This Husky 46-inch 9-drawer mobile workbench tool cabinet looks to be Home Depot’s best option for most people, and it is consistently one of the most popular tool cabinets on the market.
Looking over its features and specs, I am impressed with what Husky can offer for the money.
I’ll soon have a test unit on the way – thank you Husky! – and I’ve built up extremely high expectations for it.

It’s *almost* on the way, because I haven’t yet made up my mind about the color (blue?!), but mostly because I need time after Thanksgiving to clear some space in my workshop for it.
The Husky tool cabinet features a solid wood top that measures 46″ long x 24.5″ deep, soft-close ball bearing drawer slides, 5-inch x 2-inch casters (2 swivel with breaks, 2 stationary), a total load capacity of 1200 lbs, and a power strip with USB charging ports.
The shallow drawers each have a 100 lb load rating, and the deep bottom drawers each have an extra set of drawer slides for 200 lb load ratings.
The side of the mobile workbench features a pull handle, power strip, and removable cord wrap.
Home Depot has the Husky 46″ mobile workbench in several color options. There’s blue, at the top of the page, red, black, all-black, white, and silver.

Red is a classic tool box color that you can’t go wrong with.
Black is also a classic rolling tool cabinet color that fits in anywhere.
There’s also an all-black model, with color-matched handle pulls, side handle, and casters.
I’m partial to the blue model, but this white-finish model is also a compelling choice.
Lastly, there’s also a silver model.
These models are all in Husky’s “standard duty” line of tool storage products, featuring 21-gauge frame construction and 100 lb drawer slides as standard.
What’s so Great About this Mobile Workbench?
Home Depot and Husky have a very wide range of mobile workbenches, tool cabinets, tool chests, and other types of steel storage products. Many are larger, some are heavier-duty, and a couple have interesting and innovative features.
Personally, I like the idea of a 46″ model – this seems large enough to provide a useful-sized work surface, but small enough to be moved out of the way when needed.
It has a full-width drawer that’s 41.6″ wide, 21.7″ deep, and 3.9″ tall. That’s perfect for longer tools, socket rails, and other such tools.
There are (4) half-width drawers, 3″ deep, (2) drawers that are 3.6″ deep, and the (2) bottom drawers that are 9.4″ deep. Those are great sizes for hand tools, power tools, accessories, smaller tool boxes, and all kinds of misc. supplies.
This 9-drawer tool box looks to be a great one-size-fits-most mobile workbench and tool storage cabinet solution.
My interest in a review sample is mostly about double-checking everything I heard about this particular model, but its particular drawer configuration looks to perfectly suit my immediate needs.
I have been testing a heavy-duty Husky mobile workbench for some time now – since my last sponsorship with them – and really want to compare it against their standard series.
I also need a mobile workbench in the middle of my small workshop for a short-term project, and so this seems like the perfect fit.
Back in 2018, I received this exact-same mobile workbench unexpectedly under a different sponsorship with Home Depot, but I couldn’t accommodate it. (My workshop gets awfully crowded every holiday season.) So, I passed it along to a local electrician.
They liked it so much that they bought a second one, and sent me this pic.
Since then, I have talked to more people, and Husky’s 46″ mobile tool storage workbench seems to be universally well-regarded. I am really looking forward to it!
At the time of this posting, Home Depot’s website has more than 4,300 reviews, with a 4.8 out of 5 star average rating and 95% of user reviewers recommending the tool cabinet.
I’ll pick a color and report back. If you own or have used this model, what have your experiences been like?

I purchased this model (in red, FWIW) about two months ago. I concur that it’s fantastic for my needs around the house. So far it holds nearly every single one of my tools (larger tools, such as bolt cutters, large levels, etc. are hung on a pegboard) with more room to spare. The top is solid, casters are smooth, wheels are extremely smooth, and the drawers are a dream. They close softly, feel solid, and the drawer liners are grippy enough to hold tools in place when the drawers are closed quickly, but are not so grippy that any residue gets on the tools or anything like that. Additionally, it fits perfectly under the Husky adjustable-height workbench I have (I’m 6’2″, so other people may have to set the workbench at a slightly lower height), which saves a lot of space in my one-car garage.
I have not had to do any heavy-duty beating on it, since I plan to save that for the workbench. But it will be awesome as a bit of additional work area, once it’s not bitterly cold in the garage and I can spend more time on projects in there.
I would recommend it with only one caveat: the thing is heavy. Have at least one other person (preferably two) help you unload it if you pick it up. Put down some blankets or something, cut open the box, assemble the casters, then gently tip it down onto the casters. Makes it way easier.

Off topic- has anyone used the Milwaukee automotive kit that’s on sale now for $199? Is the 1/2″ brushed impact wrench good for taking bolts off pick up truck wheels?

is the torque rating more than the book spec lug nut torque – if so should be great.

That impact will struggle with anything that’s slightly dirty or rusty, not worth it in my opinion

I purchased one circa 2016/2017, you all will laugh at this, the Husky tool chest makes an excellent dresser (I mean excellent extra dresser), I have been using since day #1 as a dresser……..shallow draws perfect for socks, top drawer knives, belts, EDC stuff, bottom drawers for extra t-shirts.
This application is typically not wife/GF approved……….

