I’ve got a workmate that was my father’s and use it regularly. It’s amazing how useful it is. if you don’t already have a Grizzly Mini Workbench or a Workmate, get one – you won’t regret it.

I’m very interested in this. Being an apartment dweller, space is at a premium for me. I often use my kitchen table for projects with a scrap board put down to protect it. This looks like it would raise my work surface to a more comfortable standing height, add some benefits like the clamps and dogs, and still keep my table protected. I like it!

Jim–I went to the Lee Valley site and saw the wall-mounted workbench you referenced. There are several problems: It is wall-mounted, something your apartment manager would frown on as it will leave large holes in the wall when you move. The apartment dweller likely doesn’t know what’s behind the wall chosen to hang this on. He might tap into something he shouldn’t, like a water supply line or electrical conduit (also reasons for a frowny face from the manager). Your next-door neighbor probably won’t appreciate you drilling on, sawing on, chiseling on or banging your hammer on a project at any time of the day or night. It’s just my view, but I suspect this was designed for a homeowner with minimal space in his garage or basement to work in, not for an apartment dweller.

I have what looks to be an identical model sold under the Wolfcraft name and colors, but I’m not seeing it on their website right now. I purchased it a year or more ago for $10 at Menards thinking it would be a nice little tool for my wife to use for some of her crafts. It’s really only good for small scale work, but it’s not too bad when used for that. I wouldn’t pay $20+shipping for it, but at $10 it wasn’t a bad purchase.

I used to like to make a stop at the Grizzly showroom – near the Lycoming Mall in Pennsylvania – when one of my kids was at Penn State. While its not exactly a tourist destination – if you’re anywhere nearby its worth a visit

So i checked the amazon link on the B&D workbench, which I’ve seen at the stores, but the reviews were mixed. When I searched for portable work bench this “Keter” branded portable work table came in as the #1 seller with stellar reviews have you seen one in person? Could you review it?

I briefly discussed the Keter workbench a while back (https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/keter-folding-work-table/%3C/a%3E%29, and while it looks interesting, I don’t think I will be reviewing it in the near future.
At the $50-$75 price range, I would probably go with the Keter as well, although it does things a little differently than the Workmate. I have had great experiences with their tool boxes and organizers, and don’t doubt that the workbench is well made.

I have two of the original Mini Black and Decker Workmates they discontinued in the early 1980’s I believe? Looks similar to the Grizzly but much more heavy duty. I found both mine at a garage sales 4-5 years ago. They are very handy and I keep one of mine in the garage for quick outside work and one in my pickup truck box. Always have people asking where they can get one and I have to tell them unless you know someone with a time machine…lol Again, they look much more heavy duty than the Grizzly and I am surprised Stanley Black and Decker doesn’t try the market with them again?
