clone in the US? Something to consider.

There has been some talk that Mafell is making the saw for Bosch – and some say that the saw does indeed look like the Mafell:

If I were replacing my Festool TS55 – I might be looking at a cordless Mafell for comparison:

That is an amazing saw. I’m in South Africa and I got one about 18 months ago. Powerful, tracks are dead easy to attach together and if you want, it will ride on the Festool track (think MFT3 here).

Interesting that it can be any tool. Probably saves them money in the long run if most people send in a screwdriver. Less to ship/recycle/trash!

Less postage too on a 2mm hex key – than on some old clunker power tool

We may be wrong. Here’s what I got in an email from US Tool & Fastener:

“Starting today, when you purchase a new 55 Saw or Plunger Router, trade in one of your old power tools and Festool will send you a $100 prepaid MasterCard! ”

but then under FAQ’s they say:

“What tools qualify for the trade-in?

Any old tool qualifies. We heard of someone turning in a screwdriver!

I just recently bought a saw or router. Can I still send in a tool for the rebate?

Yes, as long as the saw or router was purchased after August 1, 2018.

Is there a limit of submissions from a customer?

No. It’s one trade-in per purchase, but there is no limit on how many tools you can buy.”

          From Festool Products:

Send your old trade-in tool, even a screwdriver or tape measure qualifies, to Festool using the prepaid shipping label.

Festool prices were too rich for me when I was on the tools (in Australia) and now I am semi-retired (ha ha ha)* in Thailand I couldn’t justify the outlay even if they were available.

*Definition of: Semi-retired….I get Christmas day and the Kings birthday off!

If the rumour about the new Bosch saw being a rebadged Mafell is true I would be surprised. Lee Iaocca in his autobiography referred to his No 2’s comment when he suggested they create a cheaper version of their best selling car which was “Lee that is what we Polacks call pissing in our soup” and this is what the rumour suggests Mafell is doing.

Fein manufacturing an OMT for Festool makes sense in that it captures sales that they would not have made while their own product is not being undercut.

I believe the motor is made by Mafell, the rest of the saw is Bosch. Someone on the FOG opened their Bosch saw a few months ago and provided the details.

Does this mean Festool is coming out with new versions of the saws and routers? I can’t recall when the routers where last updated, but the saws seem to have been updated more recently.
