About a year and a half ago we recommended Gerber’s EAB Lite as a no-frills lightweight utility knife. Our opinion hasn’t changed – the EAB Lite is still an incredibly versatile design for little coin. Gerber has recently come out with another version of the EAB Lite that features G-10 handle scales.
G-10 is a very hard and dense plastic composite material that is formed by heating layers of phenolic resin-soaked paper or fabric under pressure. You will also see G-10 described as a glass epoxy laminate.

Knife makers select G-10 for handle scales because of its high strength and lightweight properties. Often the handles will be textured, with grooves or a checkered pattern, to improve their grip.
Gerber only adds G-10 to one side of the EAB Lite handle, but the result should be improved grip and strength. All the other EAB Lite features carry through from the plain Jane model: stainless steel frame, large money or pocket clip, finger grooves, standard utility knife blade compatibility.

Retail price is about $13, and the plain Jane version is still around $10.50.
The EAB with G-10 handle isn’t as snazzy-looking as the Sinclair Cardsharp 2, but should still do the trick if you need a super-compact utility knife that can slip into your jeans’ coin pocket.

I’ve just got my EAB – plain version. Knife making is my hobby and I can tell that this is a very well made knife. Great design too. I think it is amazing that they can produce this kind of product for $10.
Stuart, does Amazon still gives you a referral fee or whatever they call it if I click on your Amazon “Buy Now” link but end up buying some other product? Like I did with this knife. I like “Toolguyd” and want to make sure it stays in business.

I got one of the older ones without the holes in the handle. Its a nice utility knife in a tiny package, but the only problem I had was there’s nothing for your thumb to grip except for the little screw for one handed opening. Add a thumb stud and it would be perfect.
