Joby-Gorillapod-Gorillatorch

Joby just announced their new Gorillatorch – a nifty looking hands-free flashlight/worklight, and boy are we excited. We’re huge fans of Joby’s Gorillapod ball and socket legged mini tripods, so naturally this got our attention.

The Gorillatorch is of course bendable and easily positioned. Its legs are composed from medical-grade ABS plastic and TPE rubber, and its feet are magnetic!

The Gorillatorch’s 65 lumen white LED is powered by three AA batteries, and its brightness can be controlled by a dimmer switch to extend battery life from 20 to 80 hours. The torch stands 8″ tall and weighs in at under 9 ounces.

The MSRP is set at $30-35, and we’ve already spotted it on Amazon available for pre-order. The Gorillatorch hits the shelves in September.

LOL that thing is from the future, like the year 2010 or something

While I can see where it would be handy. I would be knocking it over or across the floor every time I moved.

If it can support it’s own weight with the magnetic feet this thing would be super handy.
There have been times where I wanted something like this and ended up hacking up a 2 dollar harbor freight flash light and adhering it to a piece of flex tube to make a somewhat snakelight-look-alike, but this Gorillatorch light looks way nicer and much more usable.

I like the original tripod. Although I don’t own one, I can see how the adjustable legs can conform to almost any surface and wrap around objects like tree branches, bars, or anything that it can wrap its legs around for hold.

Nice design and would be exceptionally handy when working underneith a vehicle. I might have to try one of these out.

I’m curious about the light quality. If it’s like the typical cheap “white” LEDs, then it’s got a strong blue tint to it.

The bad thing about that is that it’s difficult to see (1) the details of what you’re looking at and (2) subtle differences in color of what you’re looking at.

Try reading fine print under a “white” LED compared to a standard incandescent bulb and you’ll know what I mean.

    LED lights are often overated.

Cool. It’s like the helping hand devices you see for electronics. It would be nice if it had attachments of alligator clips, magnifying glasses, or a small clamp for holding tiny objects.

    Hi!

I would like to know if the gorilla torch with bending legs and magnetic feet is available and how much it costs? Have had trouble finding it.

    Thanks so much!
