This Bosch custom case system impact screwdriver bit set is on sale for $10 on Amazon, which is $1 less than the “that’s a mistake” price I bought 2 sets for when it was first announced.
I like these bits, and am IMPRESSED with the case.
Buy the set, use the bits, and then either order refill packs, or load it with whatever other brand of 1/4″ hex insert and power screwdriver bits you want. This case is a keeper – from what I can tell so far.
If I didn’t already have 2 of these bits sets, I sure would have bought 2 right now.

There’s a Dewalt 40pc FlexTorq impact screwdriver bit set on sale at Amazon, for $20. It’s not the most varied assortment, but looks like a good “refill” assortment. Or maybe just a good reason to try Dewalt’s bits.
It’s on sale for $20, with other sellers listing it for $27 and up. I’m cautious to call it a deal, but it does look discounted from its regular price. I do like Dewalt FlexTorq bits, their power bits especially recently.
I’ve bought these before, will buy them again, but for reasons unclear to me, they’re just not my “favorites.” I’ve been buying more FlexTorq small bulk packs than assortments, recently.

The Dremel Micro cordless mini rotary tool kit is on sale for $69.
Seems like a good cordless complement to a full-size tool, or maybe even a good choice for a lighter duty user’s only Dremel rotary tool. Either way, $69 is a very good buy.

If you’re a Makita 18V cordless power tool user, you probably know how pricey spare or replacement battery packs can be.
Starting earlier this month, I think, I caught sight of this 5.0Ah 2-pack, on sale for $159. It’s normally $219. This seems to be a season-wide deal, or at least a prolonged deal. I was going to post separately about these battery packs, but this seemed like a good time and place.

This Worx WX429L 4-1/2″ compact circular saw is on sale for $49. It seems to have a regular price of $70 or so.
The biggest thing to watch out for, with tools like this, is being able to find and buy replacement blades. Rockwell also makes a compact circular saw of a different design. With both tools featuring the same blade size, and both tools being made by the same company, replacement blades look to be readily available.
This is a low-cutting capacity tool aimed at less demanding users, but sometimes that’s just what you need.

For any bicyclists out there, i noticed a Husky branded portable bike pump along with the other BF deals that looks like a knock-off of the Lenzyne i have mounted on my touring bike. It’s got a nifty design where the short hose fits inside the pump body until you need it and then you screw it on to the end of the pump to use it. That gives some range of motion when you pump, which is a real improvement on simple cylinder pumps. I can’t say how well this model works, but if it’s functional it’s a great deal at $10.

I have one of these in the garage, after purchasing it last week. It seemed like a good deal, but also seemed genuinely and generally handy.
I probably won’t make use of its high pressure capability, though, but that’s okay. It comes with a sports ball pin, and so I assumed that they intend for it to be used for general inflation tasks outside of road bike tires.

Does it have a low-pressure, high-volume setting (essentially a high gear?) Bike pumps are made to produce a tiny amount of high pressure air, up to 160 psi (on my floor pump). If you use it to, say, inflate a car tire, it will take frigging forever. (My floor pump happens to have a high gear, but lots of pumps don’t.)

Nah these are one-trick ponies, and they are too small to want to use for everyday maintenance of bike tire pressure (small cylinder=small volume pumped, ofc) but my Lenzyne is adequate for going from 0 to 90 without too much pain, and that wouldn’t be nearly as doable without the flexible hose that makes up part of the design. The other nice thing with this pump is that you attach either end of the hose to the pump body, depending on which head you want for the tire: presta or schraeder.
I’m really curious if this knock-off has got the manufacturing tolerances to reach skinny tire pressures.

Ah, okay. I guess you wouldn’t use any small hand pump to fill car tires, would you? But I suppose you could use to fill basketballs or something. That is, you could if it had a high-volume, low-pressure setting.
For cycling, I personally carry around those little CO2 cartridge guys. Maybe less reliable, but quicker and smaller. If I were a tourer, I might carry a pump.

I like the Bosch bit sets, but the older cases didn’t have the clear plastic front, and while the ability to see the bits with the case closed might be good, I’m pretty sure the clear plastic is not as strong/durable as the opaque blue stuff.
I guess some super glue, epoxy, or duct tape would fix it when you drop the case and the clear plastic cracks or shatters, but I’d still rather just have the front of the case made of the same more durable materials as the back.
And while I’m at it, it’d be nice if you could get additional bit holders for the case. They don’t seem to sell refill paks with the holders, just packs of bits. Kind of dumb to have a case with slots for four bit holders but only include three, because one uses longer bits.
Given the pricing i guess it’s not THAT big a deal, but just one of those annoying things about packaging.

That’s what impressed me most about these cases – the clear lid feels really, really strong. There’s no flex, and it simply feels rock solid, even impact resistant.
This doesn’t feel like an easily crackable material.
I doubt it’s indestructible, but it feels a lot better than I anticipated.

I don’t think I’ve used hilti’s grinders but would assume they’re a notch above the big 3 ( mak, mil, dew) based on the quality/durability of their their demo hammers and hammer drills.

I have a set of Dewalt bits i got a couple of years ago and I hate the case! It’s incredibly hard to get the bits back in to the slots. It’s a throwaway item.

In addition to scoring today with the Bosch bit sale today at Lowes, I learned something new. Within the Bosch bits, there was the regular PH2 bits, but there was PH2R & P2R2 bits too. These odd ball bits are combo Philips and Robertson bits, as I found out. Some resources said they reduced Philips cam-out. At first I was excited to think they were the equilivant of the JIS Philips type bits which definitely reduce cam-out….. but as I now understand it, I was wrong.
Interesting new additions to the normal bits I’m used to. I’d love to hear anyone’s experience with these bits and with JIS bits as well. I have always wondered why the JIS bits have never caught on in the USA, outside of the Japanese bike industry.

As you point out, there are other cross point drive styles that are different than the old-style Philiips. These include JIS as you point out, BNAE found on some French bicycles, Pozidriv (more common in Europe), Reed&Prince (aka Frearson), Sel-O-Fit and ECX to name some. There are also styles with ribs or grooves (Phillips owns the ACR trademark – and Bosch/Vermont American the Deckster trademark.

I have gotten to where I won’t use anything but a Bosch p2r2 bit. I buy them 30 at a time on eBay. They do not can out as easy, can be used for square drive and Phillips and will hold up to my DeWalt and Milwaukee impact drivers, although I do break them from time to time.
