Yesterday, I posted about two new Stanley technician-style tool cases that are soon coming out. This brought to mind a Husky technician-style tool case I discovered about a year ago but neglected to post about.
The Husky tool case, which is a relabeled Keter 17198036 technician case, features plastic dividers, a pallet-style organizer, and a removable small parts bin. Its latches are metal, as are the loops that can accommodate an optional shoulder carrying strap.

Like the Keter-made Ridgid Pro tool boxes I reviewed the other day, the Husky technician case has a lid stopper that helps prevent tip-over when the case is opened.
Overall, the Husky technician tool box is a decent-looking case for anyone looking to organize a couple of hand tools and supplies. The lid-mounted pallet-style organizer cannot hold many tools, but it allows for quick access of your most-used ones. The rest can go into the dividable sections of the main compartment.
Keep in mind, though, that this is a $35 tool box. Don’t expect to compare it to a professional tool attaché or similar technician-style tool box, and you might allow yourself to like it. I saw one in-store at a local Home Depot, and it seemed to be a nice divergence from typical single-compartment tool boxes.
The internal parts felt a little lightweight to me, and closer in feel to those of a blow-molded case vs. heavier duty injection-molded one, but that could just be me being a little tool box snobby.
This is really the type of tool box you should check out in person. Or, order it online for shipping or in-store pickup and keep your receipt at the ready in case you’re dissatisfied with the quality or storage versatility.

Yep, I picked up one of these at a Lowe’s maybe a year ago, and it’s now my go-to box for all my small jobs. I ditched almost all of the inserts though.

I bought this case when it came out, and then I took it back 2 days later. When I first saw it in the store, what I didn’t realize, like you pointed out, the tool pallet is very small. Not only is it small it’s small in two ways. You can’t get a lot of tools in it, and the tools you can get into it are not full size. If you look at the picture, the tools are micro/mini pliers, micro screwdrivers, etc. In my excitement of finding a reasonably priced black case with a tool pallet and shoulder strap attachments I overlooked that small detail. And obviously a tool case that can’t carry the tools you want is pretty pointless, so back it went.

I had one for two years and it has made excellent storage for my cordless drill and charger, battery’s. Plus the storage dividers and the removable storage is perfect for bits and nut drivers, and apex tips, I just love it

Yup. The model number is the same, and the picture of the closed case with red insert came from Keter’s site.
I have a bunch of other Keter-made Husky tool boxes, and have generally been quite pleased with them.

I like Keter products and own a few, some even have MIU. I have considered this case in the past with the full intention of hacking up the lid tray to better suit my needs, but ended up seasoning a used misicians road case to taste. Still a decent option for the right application I guess, as long as one matches expectations with price.

I picked one up a few months back to keep my Fieldpiece SMAN3 digital a/c gauges in along with the hoses, adapters and other goodies and tools I use for a/c work. The gauge set is pretty big, and it fits perfectly if I remove all the dividers except for those under the compartmented box to the left. That fitted box is something that drew me to this case, and it’s where I keep small parts, o-rings and whatnot. Adapters fit nicely underneath the compartmented box. I don’t use the tool holders in the lid for the most part, aside for a schrader valve tool and two thermometers. I made custom labels for the outside of the case, and it looks like a custom box just for that purpose. I wouldn’t consider this for use as a general purpose technician case, as the tool storage in the lid is pretty dismal. It’s perfect as a customizable case for more specific tools for a particular purpose, or as a rugged parts storage case for on the road.
