I posted about the Hart double-ended multi-bit screwdriver back in May, and that same screwdriver is now on clearance for half price.
I still haven’t seen this screwdriver in person at any Home Depot location, and so perhaps it was an online-only experiment?

The driver has a quick-access button which allows the screwdriver shaft to slide through the handle. You can equip one bit on one side, and slide the shaft through to expose another bit on the other side. There’s in-handle storage for additional screwdriver bits.
It seems like it could be handy for certain users.
Personally, I find it interested enough that I’m likely to add it to my next Home Depot order, especially if I needed a “filler” to meet the free shipping threshold. But if it sells out before then, I wouldn’t be too upset.

I though it looked like a good concept when you first posted about it. I hope somebody else adopts the concept so it sticks around.
Could be nice working on electrical outlets for example, where you need a flat-blade to remove the covers but then a Phillips or Robertson is much easier when it’s time to unscrew the long mounting screws.

How well does it handle using and storing short single bits?
As it looks like one of those with double sided bits …

I’ll stick with our various multi-bit Klein’s.
At least we know they’ll both hold up to actual use and have easily replaceable dual bits.

Everybody’s gotta have a gimmick. This slide-through handle: is it really faster than just switching bits?
What I really want in a multi-bit driver is ratcheting and a locking bit holder. Anybody have ideas? I’d be open to a wrench-style holder. IIRC, the Wera is locking or ratcheting, but not both.

The same is true for Megapro and the similar looking Channleock – they ratchet but don’t lock the bit in place. The same goes for the Blackhawk 9000R-2 , the Ideal 35-988 and the Rolgear that Stuart posted about some time ago. Maybe you could fabricate your own using a locking extension bit holder, a ratcheting handle (like the Gearwrench 890001GD) and a dab of some epoxy. There is also the Malco – but I’m not sure what their locking mechanism is like:

Thanks! At first I thought the “lock” referred to locking the ratchet mechanism, rather than locking the bits to the driver. But from the reviews, it looks like the bits are locked in too.
Now if it only stored bits in the handle…

I think the MSRP on this is under $10.
Plumber’s Stock sells it for $9.22 plus shipping.
So Amazon is probably selling it for $13 (about = $9 + $4 shipping) – so it is a decent price

I bought this for $5 at a Direct Tools Outlet. It’s okay, especially for what I paid for. Let’s just say I had the opportunity to pick up another one at the same price and passed. The sliding bit holder did come in handy a couple of times.

Like I commented in the other thread, this looks like an accident waiting to happen.
If you push the shaft through, then the bits in the handle are just waiting to slice your palm open.

Hart is an “Exclusive” Bunnings brand here in Australia. Bunnings, our only big box hardware retailer, have been replacing good National brands with this brand for some time. One of the dumbest moves they made was dropping Nicholson files and replacing them with Hart brand. Why, extra margin, not quality or brand recognition, just plain greed. I haven’t purchased a file from them since they made this dumb move. Bunnings also carry the Hart cold chisel range a a few other tools. They look the part but the quality isn’t up where it needs to be to be considered a top quality trade brand.