You can make something like this impervious to tip over by either bolting it to the wall (some have holes that can be used for this easily) or by placing a strong “shelf” above the unit when its wheels are locked so that it physically cannot tip forward (it’ll hit the “shelf” and stop moving).
And a final but harder option is to bolt the back wheels to the wall using u-bolts or similar.

Yes – there’s a lot that can be done, but I’ve seen plenty of people that don’t.
Not this particular model, but I’ve seen people dump their tools all over the floor because they open too many drawers at once.
I did that just once, when I was loading a new Craftsman 26″ wide x 18″ deep roller cabinet but started with the top drawer first.

I can confirm this is not Wife/GF approved. When I first met my now wife I was living in a 1 bedroom apartment and I had a 30-inch rolling box with top chest in my living room for my tool storage. I still hear about this from time to time when it comes to home decor since I thought (and still think) that it was a perfectly reasonable place for it.

Would made excellent kitchen cabinet too, especially when compared to the cost of kitchen cabinet with drawers. And for outdoor kitchen, it is no brainers, just get the stainless ones from Costco. Outdoor kitchen stuff is crazy expensive and mostly are junk.

I bought the 46″ cabinet for $200 about 2 years ago because it got dented pretty badly at HD. I had to cut down the left corner and straighten the metal and re-weld and paint it, but I have enjoyed it more than any other cabinet I’ve ever owned. It’s been fantastic to hold a million wrenches and sockets in the top drawer. And even with all that weight it’s very smooth and the self close slides work perfectly. It makes me smile every time I open it. I’ve got two 3 drawer husky boxes on top for all the misc. household junk and all the chargers to tablets, tools, etc. in between and running off the power strip on the side of the cabinet. My wife is happy one of her countertop drawers is reclaimed and I actually know where those random bits and bobbles are when I need them.

I have 2 of them–one I paid full price for quite a few years ago and the other one got dropped when unloading and I gave $150 for it only a few weeks later and it was a pretty easy fix and works fine. They are great. I have need for a third one in another shop but I’m waiting for another damaged one (might be a long wait I know). They are really hard to beat for the money. I have one full of hardware (nuts and bolts. etc) and it has exponentially more weight in it than the one full of tools and even with all of that weight, it works really well. I pitched the power strips—didn’t need them and they looked pretty light to me…

I have the Canadian edition. I thought it was the same at first, but mine doesn’t have a power strip and I’m pretty sure it’s a touch shallower. I recall there being special tariffs in the USA for tool boxes of certain depths, which presumably don’t apply here, hence a different size. Otherwise it looks identical.
It’s an excellent value. It is not a heavy duty toolbox, but it does just fine.
I find the full width top drawer a bit wobbly when loaded up – but I suspect I’ve overloaded mine. It was too temping to put all my sockets and most of my ratchets in there so everything would be in one place, but I’ve packed it densely and that’s a LOT of metal. Still seems to handle it ok, I just don’t rip it open or slam it shut. I can feel it flex if I’m overzealous.
The shallow half-width drawers also seem like good sizes. They don’t have any issue with weight even though they’re pretty full too. E.g. one is just pliers standing on edge with a DIY wooden organizer/liner. I couldn’t fit any more in there and it’s still fine.
I would prefer more mid and shallow drawers instead of the two big ones on the bottom, but I realize other people might use those for power tools or other bulky items. I just have bins sub-dividing the space that hold tools with their own pouches or cases (e.g. micrometers, calipers, thread chaser sets, a wire tracer, a compression tester, pullers and separators, etc).
I should probably do what your electrician friend did and get another! I could easily fill it and it would help organize some loose items cluttering my shop.

There has been a slightly smaller version for years (same width, 18 inch depth though). Maybe that’s what you’ve got? Believe that this one came out a few years later (now a few years ago… I’ve had my eye on it through several seasons and price increases and price drops. I should just finally click the button at this point.

I bought this box in black a few years ago for $298. and thought it was a heck of a deal. Back then, HD sold a box with 75# slides and another with the 100# slides like this one. With a quick look, they both looked the same. Some people were pretty P Oed when they found out they got the lighter duty cabinets instead of the heavier boxes.
Don’t fool around with one more box, why not go for three more and make an island of four boxes? I think I’ve seen picture on GJ of an island set up with a common top covering all of the boxes and tying them together. With this box, you would need to remove the electric strip for the two boxes in the center and not install the handles.

I was available in October, and so my thinking is that it might be back on Thanksgiving or the day after for Black Friday.
Retailers sometimes put holds on inventory that will be advertised in their Black Friday sales flyers, presumably to ensure customers will actually be able to purchase it during the promotional period.

Knew a guy who bought one of these for each of his small children to use as dressers in their rooms. His logic was that when they’re old enough to move out on their own they’ll be able to buy their own furniture and they’ll also now have a tool chest to use however they want.

This is absolutely a great deal. My HD had no problem dropping a few bucks off the one I selected due to a scratch on the back. I’m currently working organizing it with Gridfinity 3D printed bins.

