Home Depot has kicked off their cordless power tool combo kit promo, which can save you $150 or $100 on some new tools. The deal is pretty straightforward, but there are a couple of things to go over.
In order to get the discount, you must buy a combo kit from either the $150 or $100 savings tier, and also something else, such as another cordless kit, some batteries, or a bare tool.

The $150 tier includes Milwaukee’s latest and greatest M18 Fuel combo, which comes with their 2nd-generation Fuel brushless drill and brushless impact driver. Other combo kits include Ridgid’s 18V Gen5X combo kit, a Dewalt combo, and a Makita combo.
The $100 tier includes a Milwaukee combo, a Dewalt combo, a Ridgid Gen5X combo, and 2 Makita tool combos.
First, you go the landing page, click on the combo you want (Step 1), and then choose your additional tool/kit/combo/accessory (Step 2). The main combo and additional combo must be purchased at the same time.
There are different options for the additional tools and accessories, depending on the combo kit you choose as part of Step 1.
Buy Now(via Home Depot)
The deal can be incredibly good, depending on how you set up your combo. For example, if you select Milwaukee’s M18 Fuel drill and driver kit, and then an M18 USB charging power source for $29 you get the whole shebang for $278 ($399 + $29 – $150). I don’t think you’re ever going to see as a price on that combo.

Update: The list of eligible tools have changed. Go to the promo page, add the desired combo to your cart, and then choose from the list of qualifying tools.
There are also plenty of $99 tool and M12 kit options, resulting in a free tool and net savings on the M18 Fuel kit.
Deal ends 1/31/2016.
Here’s the fine print:

LOL, I wonder if they’ve closed the pro-rating loopholes this year. Honestly, I don’t think they cared much last year that people were (arguably) abusing it.
BikerDad
Sorry, but I don’t think it’s going to work like that. According to the fine print, the savings can’t be more than the value of the additional items. I.e. your additional item is only $75, you only get $75 in savings.

Stuart
At checkout it showed the full $150 savings even when the additional tool was less.

Thank you for sharing! I can confirm this works online. What it did was take 35% off each item.
I just ordered the $399 ($259.48 after discount) Makita XT257TB kit (1090 in-lb hammer drill, impact driver, 2X 5.0 batteries) plus a 4-volt Ryobi screwdriver that was $29.97 ($19.49 after discount).
Here’s what I paid (I’ll also get 5% back from Discover).
Merchandise Subtotal $428.97
Promotional Discounts -$150.00
Shipping Charges $0.00
Estimated Sales Tax $19.52

Total $298.49

If you have M12 tools too, I think the M12 Power Source is a better deal than the M18 one (they’re both $30). The M12 Power Source will output 2.1A, whereas the M18 only outputs 0.5A.
Stuart
Are you sure it’s only 0.5A? I was under the impression that it output at a higher rate, maybe 1A? I looked around and can’t find an official rating anywhere. Hmm, maybe it is limited at 0.5A, which is pretty slow. Seems faster to me.

So I’ve noticed the Ridgid and Ryobi 18V batteries (the 4.0AH) are going to $99 for a two pack. They did that deal last black friday, but apparently they’re doing it early this year. I doubt it would drop any lower than that on black friday.
Garyn
Just one point, the Ridgid $279 combo is their BRUSHLESS line. New release. Brushless hammer drill and impact driver with 2 4Ah batteries.
Pete
I am drooling over this deal–the batteries alone are worth almost the out-the-door price for this kit after the discount. But is it worth jumping on this set knowing that the OneKey stuff is just around the corner? Gimmicky or worth waiting for?
Stuart
That depends… are you okay paying more for the Milwaukee One Key versions of the Fuel tools?
I think that the ability to tweak the settings and set up different operating modes will be very useful, but only to some users. Do you honestly see yourself uploading different speed and torque profiles to your drill or impact driver?

If budget isn’t an issue, take advantage of this promo, get some additional batteries or a tool you want as the additional tool, and then use them for the time being. In a couple of months, wait for One Key reviews and user feedback, and then buy a set at that time. Keep your Fuels as backups or sell them as bare tools, keeping the batteries.

For Home Depot – going for the Makita kit 150$ discount.
XT257TB – first item – high end brushless drill and impact + case + charger + 2 5ah batteries
BL1830-2 – second item – 2 3ah batteries
Total is $368.00
The 2 5ah batteries are $205 right now on amazon with $25 promo, and 2 3ah are 90ish after promo(via separate transaction since you can’t get it stacked in one purchase). So you are at about $300 just for the batteries on amazon.
Since I mainly need the batteries (have the makita tools, vacuums, and yard equipment) – I feel like I’m getting the high end drills, case, and charger for about $70. Could always turn around and sell those for profit – or sell your old drills in favor of these high end ones.
Also, Makita seems to be giving away free 3ah batteries if you buy one of their brushless drill sets (see their site) and says for participating dealers. Doubt I can stack that but I don’t see the harm in asking customer service. Assuming HD doesn’t take the hit on that “freebie”, Makita does?

I purchased a m18 fuel 6 months ago I’m very impressed with it we drill holes in concrete every day for 8 hrs with it and it hasn’t failed me yet
adam
are you using a SDS drill for all that concrete drilling? didn’t see it mentioned, but with all that concrete I would think that would be the way to go
Michka
I can’t seem to get the deal (online or in store). Trying the Milwaukee fuel combo $399 with the additional item being the USB charger adapter $29.
At checkout I don’t get any discounts.
Has anyone had luck with this ?
Adam
There is a comment or post by Stuart that indicated home Depot changed the minimum qualify secondary tool purchase. I think $49 now. If you go thru home depot main tool page and go select the kit you want, it should list all of the qualifying tools.
Sometimes tools in store will trigger the discount that may not online
michael
The way it works is that they are tied by classification. On the left hand side it shows the qualifying items per tool package. http://www.homedepot.com/b/Featured-Products-Holiday-Combo-Kit-Offer/N-5yc1
In my case I bought a fuel and a battery/charger for another tool set I still use.
