Home Depot has a new tool deal of the day for Mother’s Day, and it’s beating the best offers by Lowe’s and Amazon by a huge magin.
Today only, 5/11/24, Home Depot has the Dewalt DWS779 12″ sliding miter saw on sale for $287.52.
This is an amazing low price – at least in my experience – for a very solid miter saw with great cutting capacity.

Lowe’s has the same saw for $399 right now, which is the regular seasonal price for the DWS779. Amazon’s best price, via a 3rd party tool store, is $389 right now. That’s the typical seasonal promo price for this power tool.
$287.52 is an excellent price, and I can’t emphasize that enough.
The same miter saw is typically $399, and occasionally there are bundle deals. For example, Home Depot has the same saw with a folding stand for $499 right now. The bundle deal is a great value too, but getting a discount on the saw gives you more flexibility in accessory choices.
The deal ends at 3am ET 5/12/24 unless supplies sell out sooner. Or, it might end earlier as we saw the other day with Home Depot’s Milwaukee M18 Fuel cordless power tool bundle deal.

This model was updated a few years ago. Read more: Dewalt DWS779 Sliding Miter Saw Updates – Here’s What Changed. Back then, the best price on this saw has been $349, but we haven’t seen that for a while.

Deal Price Analysis
Home Depot says you save 52%, or $311.48 off of $599.
I say that the price of $287.52 reflects true savings of around ~28%, as it’s $111.48 off the regular PROMO price of $399.
Nobody should be spending more than $399 for this saw. If you find the DWS779 saw priced at $599, look for a bundle deal or a discount on the flagship model DWS780. There have been times in between sales seasons where the DWS780 was priced lower than the DWS779.

Stuart, I really appreciate your organization. That you have the link to what was updates re in the 779 a few years ago. Relevant background.

It seems that both Acme and Ohio Power Tool are also selling the saw bundle (with stand) for $499 – but neither have the deal that HD does on the bare saw.

In case anyone is interested in the DWS779 versus the DWS780, I bought the DWS779 during the pandemic and did a renovation with it. Zero complaints, but I’m a DIYer and not a professional.
My understanding is that the main difference between the 779 and the 780 is that the 780 has a built-in light feature, and half-way through the renovation, I bought and installed the light kit, which made setting up cuts even more efficient, and made it closer to what the DWS780 can offer, while still saving $$.

I bought the 779 after having the 780,wish I had the led light back

Almost went for it. But I really like the shadow cut line

Too bad, article came across at 9:15 p.m., too late to get from HD. Hope this deal comes up again.
Stuart
Home Depot deals of the day are typically online-only. With this one, they don’t seem to have any inventory local to me, and it’s probably the same at your stores. If you went to your local store looking for the deal, you would have likely been disappointed.

I got this email at 8AM today (5/12). Does anyone experience such delays from this mailing list?

That’s the same time I got it

Emails go out at 11am ET, posts added after that are pushed to the next day.
During peak shopping seasons (such as Black Friday) or incredible “run, don’t walk” types of deals I’ll manually push a second email.
I didn’t do that with this one (or Monday’s HD deals of the day yet) mostly because I thought HD would quickly kill the deal as they did on Friday. Basically, I thought there was a good chance the deal would be over by the time I could get a manual email push scheduled and sent.
I usually feel that I need to have very good reason to send a second email. Today’s repeat email with the HD deal of the day post is going to go out at 1pm ET, and so you’ll see what I mean. I wasn’t going to push that one either, but went ahead to avoid further disappointment.
It’s not usually a problem because I make it a point to have deal posts up before the 11am ET cutoff. I didn’t do that yesterday because it was a Sunday, and I was slower to check as HD doesn’t often have tool deals on Sundays.
I’m not sure what Ben is referring to – maybe Google news feed? – because the email hadn’t gone out by then.
Some people are going to first see this post days or a week from now, and that’s because Google’s news feed algorithm isn’t very smart and doesn’t pick up on “today only” or “ends MM/DD/YY”.

I’ve been getting a bunch of complaints. As a reminder, if you’re subscribed to the WEEKLY email newsletter, you’re going to miss most deals of the day. I recommend that you consider the DAILY newsletter.
I’ll be exploring options for a deals-only email newsletter again, but it’s been
difficult to dial in the settings for.

I’ve got a deck project at home coming up soon and was on the fence about getting a new saw. The Mother’s Day price at Big Orange pushed me over the top. This one seemed like about the most solid deal I’ve seen in a long while on this saw–maybe ever? Plus, there was a promo $20 credit if using the Home Depot card. So, an even better deal with 0% financing for a year on top of it. I’m looking forward to using it.
I had been shopping the saw and stand, which was also pretty reasonably priced at $428, but once the deck is done, I will make a dedicated bench/workstation for this saw in the garage shop, so I don’t really need the stand.

I would think twice, I have had the 779 but switched to the flexvolt 60v version 781 and the dust collection is so much better, the shadow line is the best for precision, I don’t bother with the zero clearance tape anymore. I would have trouble switching back.
Don
Wonder if it will be back for a fathers days sale? Gonna be watching.
Stuart
Doubtful. $399 is the seasonal holiday price.