My only complaint is the lack of a lip for clamping material to the work top. The pricier adjustable height and flip-up top models allow for clamping.

That’s a good point. Maybe you can drill a few 3/4″ holes in the top? There are plenty of hold-downs and bench dog clamps that work with that.

I got this a few years back (2018 I believe) without the embedded power cord. It was MSRP $400, 50% on black Friday. Best $200 I ever spent. I installed a bigger sacrificial wooden top (kicking the sides out, found a free dining room table on CL and modified that top) and its great. I have the big drawers at the bottom fully loaded with heavy stuff and no issues with the drawer after years of use. The only negative is my unit did not allow for handle to be installed on either side, I wish the handle was on the left not the right, but that’s only a minor inconvenience the once a year I want to move it. I got the dewalt small drawer organizer you showed on sale last year to organize tools and its great. The same year I got the Ridgid miter saw stand 50% ($100, MSRP at the time $200) and that is great. Its heavy as hell, so taking it up stairs isn’t the most fun, but that thing hasn’t missed a beat. I’ve brought it up and down flights of stairs when working on my house and nothing is loose.

You said the same thing the other day, but this model was never $200 on Black Friday; you must be referring to the 18″ deep model with lighter duty drawer slides. The older and smaller model did sell for $199, with 2017 being the last year it shows up in our Black Friday deal archives.
In 2018 the design was updated to what you can buy today (or close to it), with a larger top, longer drawers, power strip, and higher load capacity ball bearing slides.

It’s always a bear to move tool cabinets up or down stairs – removing the drawers usually helps a lot.

Perhaps, but I don’t believe this model/size/configuration existed in 2017.
The tariffs kicked into effect in January 2018, which raised prices and blocked smaller tool boxes from the market, which is why it’s so hard to find 18″ roller cabinets these days.
The tariffs prompted tool box makers to increase mobile workbench and roller cabinet sizes.

They’re generally screwed or bolted to the frame from the bottom. I’ve checked a bunch in the past – I don’t have one of these yet – and they seemed replaceable, and some even reversible. You might have to cut a butcherblock slab down to side though.

I have two of these. Bought one a few years ago that didn’t get much use as a work bench. Bought another one a couple years ago on a sale. I have a space in my garage that would render the folding top of a normal tool cabinet unusable due to the height. I took the top off of one and the wheels off another and stacked them into basically a flat topped rollaway cabinet. As I remember it was 4 screws and had to take a couple out for access, took like 15 min. Guess that was a long answer to a short question

8 phillip head screws hold it down from underneath. It’s a full sheet of metal so you could just use it with the metal top, but I would imagine it would flex a bit.

I think mine purchased circa 2016/2017 (less then $300), just lifts in/out (not secured in place).
Glad folks chuckled w/ my use of a toolbox as dresser and a toolbox can be used for way more things then just holding tools, just have to think out of the box.
I purchased b/c I was not going to spend $500plus on a second dresser, is not GF/wife approved in the main bedroom and is in my 16 years bedroom as dresser.

I currently have Husky, Craftsman Pro Series and US General tool storage options in my workshop.
The closest thing Harbor Freight has is is the Yukon 46” cabinet. Very similar. It’s $419 currently, but with coupons/holiday deals etc will possibly be cheaper. The 52” US General rolling toolbox is considerably more expensive.
The Husky seems to me to be better built, heavier duty etc. It is what I would choose if I was purchasing one now.
Harbor Freight is fine if you are content with the price/quality and can go in, pick out your toolbox and take it home with you. If you need to order it, your experience may vary depending on your store and manager.

Bought this in 2018 Black Friday sale for $199! Doesn’t have the power strip included but does now for about $20. Also purchased the metal pegboard that fits on the back. Great Bench and luckily I got this plus my Husky wide tool box about $200 less currently pre pandemic when prices were much better!

I have a previous model from Husky that I picked up after Christmas one year on closeouts. Pay attention to surface area. These are 24″ deep which is great, but I also have a shallow one in my clean room because 24″ was too deep for the room. When I priced these recently it was more cost effective to buy two 46″ units than one of the larger HUSKY units. Also watch the other brands pricing because they are selling 18-20″ deep units vice 24″. I’m happy with the HUSKY products.

You mean pushing it around? You could do it, but it could be a workout depending how much was in it. A mobile tool box like Packout/Toughsystem would be a better fit.

I just bought this same one in blue about 6 weeks ago for $409, and it’s definitely the 24″ deep model. It also came with the power strip / storage bins that mount to the workbench top. I noticed that it was out of stock the day after I bought mine, and it’s now $548 at Home Depot and out of stock again. I’m not sure how I got such a low price, it wasn’t advertised that I saw, I just happened to be browsing their web site and saw the blue one was the price I paid while the other colors were the full price.

I bought the 52” Sears craftsman version of this back in 2019. It was $515 delivered but I got $490 back in sywr. Not sure how these compare but the Sears one was solid, nine drawers, looks identical. The drawers are only 18” deep on mine, but the price was right!
