Every year, there are two kinds of tool deals we can count on – discounts and deals on miter saws and table saws. This year’s no different, as Dewalt’s DWE7480 portable table saw is currently on sale at Black Friday-like prices.
You can currently snag this very popular and highly regarded for $279 from Amazon, or $276 via CPO on Amazon, with both offering free shipping.

Last year, this saw was on sale as part of a special combo that included this saw, a folding stand, and spare blade for $319.
It’s hard to predict what deals we’ll see this year for Black Friday 2019.
It’s likely that the slightly smaller DW745 table saw will be on sale again. There might be another bundle with this DWE7480 saw, maybe another saw + stand combo deal.
But what I can tell you is that the current price of $276 or $279 is very good. Dewalt and retailers aren’t likely to dip lower than this for the DWE7480 saw. If they want to hit a lower price point, it’ll probably be with the DW745 again.
According to online price trackers, this table saw’s lowest price was $329, and the last time it was this price was back in 2013. We did spot a similar after-coupon price since then, and I’ll mention that in a moment. The saw has been regularly priced at $379 (and up, as some retailers have it for $399 right now). The pricing has fluctuated between $329 and $379 in previous years, with online price trackers showing that it has been priced at $379 or more on Amazon since 2017, barring any dollar-off promos.
So with this deal, you save $100 (or more if you go with CPO on Amazon) off the regular price.

As an additional data point, this saw was $354 on Amazon for Black Friday 2017, and eligible for a $25 off $100+ discount for a final price of $329.
So, with this deal you look to be saving $50 off its previous lowest price ever.

We don’t know when this pricing will end, or if there will be more compelling deals. The safest assumption I would make is that this is very likely the best price we’ll see on this particular Dewalt table saw.
If You Want a Dewalt Table Saw + Stand Bundle
Right now, Amazon has the Dewalt DW745S table saw and folding stand bundle for $299. This is not the same saw as above, this saw is a little smaller.
This bundle was the same price last year for Black Friday, and the saw by itself was $269. Right now the DW745 is $279 at Amazon, but at the same price you can get the better saw that we discussed above.
Last year, a bundle with the DWE7480XA saw was $319, while this DW745S saw bundle was also still $299. The DW745 by itself dropped to $249 on Thanksgiving Day.

If you ask me, this is HOT DEAL if you’re looking to buy a new Dewalt portable table saw, or even if you’re not brand-specific and just looking for a “bare” saw that doesn’t come with a stand.
If you’re looking for a lower priced saw, wait a couple of weeks for Black Friday and we’ll likely see a couple of options. If you want a portable table saw with a folding or rolling stand, there will be a couple of options there too.
There might be other deals on bare saws, but right now this is the best deal I’ve seen, and lowest pricing ever on this particular model. This is the saw to choose if you want Dewalt’s upgraded saw that doesn’t come with a stand. Their other models are the DW745 which seems to have taken on entry-price-point positioning, the DWE7491X which comes with a folding stand, and DWE7491RS which comes with a roller stand.

I owned one and didn’t like it. Sold it for cheap. Get a used cabinet saw instead if you are into fine woodworking. For construction I guess its ok.

These are portable table saws. Cabinet saws are stationary workshop equipment, a very different class of table saw.

I’ll jump in here, if you like. There are four main types of table saws made today: cabinet, hybrid, contractor, and portable. There are other smaller categories as well (Shopsmiths, European sliding table saws, etc.).
A cabinet saw is generally going to be 2hp and up and run on 220V electricity. They generally start well north of $1500 for a decent new one. If you really think you want the professional size, power, accuracy, etc. of a cabinet saw for fine woodworking, the sweet spot for value on craigslist or Ebay would probably be between $400 – $1500, although they can easily eclipse $5000. A Delta Unisaw or Grizzly might be toward the value end, while Sawstop or Powermatic would be more luxurious.
As for features, you’ll want riving knife, guard, and if possible, a Biesemeyer-style fence (look it up) with microadjustment. Deluxe features might include extension tables, an attached router table, a power feeder, sliding table surface, and many more.
I’m not sure what you plan to do with it, but for most people a hybrid or contractor saw might be a better value, especially if buying new. A hybrid is generally between a cabinet and contractor, and almost always runs on 120V power. It generally has sturdier innards, larger surface area, better fence, and generally more bells and whistles than a ccontractor saw, without all the heft and expense of a cabinet saw. IMHO a used Shopsmith 510, 520, or Mark 7 is perfect for handy woodworkers who want solid, versatile, USA-made machinery, but they’re quite a polarizing topic among woodworkers.

