Guess How Long to Drill 34 6-inch x 24-inch Holes in Concrete

6-inch Concrete Core Hole

Over at CopTool there’s a brief post about how a team of 3 people core-drilled 34 deep holes in a slab of concrete.  So how long does it takes to drill 34x 6″ x 24″ holes in concrete? 10 hours, and that’s with two drills running in parallel!

The 10 hours includes setup, leveling, and cleaning operations, with the cutting process itself proceeding at about 2 inches per minute.

To put things into perspective, core-drilling a 6″ hole is like cutting a rectangular concrete slab with a 18.85″ linear edge. That’s a big cut.

Stuart–Hi; I didn’t see this until today. A standard 6 x 12 weighs about 30 pounds, and this is twice that length (6 x 24); it should weigh approximately 60 pounds. Just be sure to get someone to help move it from point A to point B to save your back. Better yet, roll it on the ground if you don’t have to move it far. I used to work in a concrete test lab and had to move a lot of 6 x 12 test cylinders, as well as concrete core that was shipped in from the field.
