I found Home Depot’s Spring Black Friday tool deals to be a bit underwhelming this year.
While mass media and tool influencers would have you believe they’re offering you amazing discounts on all the tools you’ve been missing in your kit, I found them to be pretty “so-so.”
They’re still worth looking through before they expire.

Home Depot is also running new tool deals of the day today, and some of them are quite good.

For last season’s Black Friday and holiday promos, Home Depot had a new Milwaukee Packout organizer and 90pc Shockwave bit set bundle on sale for $50, as shown in this image of the in-store display.
As part of today’s tool deals of the day (4/26/24), they have it for $34.97. (Buy it at Home Depot)
$34.97 for a bundle that was $50 for Black Friday. That’s a good price, and is much more inline with “Spring Black Friday.”
They’ve got more than 4,000 units in stock with free shipping. Is this a planned deal, or an attempt to clear out remnant overstock? It doesn’t matter, the Packout organizer is great, and the bits are too.
Personally, I would prefer an added discount on the 100pc set, but it bounced back to its regular price and then some. The 100pc set is usually $50 on promo, and it’s a $105 “special buy” right now.

The 90pc set is looking mighty appealing, especially since I can always use more of the Packout low profile compact organizers. The same organizer is $30 right now.
Some of the deals are no different than for Home Depot’s last umpteen tool deals of the day.

The M12 Fuel installation drill/driver kit, with its 4 head attachments, 2 batteries, a charger, and kit bag, is bundled with a bonus 5Ah battery for $179 again.
Is it worth buying? Absolutely. But if you miss it now, you’ll probably see a similar promo price in the near future.
Today’s deals of the day also features tools and accessories from Ridgid and Ryobi, with a couple of Dewalt and Husky promos mixed in.

Dewalt’s 3Ah battery 4-pack is on sale again, for $149.
Home Depot’s tool deals of the day end at 3am EST 4/27/24, unless supplies sell out sooner. The Spring Black Friday deals end 4/28.

I did check Home Depot’s in-store promos the other day, and some of the Dewalt tool displays were cleaned out. The deals seemed okay, but not as post-worthy as the more notable of today’s deals of the day promos. It was hardly a “Black Friday” sale though.
I might revisit a local Home Depot store before the sale ends, but all of the same deals and promos are also available online. As with the deals of the day, however, the selection felt a bit banal.
If you took a look, did you see anything good?

big fan of the DeWalt display setups (over the pallet) – thought this was a cool merchandising of the products

For the 90-piece packout kit: I like how the item packaging states “$220 value”, the cardboard tool display states “$195 value”, and the website image states “$99 value.”

I was in a couple of local Home Depot’s this week, and honestly it didn’t feel like a Spring (or any other “special” occasion) Black Friday, because the array of deals was underwhelming. Though I was not on the look out for the Milwaukee bit set because a few years ago I bought that set of Makita impact driver bits you recommended, and am still very happy with those.
Stuart
The Makita XPS bits? I rarely buy Makita assortments, but like their XPS bulk boxes.
It’s not that they last longer, but their fitment is excellent, even with a bit of wear. I should buy more, but I have plenty of Milwaukee ShockWave, Dewalt MaxFit, and FlexTorq.
I also have a lot of Bosch bits, but don’t like them as much. I bought them mainly for the bit drivers and cases.
Robert
Stuart, yes the Makita XPS bits. It is a 50 or 60 piece set. My local HD store added another discount, it had a yellow label, so it was like $13 dollars and some strange number of cents. I only use a few of the bits, but they work very well. No cam out.
Nathan
Are those 3ah batteries the fiberglass filled oil resistant ones? I thought they used that color scheming for them. Anyway if so that might be appealing though I have no need for more batteries and the ones I have don’t appear to mind automotive work
Big Richard
No just all black like their 1.5Ah compact promo battery, the DCB201.
Stuart
Yep, as Big Richard said, the color is only cosmetic.

Dewalt gave the 3Ah batteries a facelift last fall.
Lyle
Do they still have the state of charge indicator? The 1.5Ah ones didn’t.
Stuart
Yes. I don’t have any of these, but Home Depot’s images show a battery charge indicator on the back.

I’d sent this deal via the email form but forgot to add the link. Woot! has the DeWalt DWS780R for $419.99. https://tools.woot.com/offers/dewalt-dws780r-double-bevel-sliding-miter-saw. Shipping is free if you’re an Amazon Prime member. They tend to have a fair number of DeWalt tools on sale regularly, and some seem to be the nicer models/combo kits on the 20V line. They’ve also had good prices on the PowerStack batteries.
I’m not sure what the “R” at the end of the model name designates, it’s listed as “new” and supposedly has the full warranty. I don’t think I have the budget to take advantage (I’m a DIYer/woodworker, we moved to a new house, and have another baby due next month so I wouldn’t be using this for a while anyway) but hopefully someone else in the market for a new miter saw can.
Stuart
Thanks!
Other retailers that have the DWS7980R say it’s reconditioned.
Woot lists it as “new.”
I haven’t ordered or returned anything from Woot in recent memory, but you could always send it back if it’s misadvertised. They say heavy items shipped by truck have a $50 return fee.
Kevin
Somebody asked on their forum and the staff claimed the refurb designation was incorrect, they’re supposedly new, sealed box units. They supposedly fixed the rest of the listing but not the title.
I’ve bought a fair amount from them but never did a return, so no idea on how they handle that. But since they’re owned by Amazon, if you’ve got a long-standing account without returns, they’re likely to be accommodating.