I’ve never regretted buying my Unisaw – now nearing its 50th anniversary. I also don’t regret swapping its Unifence for a Biesemeyer fence. I bought the Unisaw with their add-on sliding table – a costly addition – that I have mixed emotions about (the concept was good – the implementation left something to be desired). If I were looking today – a Hammer K3 would definitely be in my comparison shopping list – if Felder were having a sale. The current $4290 price for the entry level machine does make it a bit hard to swallow unless you are well heeled and/or have enough work to pay for it

Agreed, it’s a saw for carpentry, not woodworking. I built a number of nice projects with an old Ryobi portable that I bought when I was more or less destitute, but it was frustrating and time consuming to keep it aligned, ensure accurate bevels, etc. This saw is likely much better in that regard than that Ryobi was, but I still wouldn’t count on an invisible glue line from it.
That said, it has place. My go-to saw’s rip capacity is wider than a sheet of plywood is long, but I’d be hard-pressed to drag it to a relative’s house, my kids’ schools, or even my own backyard for a project. Also, lots of people don’t have dedicated space or even time for serious woodworking machines, so being able to store this under a shelf when not working in the garage or driveway is handy. These are all reasons I still hang on to my old Ryobi.
Anyway, I’d call this DeWalt a decent deal. It’s about $50 cheaper than the previous low on Amazon, and it’ll serve as a capable, compact, portable, and somewhat versatile machine for most people who don’t have time or space for a cabinet saw.

If cutting sheet goods is what you need, a cheap brand track saw or even a circular saw with home made track will be a much better choice than this saw IMO. Doesn’t have to be Festool. There are cheaper choices now. Not only your cut capacity is unlimited, your cut quality will also be better, and it’s a lot safer with the blade away from you.
I think the main feature of a table saw is the table and the fence. The tabletop needs to be flat, with good straight miter slots. Jigs can then be added to the saw and it becomes a truly amazing tool, otherwise a table saw is just an upside-down circular saw. The fence of this saw is okay, a bit too short but I like the rack-and-pinion design. However the miter slots are garbage. The slots are not machined, which means their widths are not uniform along the length. The side wall of the slot are not even plum. I checked many dewalt table saws in Lowe’s and they are all the same.

I’ve seen a lot of people using portable table saws on floors, truck beds, and workbenches, with DIYers and woodworkers on a budget building support tables around it. You can also buy your choice of near-universal table saw stand separately.

Yep. I would use this saw as a poor-man’s cabinet saw (since I am a poor man.) So I don’t need real portability, so I would build a stand for it, with locking rollers and storage underneath. If I were super-clever, I might design the stand to do double duty as a stool or low work table.

DWE7480 Speed: 4800 RPM
DW745 Rip Capacity: 20″ (right of blade)
DWE7480 Rip Capacity: 24″ (right of blade)

You can rip 24″ on the 745. You just have to remove the fence from it’s stop pins and place it further out, then measure from the blade with a tape. Takes an extra few seconds and outside of this deal, saves you about$100.

So, this was rather good timing. I’ve been looking for a table saw for my retirement home I’m refurbing on weekends. It’s 260 miles from home, so it’s a real pain bringing tools back and forth, especially if I want to take the Jeep that gets 21mpg instead of my truck that gets more like 12mpg. I’ve been looking at facebook marketplace and craigslist, but most seem to be either made of gold, or made of rust.
BTW, the DWE7480 is priced at $299 at Home Depot right now. I had a $20 gift card that was about to expire, so I ended up paying the same price as Amazon, and I didn’t have to worry about it getting damaged in transit or sitting on the porch up here in the rain/snow for a week or 2 until I get back up. No sales tax, since the retirement home is in a state with no sales tax (or income tax).
The stand would have been nice, but wasn’t an option on the Dewalt at the local HD. The only ones they had with stands were the Ryobi and the Rigid.

Picked up the 7480 a few weeks ago when Home Depot had a deal of the day with the 7480 and stand (the model with wheels not the scissor style stand) for $350. I’ve been happy with it so far and immediately put it to use on an attic renovation for work. It’s by no means a cabinet saw but what sold me on the Dewalt’s was the fence adjusting system. Seems way better than most of the job site saws at the same price point. We’ll see how it holds up over the coming year.

In November 2018 I had thought that the $299 Black Friday deal for the DW745 and the stand was pretty good deal but couldn’t justify the expense at the time. Then on February of this year one of my local Home Depots seemed to find a left over Black Friday bundle and put it in clearance for $179. I obvioulsy bought it.
I didn’t even go to get a shopping cart so as to not risk someone else taking it. I pulled one of those super-strenght-in-moments-of-crisis events and carried it to the register. That was an awkwardly large box to carry but it was worth it.

I had the original, smaller, wormdrive skilsaw TS.
Sold it and got a DeWalt.
Had good power, good depth of cut. However, it was sloppy by comparison in nearly every way. The runout at the arbor was embarrassing. Straight cuts were rare, the fence needed constant babysitting. The blade would drop slowly over time by itself.
Hard pass for anything that resembles finish work.

Thanks for the info Stuart. I did know but many people have no clue about that. I believe they both ship most products from the same warehouse. I noticed their $229 price went on at the exact same time yesterday and they shut it down today at the exact same time and are now back at $299. The sites are obviously controlled by the same IT and Marketing departments.
