Harbor Freight Black Friday 2015

Nov 2, 2015 Stuart 20 Comments

If you buy something through our links, ToolGuyd might earn an affiliate commission.

The I already posted about how Amazon kicked off their 2015 holiday sales season with a couple of tool promos and discounts. Several other retailers have done the same.

As for Black Friday deals, I came across Harbor Freight’s 2015 ad scan a little too easily. If I remember correctly, the Harbor Freight Black Friday ad scan was first to be released last year too.

I have only stepped foot into Harbor Freight once ever, and I only ordered from their website once. But I can understand the appeal – they offer cheap tools and also some surprisingly good bargains, from what I’ve heard.

Here’s what everyone is saying are HF’s 2015 BF ad scans:

Harbor Freight Black Friday 2015 Adscan 2

HF stores will open at 7am on Black Friday, which is 11/27/2015.

Does anything catch your eye?

I believe that the US General tool cabinet continuously gets good reviews as a high bang for the buck tool storage base, and the $8 furniture dolly costs less than I could buy one caster for.

The problem with US General tool boxes on black Friday is they are first come first serve (in my local experience). These are typically the bottom tier prices for HF, so they go fast.

I generally eschew Harbor Freight – with a few minor exceptions like buying chip brushes and nitrile gloves by the box when they are on sale – and adding a 20% off coupon.

Same here- chip brushes, nitrile gloves, and don’t forget the freebie LED flashlight or DVM.

I could make a case for the $40 compressor personally. Does anyone know if they’re any good?

Are you talking about the portable jump starter? They get good reviews. I also doubt they’re any different than the $80 ones sold at Wal-mart although I’m sure better brands exist.

Once you’ve seen one Harbor Freight sale you’ve seen them all. They basically always have a sale going with very similar products featured for similar prices. Their margins are already so low that even the Black Friday sale prices can’t go much lower. On some of these items, I’ve even seen lower prices. For example I remember considering whether to purchase that ladder at around $90, but I don’t remember if that included the 20% coupon. That is the other issue: sometimes the items that are on “super sale” aren’t any cheaper than using the 20% coupon on a regularly priced item.

I was talking about the 3 gallon compressor on the first page there. It’d only be for driving a brad nailer and filling my tires. Not building a house or anything.

I’ve played the HF coupon game many a times to outfit my garage but I’ve haven’t heard about the compressor quality before.

I have had their motorcycle lift for years. I think I paid $240.00 for it with discounts. It still goes on sale for $300.00.

I works great, it is stable and it is just as good as units that cost hundreds more. I highly recommend it.

Avoid the furniture dolly like the plague – using the little bastards is like herding cats. Extremely uneven caster rolling/rotating resistance makes it difficult to use. Might be able to completely clean and wipe out existing grease and come back with decent stuff, might make a difference, probably not. Would go elsewhere.

Agree. Bought three of them a couple years ago when they were on a similar sale. I have since relegated them to holding some boxes in a corner that I only rarely move, because moving them is like trying to push a stack of boxes on ice…..they’re going where they want to go, not where you want to them to go.

There are a few things worth getting at HF, mostly because they are just the same thing you can buy elsewhere, but HF sells them under a different brand in a different color for less.

Some of their hand tools have gotten better in recent years, but I still don’t get how people can buy the tool chests and much of the plastic/metal stuff that has that stench. It permeates everything in the area, and if you bring something with that smell into your garage or home, it will stink up the entire place for years to come. The worst part may be that you probably get used to it and no longer notice it. If you can walk into a HF store and not notice the stench, then that’s exactly what’s happened.

I did buy a transmission jack adapter from HF years ago, but that was when they were the only ones selling anything like it for the price, and I used to get the free tools with coupons all the time, just because, hey, free tools. I tend to shop elsewhere for everything else, the place just encourages businesses to keep importing bottom-of-the-barrel quality tools from China.

Honestly it looks like their every day sale prices. Not impressed with any of it. You’ll probably get a better or as good deal if you see the item on sale and then use the 20% off coupon. They have a few good/deals but most are far from good.

The inspection camera is a good deal, I have one and it was well worth the money. For $60 you can looking inside walls, appliances, car engines, etc for w/o having to tear it open. You honestly can’t beat that.

I really like the two-way 27 LED flashlight, and it gets very good ratings on their website. IMO it’s one of their best values for money, and it usually shows up at $2.99 with a coupon.

I’m overly critical/discerning/high maintenance in a lot of areas, but I’ve used Harbor Freight quite a few times. I bought an engine hoist which has hoisted a dozen engines over the last few years (and a 600-pound 7′ wide firepit that I couldn’t get outta the truck by myself), a bunch of acid brushes, numerous wheels and casters to build (uhmm, assist in building) umpteen cub-scout push-carts, many furniture dollies (like nature, they truly abhor straight lines), and I’ve been tempted to buy a back-up back-up breaker bar for the car several times. Over at GJ, they sing the praises of the tool boxes, but I’m probably going to pass on this one, I think…

I dig that tool chest, only if I had the room. The inspection camera for $60 seems to be a good deal. I think I’ll have to pick one of those up.

That Pittsburg 3 ton floor jack is good buy at $68.68, but for me it would be $168.68 sent here + duty and tax. I’ll probably end up buying the Torin Big Red jack from a local hardware store for the equivalent to $110.

That will have a 30/30 guarantee. The guarantee will run out in 30 minutes or 30km from the store which ever comes first!

I have never had much luck with the power tools but the multitool has always been a good buy. I have seen it on sale for cheaper and with a 20% coupon it’s a steal!

Just bought the 3 gallon air compressor for same price with a coupon. Also bought a Brad mailer for less than $17 with coupon. They work great! Compressor is a little loud while building pressure , but hey for less than $40 what do you expect? I set pressure to nailer at 85psi, and shoot around 25 brads before motor kicks back on for 2 minutes. I am very happy with both. For the price you can’t go wrong.
