So, here we are again – another Black Friday and Holiday shopping season is upon us, and Home Depot is back with a new series of cordless power tool deals.

The nature of this deal is similar to what we’ve seen in past years’ deals – buy a cordless power tool starter set or combo kit, and select 1 or 2 free bonus tools.

There are several different deals, featuring options by Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, and Ridgid, all in the brands’ respective 18V and 20V-class cordless power tool systems.

The beauty of this deal, aside from saving you money, is that you save money on the tools you want. There are some boundaries – there are very specific “buy this” options and limited “get that” choices, but you still have far more freedom that with typical value-priced “special buy” cordless power tool kits.

And yes, while you can usually get a starter kit or combo kit for less than they are here, you can’t beat the price on the whole shebang. Just be sure that everything you buy is something you need and want, and if not, a different deal might be a better fit.

Let’s take a look at what’s new for 2020.

Table of Contents

Dewalt 20V Max Cordless Power Tools FREE Bonus Offers

Home Depot Holiday 2020 Free Dewalt Bonus Tools Offer

To my surprise, Home Depot has 3 Dewalt 20V Max starter kit and cordless power tool combo kit options for the 2020 promo.

Buy the starter kit or drill kit for $199 each, and you get one free bare tool. Buy the Atomic series 4-tool brushless cordless power tool combo kit for $399, and you get to select 2 free tools.

Dewalt Freebie Tool Selection

Dewalt 20V Max Black Friday 2020 Cordless Power Tool Starter Kit Free Tool Offer Home Depot

This is everything you get to choose from.

If you ask me, the brushless router, jig saw, or impact wrench are the highlights here, and they also have the highest retail value.

Dewalt 20V Max Black Friday 2020 Cordless Power Tool Starter Kit

We talked about this deal the other day, and it continues to be an awesome value. Buy a compact 4Ah battery, 6Ah battery, charger, and tool bag for $199, and get a free tool – up to $199 retail value. What’s not to like.

And, there’s a second starter kit option – a premium XR compact cordless drill kit, also $199. I posted more details about this deal today. I’m leaning towards thinking this is the better kit for newcomers to the Dewalt platform, and the battery deal might be the better deal for existing Dewalt users who have no use for another drill.

Milwaukee’s M18 cordless power tool deal is similar, and similarly surprising. There are 2 offers included in Home Depot’s Black Friday 2020 sales flyer, and a third option as well.

At least for the HD Milwaukee deals – something similar is extant at a number of other retailers (Acme for sure has the 399) or by e-rebates at some.

Really feeling some regret looking at the Dewalt deals, though – a brushless drill and router for $199 in red would be awesome.

Probably the least important aspect of these deals, but props to Makita on their toolbags that have side pockets and strap rings.

This’d be a fun post Stuart – ignore all the various stackouts and compare the “free” bags you get with various brands.

The smaller Milwaukee bag is the literally perfect size to hold a takeout styrofoam container.

HD – has what seems like some decent prices on table saws – including a Ridgid jobsite saw on a rolling stand for $349

In the Home DePot I go to, DeWalt has the FlexVolt Advantage deal, $199 for tool and 6.0 battery and charger that you mentioned the other day. I was able to pick up the circular saw with battery. I do not need the battery so I returned it and got the saw for just over $100.

Do you think we’ll see anything similar (buy this, get that) in the 12v lines this year?

I just wanted to add that I know there are a number of M12 tool combination deals right now (at least at HD) but I was wondering if we’d see anything a little more flexible. I can’t quite find the combination I want.

I just bought the HD m12 battery deal- $129 for one 2.0ah, one 4.0ah, and one 6.0ah. I actually went there for the two 3.0ah batteries for $79 but the price went up already. Ended up seeing this deal, which i think is a better deal.

I was looking at the two 3.0ah batteries for $99 and decides the 3 pak for $129.00 was a better deal so I went with that.

Last week the two 3.0ah’s were $79! But thats ok, i still think the 2/4/6ah bundle is a better deal even though it costs more.

Absolutely. Once I got used to the 6.0 batteries it was hard to use the other ones.

Hmm, I’m tempted by the 2x5ah Makita deal (with the 6 1/2″ circular saw) since I really want to replace my corded Skill saw and already have a 18V Makita drill and impact driver. But for the same price I can get a brushless Dewalt saw with 6+4ah batteries.

Is the brushless deal worth having a mix of tools, or should I just stick to one ecosystem? How many here mix and match brands of cordless tools?

      *Raises hand*

But for personal use, I’d want to minimize how many different systems I used. Two systems shouldn’t be too challenging to maintain, and give you more options for future expansion.

If the Makita sold out right now, would you be upset at having missed out?

I’d likely be happy with either, so I don’t think I’d be kicking myself. Just wondering if going brushless is worth jumping ship. AFAIK, there’s no brushless makita 6 1/2″ saw.

          For just one tool?

We’re talking about Atomic series brushless, which is a little different than say a 7-1/4″ brushless circular saw that’s touted as being a corded replacement. The Atomic saw is too new to tell if it’s better than Makita brushed. All inventory has been rushed to retail channels, and so reviewers haven’t gotten their hands on it yet. I’ve considered ordering one, but I wouldn’t be able to test it in time for readers to decide or act upon these deals.

If you *really* want to replace a corded saw, it’s worth instead considering one of the $249 deals. They’ll also benefit your other tools with more batteries.

          Makita 18V X2 cordless circular saw kit: $249 w/ free battery 2-pack
          Makita 18V X2 cordless rear-handle saw kit: $249 w/ free battery 2-pack

XSH06PT is also available at Acme Tools
XSR01PT is also available at Acme Tools

If you want 6-1/2″, or are on a stricter budget, Makita brushed motor vs. Atomic brushless is going to be a tough choice. You could really go either way here.

Take your time and decide. Or, a better or more compelling deal might come along.

I’d jump on the Dewalt two battery starter kit if they had the 7-1/4 in circular saw (DCS573B) instead of the 6-1/2 version. Or maybe the barrel grip jig saw over the D handle.

I guess that’s the “starter kit” difference. Still really tempting.
