Gerber Gator Machete Pro

Gerber’s Gator Machete Pro, although unusually designed, looks to be a decent multi-purpose blade. It features a 10.5″ high carbon steel blade, Gator-grip rubberized handle, and nylon lanyard.

It also features a mold and mildew-resistant nylon sheath, built-in sharpening stone, and an unidentified corrosion resistant “superior steel” that is said to sharpen easily.

Gerber has decided to market the tool using the over-used Zombie-slashing angle, which makes it look like a less serious tool. What do you think? Versatile tool or tacticool accessory?

Now, if really backed into a corner by a zombie, would you prefer one of these machetes, or a Sog Tactical Tomahawk?

Pretty sure that tool was on The Walking Dead last night.
    Clever product placement.

Actually, I think that a number of Gerber’s cutting, slicing, and chopping tools will be featured in Walking Dead episodes.

It kind of looks like a modern khopesh, but with the hooked side sharpened as well. Also, the image on the Gerber site confirms it’s placement on the series.

That said, I think that the Gator Machete (either size) might be of better general usage for most people in most scenarios—zombie or otherwise—at under half the cost.

It’s identically sized to the Woodsman’s Pal (http://www.woodmanspaltool.com/), but I wonder how the steel and overall construction would compare to the venerable classic?..