I don’t get the headline of this article. Seemed to imply the sale is special, which is hwat got em to click through. Then the article says only one item is really special (Milwaukee bits and packout) and the balance are “meh.”
Stuart
After feeling “meh” about all the deals, this finally feels like a Black Friday sale – a really good deal, a couple of “okay, that’s a good price” deals, and bunch of “isn’t it that price all the time?” promos.
I’ve been inundated with “SPRING BLACK FRIDAY!!!!” emails, and seeing the same in my news feed, and it’s all been very lackluster.
There are some good deals – Dewalt’s 12″ sliding miter saw is $100 off, and there are good prices on batteries, but there’s a lot of “special buys” that were discounted to the same prices from October thru January, and with remnant inventory still discounted regularly since then.
$35 for a recommendable bundle that was $50 for BF finally lifted my mood about the “savings event.”
Feels special to me, at least far better than the “Spring Black Friday” deals I’ve seen until now.
I felt the headline fit my mood and didn’t revisit it after writing the post. Would you have preferred something like “Home Depot Topped Boring Spring Black Friday Sale with New Better Deals – HURRY!!”
TomD
The title was fine but I had to reread the opening paragraph a few times (combined with above) to work out that spring Black Friday is an ongoing thing not just yesterday.
Mark T
Thank you for updating us consumers! Personally, I feel BF has become overused & unimpressive w their actual bargains. You’ve got to do your homework & save screenshots for comparisons. I don’t “need” anything now but I will look forward to genuine sales in Nov/Dec.
Stuart
I really should have done a roundup earlier in the season, but every time I see “OMG, the DEALS!!” news and reviewer coverage, it piled on top of the mediocre offerings and made me completely disinclined.
You can get some good bargains right now, but the same is true year-round.
eddiesky
Meh. Not by me its a deal. Matter of fact, I was going to get some Spectrazide weed spray that HD has for $9.99 (it attaches to the garden hose). Then I saw the unbelievable… Lowes had the same size, same brand item for $6. SIX BUCKS! I grabbed them up.
No deals at Home Depot for me.
Nathan
Yeah they had a otho bug spray as a buy one get one sale. Which was a great deal as I use a gallon and a half to go around my whole house. So I got 6 but paid for 3

Speaking of sales, has anyone seen that Acme Tools claims they have “New lower pricing on select Makita batteries”? I’m wondering if this is a permanent change or a promotion? Acme doesn’t really make it clear.
Stuart
I took a look just now, and the prices are lower, but still very uncompelling.
For example, the Makita 18V 3Ah 2-pack is lower priced at $184 at Acme. It’s better than the $209 at many other authorized dealers, but it’s still comparatively very high.
For a few months last Fall, they had 2x 5Ah batteries, plus a charger, plus a FREE tool for $199.
Michael F
It’s such a bad “sale” price that I was wondering if this is just the new permanent pricing.
Stuart
It looks like promotional pricing. A lot of brands and retailers use “new lower price,” and then reset the pricing when the promotions end.
Seeing as how the batteries are still listed at higher pricing elsewhere, I think it’s just a promotion. Semi-permanent price changes tend to go into effect everywhere at once.
S
Seems to be par for the course anymore for the typical sales times. Even black Friday has been underwhelming for me the last few years.
I always warn new tradesmen to watch the discounts for at least 3 months before pulling the trigger. It seems most retailers now will have a non-expected sale at a random time, then mark it up for a few weeks, and put it on ‘sale’ for the typical dates like Black Friday or similar, but $50-100 more than the old sale price.
Nathan
I’m waiting for all the overstock sales later. Occasionally there is some decent deals. But 2 weeks or a month after
Bob
The m12 installation kit is “Hackable,” with the kit pricing at ~$108. Much more attractive that way, unless you need the 5ah battery.
Tony
“Spring” Black Friday? Is this a new thing?
MM
I’ve been seeing a lot of ads with that wording on it the last few years but I can’t recall seeing any deals as good as what is typical for the normal black Friday deals.
Tony
Last Friday I walked into: Lowe’s, Menards, and Ace Hardware. I didn’t see any of them referencing a “Spring” Black Friday event. So I’m guessing it’s just a contrived term that Home Depot is using. Too bad that Home Depot couldn’t likewise come up with a “Spring CyberMonday” event as their next contrived marketing title because I could use some new tool batteries on sale . . .
Frank D
Retailers will be hurting to move merchandise. Was in Home Depot a few times recently and absolutely nothing stood out. Everything seems more expensive than it has ever been, even on sale. Fortunately I have a considerable tool arsenal, so I’d only be looking at new products solving an issue or replacements for something that fails … Anyhow to me this whole thing is akin to the HF “ blowout “ “ liquidation “ “ huge parking lot “ … sales. A lot of noise, nothing too special … because the regular prices at HD have gone up so much.
BigTimeTommy
Pretty funny seeing retailers use the same marketing buzz phrases are prices get more and more insane. Can’t remember the last time I saw a good value in a hardware store.
Stuart
A 90pc bit set and Packout organizer at $5 more than the organizer by itself, and $15 less than its Black Friday bundle price is a good value.
jake
I ordered two. Thank you very much for the heads up!
