Home Depot kicked off another round of tool deals of the day, featuring tools from Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ryobi, and more.
Some of the deals are better than others, as you can see from the screen capture shown above.

As usual, I think Home Depot’s deals of the day are worth a quick look through. Some of the deals are new, such as the Packout worklight/charger and cooler bag.
I mean, the M18 worklight and charger is typically $199. If that’s been on your shopping list, you get $20 savings and a Packout-compatible cooler.

Although… I think Acme Tools has a better deal on the M18 Packout light/charger. With Acme’s deal, you spend full price – $199 – but can choose a free 4-wheel dolly or deep organizer as the freebie inclusion. You could also choose the cooler, but if you’re going to do that Home Depot has a better price.

And, Home Depot also has a slew of Labor Day tool deals too. Some of the Labor Day deals are really good, but you have to sort through them. This isn’t like Black Friday where there’s something on sale for everyone.

I can’t speak for the Milwaukee pruner but I own the Dewalt version. Of all the tools in my garage and workshop, this is probably the most dangerous and is the only one that gives me the heebee-jeebies. Next up, I guess, would be my jointer but only if I’m running it without the guard trying to flatten something wider than the bed. Most tools are such that your off-hand is safely out of the way of the dangerous bits. But the very nature of a pruner means that there’s a good chance that your other hand is holding the branch(es) that you’re cutting so your fingers are uncomfortably close to the blade. Have to be extra-diligent when using it.

I’ve used the pvc shears for many years and yes, you need to be aware of what you are doing. I suppose that if you are blindly reaching into a bush with two hands and using these that you have a high risk of lopping off a finger, but what makes these feel more unsafe than a circular saw, or anything else where you might put a finger into the blade?

It feels like this is the exact device you would get if you tasked Milwaukee engineers with creating a device solely for amputating fingers. Love mine, it works great. But I do feel uncomfortable using it compared to other [more dangerous] tools.

I keep one hand on the tool, and the other hand at least 6 inches away.
It’s not much different from using one-handed reciprocating saws, nailers, drills, or similar.
If you’re not comfortable, keep both hands on the tool.

I admit that it (pruner) looks like a shortcut to having a good story for the bar. I’ve always wanted a pneumatic one for that extra-dangerous thrill. Having a Makita pruning chainsaw is enough for moi, and I use it as little as possible.
They look like a genius idea for wine vineyards maybe? Manual loppers seem to do the trick in real life for a 99% of humanity (although I wish they were better made).
Sometimes I like the idea of going back in time. Buy a crank-operated drill press and a treadle scroll saw.

That little M12 stapler had me staring off into the distance, contemplating yet another >$100 impulse purchase. What is a man? Are we just haphazard collections of impulses and desires? Are we our own worst enemy, driving ourselves headlong into penury, and for what? A new doodad, a project or two, and maybe, just maybe, a little more meaning to ease our beknighted, hapless lives?

I’ve had one for a while. Bought it to do frames for canvas paintings and the occasional furniture. Plus some laziness in firing up an air compressor.
Meh. From what I remember from my comfy chair here, it was picky about staples and didn’t cycle all that quickly. I’d rather have the money back.
My Porter Cable pneumatic staplers are way way better. There’s probably a use case for the portable ones, but not anything I do.

If you just want batteries, this looks to be a good deal – two of these starter kits give you 2x 2.5Ah and 2x 5Ah batteries, plus 2x chargers, for $198.

The M18 12ah plus 5ah for only $160 (?)is an awesome deal. Heck, even those other 2x 8ah + 2x 6ah is a steal.

My Home Depot entry for the Milwaukee Pruners shows the $399 price with the 2 x 5aH batteries. I even added to cart to see if tah worked. I also saw the Labor Day Savings designation on the page but not a power price. Definitely interested in that though.

The best price on the M12 pruner kit right now is the 1-battery kit for $199, which is the same as the regular tool-only price. That’s not as good as the recent deal of the day, but it’s the only active promo I can find.

There was a 3 pack of the HO 5ah batteries for under $200 but that deal is gone too. I wish I would have snagged one of the deals. There is supposed to be another really good upcoming m12 deal but I don’t know when it starts.
