Home Depot has another round of tool deals of the day for 2/21/24, featuring a huge selection of tools from Dewalt, Ridgid, Ryobi, Milwaukee Tool, and others.
A lot of the deals are familiar – either they’re repeat deals or highly similar to recent deals. That’s not a bad thing, as some of them are really good bargains.
The deals end at 3am EST 2/22/24 unless supplies sell out sooner.

I’m seeing an online-only bundle of Milwaukee 8.0 Ah High Output XC battery and 3.0 Ah battery for $149 – that’s $50 less than the cost of the 8.0 Ah battery alone.

If you need those batteries now, yes.
Here’s my general stance towards deals of the day: buy first, then think it over. Cancel or return it if you change your mind, just be sure to be familiar with the policies before you order. For instance, sometimes batteries can only be returned in-store, which isn’t a big deal for me, but could be for you if the closest Home Depot store is an hour away.

Make sense. I did buy them already, so I’m good there. I want to use the 3.0 particularly for the framing nailer, or impact driver. With an extended magazine and 2 racks of 3 1/4” nails, it gets a little heavy. With a bunch of framing coming up, I think I’ll thank myself later. The 8.0 I’ll use in a grinder or Sawzall, probably. Not a bad deal for these batteries! Thanks for the input.

I have numerous 6.0’s, 8.0’s, and 3.0’s, all the HO and the 3.0’s are a game changer. They won’t go all day but they pack the same amount of power as a 5 and they are lighter/smaller.

I had the same reservation but it feels/works much better than it looks. Like mentioned above, I use it constantly and much more than my other drills/drivers.

DeWalt and Bosch also use the more standard pistol format.

I’ve had the “original” Bosch version for years and generally gravitate to the present US Milwaukee version. Don’t think I’ll order the Brit version you mentioned and I did not know of until now or the other euro brands for my range of uses. But thanks.

I’ve been drooling over the US version for a long time, but have the same reservations as other people (balance, buttons, etc.). That Euro version looks like one I’d be more likely to take the leap on! Wonder if it is available through any common channels here in the US….

It feels good, my only complaint is the momentary button on top for forward/reverse. 10 years of muscle memory is not the easiest to break. Even so, I still hardly use my other drills anymore around the house. Its versatility and convenient case earned it a spot not in the basement.

I just bought a Festool 10 V drill because of that button.
I’ve had that 12v drill with the button on top for better than a year still can’t use to it. I’m not about to do it again.

It’s definitely not unbalanced, that part of the housing in front of the grip contains only a small circuit board and a magnet for holding bits so it is not front-heavy at all.
I love mine. The only gripe I can think of is, as others have said, the membrane switch for forward/reverse instead of the more traditional cross-bolt. It’s not a dealbreaker but it did have something of a learning curve. I found it awkward at first but like Big Richard mentioned if you hold it like a drywall gun then it’s very ergonomic and the buttons can easily be accessed with your thumb.
Overall this is a very capable tool. It’s light, it’s handy, it’s quite powerful for its size, it has a good mechanical clutch. The trigger control is good too. If mine disappeared I would buy another straight away.

As others have said, I hold it like a drywall gun. Pointer finger extended, middle finger trigger. I have ape hands tho, not sure if that works for everyone.
Holding it thusly yields a super low bore axis, so the centerline of rotation is inline with the wrist, versus being all top heavy. To me it’s a good tradeoff versus the fat handled top heavy feel of the regular M12 drills.
Ergonomics are IMO, YMMV, etc

I have the M18 fuel impact and hammer drill, the M12 fuel impact and hammer drill, and an M18 fuel surge. The surge is my favorite by far, it never splits wood so I find myself using it on cabinet doors as well as when building a fence out of pressure treated lumber, and even framing. I’ve had my eye on the installation driver for some time now.. is it worth it even though I have 7 other drills? I do a fair amount of cabinet work.

I’ll find out soon enough! I took advantage of the deal last night. Can’t wait until it arrives. I had to use my drill with a right angle adapter today to unscrew the locking hardware on some casement windows. What a pain in the ass. Holding that right angle bit while working the drill and holding the hardware so the screw doesn’t get lost all at the same time is near impossible. Having the installation driver would have made life much easier today. The right angle head stays put unlike the right angle adapters I’m used to. I’ll be waiting for the new drill to come before I put the hardware back!

If you like the ergos, then 100% yes. I use it for everything up to 3.5” or 4” lag screws, and even then only reach for something bigger I f I have a bunch of them to do.
Don’t get me wrong, with that I’m predrilling and using low range gearing, but it handles it just fine.
But for cabinet work? Forget about it. I never realized how much I needed the offset head until I had one.
And the clutch is so good. The full range is usable, from clutch #2-4 being perfect for #8×1/2” truss screws (for drawer slides), clutch #10 for #8×1.25” for pocket screws) all the way up to clutch #14-16 for 3-1/8” cabinet screws.
Beyond that, set geared speed to #1 with clutch full in drill mode and you still have enough control to never strip anything big enough to warrant that setting.

I have the Ridgid 18v Cordless Inflator and it’s a great tool. I literally used it today to air up a friends leaking tire. I saw the price drop and decided to pick up a 2nd one. I’ll keep one in each of my vehicles.

I’ve had this tool for about 4 years. Originally bought it for cabinet installation, but it has been my go-to drill & driver when I don’t need the punch of the M12 drill or impact.
I had same reservations about balance and ergonomics at first, but found it’s actually quite natural and comfortable with me. it feels no different than a standard pistol grip, but center of gravity is slightly different. Really hard to explain exactly why, but it feels really good to handle.
I have found the additional front-of-finger piece to be very helpful when using the right angle attachment, as it gives me a place to use my off hand to apply “sideways” pressure, especially when driving screws.
Highly recommend it if you are at all interested.
