Home Depot Tool Deals of the Day Hero 5-17-23

Home Depot has another round of tool deals of the day, featuring tools from Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ryobi, Ridgid, and Crescent.

As usual, the Milwaukee cordless power tool deals are especially good.

There are deal bundles featuring each Milwaukee M12 Fuel die grinders with a high output 2.5Ah battery, M12 Fuel ratchets with a high output 2.5Ah battery, and many decent M18 bundles.

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Surge Brushless Oil Impact Driver with Starter Kit

A reader recently asked why there weren’t any deals on the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Surge oil impact driver. Here you go – you get the impact and 2-battery starter kit for $189. The bare tool is $169 by itself.

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Rear Handle Circular Saw and Jigsaw Starter Kit Bundle

There are other bundles as well, such as this one, with a Milwaukee M18 Fuel rear handle circular saw, M18 Fuel jig saw, High Output 8Ah battery, and Rapid Charger, for $389.

Ryobi TSS103 Sliding Miter Saw 2-Pack at Home Depot

This one confuses me a bit. At the time of this posting, you can buy a Ryobi TSS103 10″ sliding miter saw $269.

So what does Home Depot do? Two for $249. Why not just discount just one? Who needs two of the same Ryobi miter saw?

Milwaukee M18 Rocket LED Light wiht 5Ah Battery

The M18 Rocket LED tripod light is $189 with an XC 5Ah battery.

Milwaukee 28pc Metric Socket Set 1-4 Drive

There are some hand tool deals as well, such as this 1/4″ drive 28pc metric socket set for $55.

Home Depot included some Dewalt 20V Max Atomic series deals as well – skip those and buy the newest generation tools for less.

The deals are varied and are definitely worth at least skimming through.

The sale ends at 3am ET 5/18/23, unless supplies sell out sooner.

Huh, the two-for-one Miter Saw promotion is very weird. I wonder if that’s some automated algorithmic deal, or perhaps it’s intended to be weird and get people talking?

I guess if you’re buying one as a gift for a friend/relative and want one yourself? That’s a real stretch though.

Would this work for deal-hacking? Return one half of the bundle?

      It will work for resellers.

As it’s sold as a bundle, the saws would have to be purchased or returned together.

If you dig deep enough at HD you find bundles that are clearly only for contractor firms or something, like this one: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M18-FUEL-16-in-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Battery-Electric-Chainsaw-with-Two-M18-6Ah-High-Output-Batteries-2-Tool-2727-20-2727-20-48-11-1862/322136062

It only makes sense for a firm to buy, because they want two (and they’re almost never a great deal, either). Or maybe you want to dual wield chainsaws?

I suspect some are generated by some automatic software.

For contractor firms it’s more the Ryobi part that’s odd. How many companies are outfitting multiple vans/shops with those low-grade tools? I understand it more for the independent contractor types, or when they’re adding a one-off that’s rarely used. Even the telecom installers around me, chronically under-equipped and overworked, still got better tools than Ryobi.

Yeah, I’ve seen Ryobi used in a “the main saw just took a dump and I want this finished tonight, go buy the cheapest” but not in a “im going to outfit them all” style. I think it’s computer generated by some inscrutable rule set.

I think you’re right about them being software generated.
One thing I’ve noticed is whenever the “buy one tool get another tool free” deals come up from Milwaukee or Dewalt from time to time you see very different implementations between different sellers. Most sites like CPO or Acme Tool let you pick your free tool from a list when you add the first one to your cart. However Home Depot seems to generate a custom bundle or SKU for every possible combination of freebies, even those that probably don’t make logical sense. I don’t like HD’s method as it can actually be hard to find the exact listing you need thanks to too many SKUs and a terrible site search.

I’ve honestly thought about installing two miter saws side-by-side with a nice fence in a stationary workshop setup. The idea would be the ability to have two different blades available at a moment’s notice without having to stop to change them. I.e. nonferrous blade on one and a fine crosscut on the other. I don’t have a need for that but I could see it paying off for the right person. Though I wouldn’t be picking Ryobis for such a setup and might even prefer two different saws entirely.

When I had my machining business we had multiple vertical bandsaws so we could have different blades set up at the same time and nobody had to waste time swapping blades. Same with bench grinders with different grit wheels or sanders with different grit belts. Instead of wasting time swapping them you just have a few different ones ready to go and walk up to the machine you need.

When you’re working day in day out having extra tools that you don’t have to change or adjust can be invaluable. Like two electronic screwdrivers- one with a Philips and one regular.

Just the other day my three man crew was trimming out a bathroom and we had two miter saws set up so we weren’t waiting in line to use one. With the table saw as well, no one was standing around waiting, we were all moving.

That’s so when the first one breaks after a few hours of use, you only have to run to the truck for the replacement, instead of back to the store.

I did that with circular saws – one with a diamond blade and one with a wood blade as I was constantly changing them. It helped tremendously…

    Stuart,
Will you help me out? I’m looking to buy a new 18volt cordless drill.
I don’t need the absolute best, or latest and greatest, nor do I really need the hammer drill function. (I have a Swiss made corded Bosch that will outlive me)

Can you tell me or direct me to a chart that compares the Milwaukee M18 models. I would like the best chuck I can get.

Is this a decent deal? Good drill model? I’m not in a hurry and may wait until the Father’s Day sales. I don’t need the impact driver but…….

    thank you

For the price I think that’s about the best you can get for the mid-tier Milwaukee kit

The comparison chart needs to be updated with the newest M18 Fuel.

If you don’t need the impact, the drill typically goes on sale for $99 with a battery and charger.

If you can hold off for just 4 weeks, Fathers Day sales might help you stretch your dollar. It’s always uncertain which models we’ll see on sale.

If you’re not set with Milwaukee, the newest Dewalt Atomic drill kits are $99 at some retailers.

I also like the Metabo HPT drill kit, with different configurations on sale at different times.

Speaking of Metabo HPT drills: this kit at Lowe’s, at $99, is a quite good option. I saw it in a local store this morning.

    Stuart,
I may have answered my own question.
When I searched for an answer Google showed a chart on your site posted 12/21/18.

I just now opened it and saw that it was updated(?) in 2021. Is this the latest info?

    Thanks

      M18,

      M18 brushless

      M18 FUEL

This also works for the M12 line.

The good thing is that the batteries are the same for all three levels.

I can say that even theor entry level is still a great tool, top quality. That’s where they started a few years ago, and we both know thry don’t typically release a took that is junk (other than the stick vac.) The Brushless line is a lot better by comparison and will allow a longer run time and slight power upgrade compared to their entry level.

Are there brushless Milwaukee tools that aren’t in the Fuel line-up? No disrespect intended. I just don’t keep up as much as I should.

Yes – with several announced in the past few months.

The compact brushless drill and impact, as well as the brushless hammer drill, have been around for quite a few years already.

The Milwaukee deal extends to the 3/8 drive impact gun too. $279 for the gun, 2 batteries, and charger.
